Very nice fare; quite authentic Greek and middle eastern. Lunch sized portions at lunch, including on weekend. Limited number of tables so definitely requires a reservation on the weekend. Friendly wait staff.

I do believe, as far as the food itself is concerned, that there is no better restaurant in Philadelphia. The flavors are fresh, powerful, elegant, and creative, all without all of the upcharge for pomp and fluff that you get at other top restaurants. Truly a gem.

This place had great, flavorful food at reasonable prices and portions. The menu really celebrated Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, with offerings ranging from shakshouka to grilled octopus. Great for a satisfying BYOB brunch, or a casual dinner with a small group of friends.

The food is fabulous, the atmosphere festive. A great place to take out-of -town visitors who are always wowed by it. The stuffed pepper dish is my absolute favorite. I hope they never change it! The lobster salad special was, divine. The place is noisy, but everyone is having such a good time and fantastic meal that it just contributes to the fun. The desserts were disappointing, but the meal so filling one could do without.

Every single aspect of kanella, makes me super excited for the next opportunity to eat here. Service was absolutely outstanding, and the food was mind-blowing. Dips of the day - an absolute must hummus - you'll never be able to look at Sabra jars the same way. Chef Konstantinos has hand crafted a perfectly blended hummus. Grilled flatbread - fresh, light, delicious Manti- beautifully spiced lamb dumplings Monkfish osso buco - tasted like the sea in the best way possible. Super fresh, tender, the monkfish melted in my mouth, and the chickpeas followed. Superb Stuffed red pepper - absolutely perfect And finally couldn't ask for a better way to end the night with the galaktoboureko. Order it, perfect blend of sweet creamy heaven. I don't have an issue calling this the best restaurant in Philly. The only thing I worry about is not being able to find a reservation with how insanely popular it is.

We had read reviews that Kanella was a small restaurant, but it was a lot smaller than I had anticipated. Everyone seemed to be very friendly, and the service was excellent. We started with the Kanella Platter and everything involved was very fresh and delicious. I would reccommend this as a light but very tasty starter. For a main course i had the poultry special. Could not exactly remember the exact details because it was explained by the waiter, but was served as a whole chicken with some kind of pilaf. It had great flavor but I would say lacked a wow factor. My boyfriend got the poached monkfish with spinach and chickpeas. This was a fantastic dish, and i would tend to lean on ordering fish next time we visit. The dessert we tried was a pistaccio pie was homemade hazelnut ice cream with a slice of fresh pear. I am not a dessert person but you must get something at Kanella where all the desserts look great and ours was excellent. I'd like to check out the brunch.

first of all, our waiter went above and beyond. the menu and the specials were tempting and it was a hard decision what to get... i got monkfish and my boo got rabbit. soooo good. i could eat the briney jus my fish was in alone. I also must note i asked for a side of olives and they were the most pungeant and succelent lil olives i've ever had. paired well with my syrah. one thing is it's teensy in there and v loud. idgaf tho. it still seems romantic.

I have had dinner at the finest Greek restaurants in New York and Philadelphia. I rate Kanella's food as good as there is compared to the best. The cooking is high level and I appreciated the chef's twists on classics and incorporation of Cypriot cooking. It has been a long time since I have enjoyed a meal so much. I look forward to returning.

I've heard about Kanella's brunch for the last two years and for some reason it never made it to the top of the list. Greek for breakfast? Ya, in concept I get it and even like it, but eh. Then we went and it was mind blowing. Simple buy elegant and fabulous. Go. Just go.

My husband and I went to Kanella for a second time and thought it was good, but not as great as our first time (maybe set expectations a little high?). We shared a bunch of starters instead of getting any main courses so we could try more things. This was a good idea in theory but we ordered too many items with bread (totally our own fault) and were stuffed by the end. We got the dips of the day (which were kind of bland and a little disappointing), the feta and beet tart (awesome), flat bread (good but we were so full) and the manti- lamb dumplings (my favorite). Our server was polite and knowledgeable. We also got to speak with the owner who was floating around and got some interesting info on the restaurant, the background and so on. Kanella is a great date-night experience, super cozy and really makes you forget you are in the middle of Philadelphia. Perfect mid-week escape for dinner. I would vote it the best BYO in the city!

We can't say enough good things about the food/service at Kanella's. A must everytime we dine here; for apts- Greek salad, octopus, fried cheese and our new find the lamb dumplings. They were so good we had a second order!!! Also a must is the Bronzino. Delicious! Our waiter was one of the best. He looks like Spider-Man, Toby McGuire. And to top it off it's a byob! Can't wait to go back.

I went with a small group and ordered a number of starters to share. Their vegetables on the Kanella platter were heavily marinated with vinegar. All of their food has nice strong flavors. I was a fan of their grilled octopus starter. The servers are very attentive. Great spot.

This was my first time at Kanella. I went with my sister and cousin for a girls night out and we had a great time. We split the octopus, manti, and the Kanella platter for appetizers. They were all excellent, my favorite being the manti which are basically lamb dumplings served over a chili oil/ yogurt sauce. They were my favorite bite of the night and might be one of the best things I've ever eaten. For mains I got the beef cheek which was delicious, I highly recommend it. My fellow diners got the rabbit and goat, all were highly received.

Kanella is definitely one of the best restaurants in the city. We love eating there. While it is not inexpensive enough to eat there all the time, every time we go, we leave totally satisfied and thrilled with the food. The warm hummus with mushrooms is probably the best in the city, the grilled octopus appetizer is perfect (I often get a double order of that as a main dish!) and all the main dishes we have tried have always been amazing, specially the fresh fish entrees. We would highly recommend Kanella.

Another nice brunch at Kanella. The shakshouka is highly satisfying (tomato and pepper stew, poached eggs, lamb merguez). The kitchen neglected to sprinkle pomegranate seeds on our two Armenian lamb flatbreads but obliged when we requested them. The dish really needs the pomegranate to cut through the earthiness of the meat and pine nuts. The shrimp saganaki was copious and satisfying.

BYOB, so the check is always reasonable...especially given the quality fare. You definitely feel like you're away...in Cypress, natch!

If you want some of the best Greek food in the city (and perhaps a taste of the Greek Islands to go with it), look no further than the small BYOB Kanella. Owned by a chef from Cyprus, everything I've tried is excellent. I tried the squid which was amazing and to drink, get some soumada. It is an almond based milk drink that is served hot or cold. Book a reservation in advance. The place is small and the tables fill up fast. And that's because it's such a great dining experience.

This was my first trip to Kanella for dinner; before this I had only ever gone for brunch and a cooking class. I wish I hadn't waited so long! The food was absolutely incredible and the service was excellent. Even though we shared a bunch of appetizers and an entree, we still had some room for dessert and I'm glad we did - the custard that comes with the dessert platter is seriously a taste sensation. Not kidding - you have to try it. I had the beef cheeks and they were delicious, my husband had the rabbit and that was great also. Start to finish one of the best meals I've had in a long time! Thanks Kanella!

I am so happy I finally made my way here. We started with the Kanella platter which had grape leaves, fresh feta, tomato salad, hummus, olives and pita . This was so delicious. The feta was fresh, tangy, creamy and flat out delicious. The falafel was one of the best, flavorful and authentic ones I've had before. We ate that plate clean! My entrée of stuffed pepper was delicious, loved the pine nuts and lentils inside. My partner's fresh fish of the day in a caper sauce was executed nicely as well. Loved our server, he was perfectly attentive and our wine glasses were never empty! I'll definitely be back

My third time here over a few years, left me thinking I should go more often. All dish very good, with more than adequate portions unlike most foody places these days. Several seafood choices. Best Avgolimono soup ever (a special). Waiters very friendly as well as sightly ( a rare combination), with good advice when asked. Kitchen not speedy so add 15 minutes to your projected time when reserving. But well worth it.
