I think of restaurants that use Open Table as being 'fancier'.... not so with Kaname. We were surprised the first time we came that I was a bit of a hole-in-the-wall.... in the best way possible.
If you want a Japanese joint that offers a nice variety of both sushi and non-sushi (GyoDon! Kara-age!) at ridiculously reasonable prices, with a terribly sweet staff, this is your place.
I hesitate to write this, because it feels like 'my' secret....

Unfortunately, we never got to dine at this restaurant. Upon arrival, nobody greeted us to check us in, and the staff was so busy that people who were already seated in the restaurant started leaving because they weren't getting any service. We then tried to cancel our reservation on Open Table but were unable to do so on the app, so we tried to call the restaurant to cancel by phone, and nobody ever picked up the phone.
Although I put on the Open Table reservations that I was gluten free, I was served a wheat noodle dish. My chicken karagge order was not served. Instead I received chicken teriyaki. When I pointed out the error to the server, he brought a separate order of chickens karagge. Finally, our Miso soups were served after we finished eating. Very disappointing! Have eaten here several times before with good food without errors. Was someone on vacation? Thanks!
My son and I were visiting Seattle and sushi is his favorite. We enjoyed our casual dinner and really good food.

It was good foods but this time we went for HH and dinner has been small and very oily.
The first time I dined here it was good and the service was quick. This time however, not so much. Our server was overwhelmed and many items did not make it to our table. I had Saba Shioyaki appetizer which was nice but the hamachi sushi was stringy and made me gag. I did not eat it. A couple people ordered Tori No Karaage (deep-fried chicken marinated with soy ginger sauce). One person got her order, the other did not. The gal who got her chicken found it bland and the dipping sauce didn't add much flavor. By the time the second person got her chicken, were were all done eating. My companions were OK with the food they did get but as I mentioned many things were forgotten entirely or brought out late. Overall, we were underwhelmed.
Great pick for low key yet yummy, last minute Friday night dinner. My husband and I ordered a variety of sushi rolls and small plates from happy hour hour and regular menus. My only nitpick is too much sauce doused our rolls. Next time I'll know to ask for it on the side.
Nothing to write home about on ambience/decoration but who cares when the food tastes good and the service is superb!
We joined a group of six for drinks and food before a show. Kaname Izakaya is a bar with Japanese bar food. In that, it is fantastic.
We split a dozen small plates, each was unique and very tasty. The octopus dumplings were gold and crunchy outside, and surprisingly soft inside. Gyoza was well done. The whole arrow fish was beautiful and tasty. Note: there are very few vegetarian options.
The selection of sochu is broader than offered just about anywhere else, so tasting is kind of blind reaching. But no complaints.
In all, this is a great bar with unique food. But don't confuse it with some mood lit sushi tasting place.
My friend and I had dinners at Kaname so many times in the past. I don't think we ever had a any disappointment eating there. The food is always very good, I love their tempura and nimono. Very authentic. They serve a very fresh seafood as well. We've had a very pleasant and efficient server. We certainly will go back again.
Been coming here for years. Udon soup itself is rather salty. Quality of the raw fish could be better.
There was a great variety of choices. Reasonably priced. Fresh fish and nicely displayed on the plates.

If your idea of a great dinner is ordering a bunch of "ippinmono" from a Japanese menu and sharing with your friends/family - look no further. Todd, the owner, does a phenomenal job of maintaining an authentic Izakaya feel while taking advantage of Seattle ingredients. Oh, and if you like some imo jochu - they've got a great selection for a little taste away from home. Lastly, the value is great, too :)
