Kamehachi of Tokyo - Wells Street
Was super quick service and delicious food!
Kamahachi is a local favorite for Japanese food. It has an extensive menu, the food is always fresh, and the service is impeccable. It is a nicely appointed space, suitable for quiet conversation. I have been there many times over the years, and the quality and experience has been consistently excellent. It is also affordable.
Food was good!! Service was good! I would definitely go back!
We started off with the Gyoza, then we had the Kamasu Ichiyaboshi and Kanpachi. For entrees Laura had the Kamehachi salad, and I had the Yaki Udon. All were excellent, and served in a timely manner.
The last time we went we had the omakase, or at least their version of it and the sushi wasn’t bad! This time we had the normal menu items and the hamachi carpaccio was tough and cut too thick, the Rock shrimp was not crisp and the shrimp was tiny, and the Spicy Tuna Deluxe Deluxe was like eating a roll made out of baby food! I’m just hoping Monday night is just not the night to go to Kamehachi on Wells! You can do better!
Beautiful restaurant, very good service. Food was good, but nothing out of the ordinary.
A last minute decision for sushi and this place was incredible. It was an open layout yet felt intimate and cozy. I went on a Sunday afternoon and it was great. The sushi was fresh and the service was outstanding. I can’t wait to return!
The price is good but maybe is holiday the quality of the food is just average. Fried oyster three pieces costed $10 but two of them size like a quarter.
One waitresses. Hope is better after the holiday.
Must have been fish leftover from the weekend as our sushi was terrible. We could smell it the minute they put it on the table. Not a good experience at all.
Good food good wine nice environment
Great service and ambiance
I hadn’t been here since they moved from the old location. Interior is modern and attractive. Server was pleasant and attentive. Edamame was excellent. Spicy deluxe tuna roll was delicious as was the special roll. Hamachi sashimi was artfully presented and tender.
Great food and atmosphere. Will add this to the list of favorite sushi spots!
We have limited access to sushi where we live so every time we're in Chicago in the Old Town area we eat at Kamehachi. It's a lovely setting with quality food. Try it the next time you're in Chicago - even if you're not in Old Town it's easy to get to.
Place is outstanding. Food decor and service were all spot on. Get the salmon! Can’t wait to return.
Good selection of different dishes. I had salmon with ponzu sauce but the sauce was a bit heavy, as I expected much lighter one. Agedashi tofu was yummy.
Fresh sushi and sashimi great service
Everything I remember it being. Food was delicious as usual and service was spot on.
I’ve eaten at Kamahachi before and have to say this round of Nigiri and the final hand roll was the best I’ve had there.
Very fresh and well presented.
Loved sitting outside on a beautiful day. The churashi was incredibly fresh and the rice very tasty. A little pricey for lunch but so good. I don’t want discounted raw fish so I really shouldn’t complain!
Really wanted to like this place because of its location and convenience to my boyfriend’s new apartment. The location and ambience are basically the only things we enjoyed (which is saying a lot because my boyfriend and I are not very picky). The night started with a hectic hostess who seemed very frazzled. The restaurant was NOT packed nor were there any large parties- they seemed very disorganized. She took us to our table and my plate was dirty so we asked our waitress for a new one (which she never brought). We ordered shortly after sitting down and the chicken teriyaki came out quickly- within 15 minutes. Then we waited for our sushi- we ordered 3 simple rolls. It took OVER AN HOUR to get 3 mediocre sushi rolls. Not once during our wait did our waitress check up on us - we had to flag her down to get an update on when the sushi
would be ready to which she responded “yeah everyone’s asking about that”. Finally, about an hour and 15 minutes later, we get our sushi and one of the rolls had a HAIR on it. I didn’t enjoy either of my rolls which was very disappointing. Overall, I would not recommend this place- we are very disappointed and won’t be coming back.
Second time here. First time it was packed and we had great service and food was very good. Second time it was good until the 2nd half of our dinner, where we realized on 3 different occasions our waiter either forgot to submit a selection or picked up a selection late and presented it at room temp. We went there Sunday 9/1 and it was not overly busy. We were very disappointed.
Amazing!!! Best sushi I have eaten. Very gracious and welcoming. Will definitely return.
The service was incredibly poor, it might as well be a self service restaurant. It took the waiter 10 minutes to come to the table and after we ordered it took another 40 minutes for the food to be delivered and the waiter was nonexistent for the rest of the dinner. This used to be a good place at a premium price. Now, it ranks among the worst sushi places in get city. Stay away would be my recommendation.
Always a great meal. Top notch service. A favorite place to dine.
Service and food very good— nice menu
Service is slipping. Too noisy with the comedy show upstairs.
Celebrating graduations and enjoyed exceptional sushi. Appetizers of miso soup and shrimp dumplings were also good.
This is one of the best Japanese restaurants in Chicago, and we go there every month or so. Extensive selections and the chefs are flexible about preparations. It is quiet, informal, so is a good place to meet friends for a quiet dinner. The service is consistently good. Prices are about average for sushi and other dishes.
My husband and I brought a friend to get our Sushi fix. Everything was wonderful. Shockingly, we found out our friend had not been to the restaurant since they moved from the corner of Schiller and Wells Streets. Made for all of us to get meet here again, soon.
Great will go there often.
Excellent food. Service is a bit slow. The restaurant is too loud.
My first experience at Kamehaci was an overall great experience. The sushi was fresh, server was personable, and atmosphere was enjoyable. However, when I went for the second time, my experience was much different and changed my opinion on the restaurant. The sushi was one of the worst I’ve had- very dry and not fresh. We informed the waiter of this and he did nothing about it and said “that’s the way it’s supposed to taste”. The waiter was overall not welcoming and his service was not great. Not sure if I will ever go back.
The food & drinks were great and our waiter was outstanding.
This is one of the best Japanese restaurants in Chicago. The prices are reasonable, and there is an extensive menu and drinks list. The room is quiet and pleasant, and the waitstaff are good without being intrusive. I have been going there for years, and consider it a highlight of Lincoln Park/Old Town.
Great sushi! Chicken teriyaki sauce not great and a little dry. Staff friendly and fast!
The gentleman at the hostess stand (I believe the manager) was great. I’ve been there plenty of times and his personal touches are always recognized.
Spicy tuna deluxe and spicy salmon deluxe both with black rice were delicious!
Kamehachi is consistent when it comes to food but not service. We were seated promptly at our reservation time . The members of our party were very satisfied with their dinner choices . Definitely go there.
It was a great meal!! We loved the service, our waiter Yord was fantastic!
