Kamehachi of Tokyo - Wells Street
Fresh sushi and sashimi great service
Everything I remember it being. Food was delicious as usual and service was spot on.
I’ve eaten at Kamahachi before and have to say this round of Nigiri and the final hand roll was the best I’ve had there.
Very fresh and well presented.
Loved sitting outside on a beautiful day. The churashi was incredibly fresh and the rice very tasty. A little pricey for lunch but so good. I don’t want discounted raw fish so I really shouldn’t complain!
Really wanted to like this place because of its location and convenience to my boyfriend’s new apartment. The location and ambience are basically the only things we enjoyed (which is saying a lot because my boyfriend and I are not very picky). The night started with a hectic hostess who seemed very frazzled. The restaurant was NOT packed nor were there any large parties- they seemed very disorganized. She took us to our table and my plate was dirty so we asked our waitress for a new one (which she never brought). We ordered shortly after sitting down and the chicken teriyaki came out quickly- within 15 minutes. Then we waited for our sushi- we ordered 3 simple rolls. It took OVER AN HOUR to get 3 mediocre sushi rolls. Not once during our wait did our waitress check up on us - we had to flag her down to get an update on when the sushi
would be ready to which she responded “yeah everyone’s asking about that”. Finally, about an hour and 15 minutes later, we get our sushi and one of the rolls had a HAIR on it. I didn’t enjoy either of my rolls which was very disappointing. Overall, I would not recommend this place- we are very disappointed and won’t be coming back.
Second time here. First time it was packed and we had great service and food was very good. Second time it was good until the 2nd half of our dinner, where we realized on 3 different occasions our waiter either forgot to submit a selection or picked up a selection late and presented it at room temp. We went there Sunday 9/1 and it was not overly busy. We were very disappointed.
Amazing!!! Best sushi I have eaten. Very gracious and welcoming. Will definitely return.
The service was incredibly poor, it might as well be a self service restaurant. It took the waiter 10 minutes to come to the table and after we ordered it took another 40 minutes for the food to be delivered and the waiter was nonexistent for the rest of the dinner. This used to be a good place at a premium price. Now, it ranks among the worst sushi places in get city. Stay away would be my recommendation.
Always a great meal. Top notch service. A favorite place to dine.
Service and food very good— nice menu
Service is slipping. Too noisy with the comedy show upstairs.
Celebrating graduations and enjoyed exceptional sushi. Appetizers of miso soup and shrimp dumplings were also good.
This is one of the best Japanese restaurants in Chicago, and we go there every month or so. Extensive selections and the chefs are flexible about preparations. It is quiet, informal, so is a good place to meet friends for a quiet dinner. The service is consistently good. Prices are about average for sushi and other dishes.
My husband and I brought a friend to get our Sushi fix. Everything was wonderful. Shockingly, we found out our friend had not been to the restaurant since they moved from the corner of Schiller and Wells Streets. Made for all of us to get meet here again, soon.
Great will go there often.
Excellent food. Service is a bit slow. The restaurant is too loud.
My first experience at Kamehaci was an overall great experience. The sushi was fresh, server was personable, and atmosphere was enjoyable. However, when I went for the second time, my experience was much different and changed my opinion on the restaurant. The sushi was one of the worst I’ve had- very dry and not fresh. We informed the waiter of this and he did nothing about it and said “that’s the way it’s supposed to taste”. The waiter was overall not welcoming and his service was not great. Not sure if I will ever go back.
The food & drinks were great and our waiter was outstanding.
This is one of the best Japanese restaurants in Chicago. The prices are reasonable, and there is an extensive menu and drinks list. The room is quiet and pleasant, and the waitstaff are good without being intrusive. I have been going there for years, and consider it a highlight of Lincoln Park/Old Town.
Great sushi! Chicken teriyaki sauce not great and a little dry. Staff friendly and fast!
The gentleman at the hostess stand (I believe the manager) was great. I’ve been there plenty of times and his personal touches are always recognized.
Spicy tuna deluxe and spicy salmon deluxe both with black rice were delicious!
Kamehachi is consistent when it comes to food but not service. We were seated promptly at our reservation time . The members of our party were very satisfied with their dinner choices . Definitely go there.
It was a great meal!! We loved the service, our waiter Yord was fantastic!
Nice staff but very slow service. Large saki selection. Sushi was good.
We love this place. We come at least once a month, and always have great food and service. The owner is always around, so that's always a great thing.
The food and ambience were very good. Unfortunately the service staff was strangely sexist and very slow. We got a bottle of wine and my boyfriend was only given a sample. The waiter only asked him the questions and it felt weirdly outdated.
My mom got sick, the chicken wasn’t cooked all the way
We made a last minute reservation and they were happy to accomodate us. The food was great, but the service...not so much. Being so close to Second City and Zanies you'd think they would know how to get people in and out in time for a show, but instead we had to wait an insufferable amount of time to order our food, which I will admit did come rather quickly. But instead of taking our order, we and the table next to us got to watch the waitress chat it up with regulars and no other servers seemed one bit interested in helping, nor did the manager | host.
Always consistent and delicious. My favorite sushi in Chicago!
Service was very slow. We ordered very soon after sitting down and it took an hour and fifteen minutes to get our food. Other tables around us were being served that sat down after us and we didn’t order anything extravagant. Disappointed
I thought the price was way too high for the portion size and quality
We ordered shishito peppers to start, which I have had many times and is not a spicy dish. I can handle some heat. None of the peppers were spicy except for one which burned so badly that I had to leave. It wasn't a normal burn from spicy food, but more like a scalding chemical burn that lasted long after the spiciness wore off.
Because I could not eat anything warm after that, I cancelled my order of noodle soup and attempted to order sushi instead. The manager came out and was rude, showed no concern for my discomfort, said they would not cancel the order because they already started making the soup and that I could take it to go. I explained that I could not eat it and she snapped "so it'll just go to waste then" and stomped off. I got up and left the restaurant. I've never seen anything like it.
We had a delicious shared meal, bypassing traditional sashimi/sushi and concentrating on hot appetizers. The chilled seaweed salad, then hot eggplant with a teriyaki-style glaze, seared scallops, and crab cakes were all wonderful. There was a very busy art festival happening just outside, so being inside with great service, was welcome. Will definitely return on another trip to Chicago.
Our waitress was attentive and personable. We shared several different plates which were delicious. We also shared the mb chops which were fantastic. I had one of the specialty drinks and it was great,
The quality and presentation of the sushi and sashimi is exceptional. Service is very good despite the restaurant being very busy. We were seated upon arrival so reservation times are taken seriously. No valet parking but there is parking across the street with validation.
I’ve always loved Kamehachi, but hadn’t been in about a year. I chose it because we had tickets to Second City and I knew it was just a block or so away.
We had a fabulous server, and liked everything he recommended: the eggplant appetizer, the Summer and White Heat rolls were all fantastic. Really good experience all around. (And you don’t smell fish when you walk in, which is always a good sign!)
They were filming a show upstairs unbelievable noise!!
Kamehachi never disappoints. Always great❤️
