Kamehachi of Tokyo - Northbrook Ratings and Reviews
We used to like it here; it was close and used to be good. After tonight we will never go back. Food was horrible, service was horrible, if they were not out of every complimentary sauce i would be surprised because everything i asked for on the side...they were out of.
Kamehachi is a warm and cozy restaurant that has the advantage of being conversation-friendly. The food is very fresh and well prepared, just as we ordered. There are many good options for people who don't eat raw fish and sushi. We really enjoyed our meal.
We went there for my son’s birthday. We made a reservation in advance but we had to wait literally 50 minutes before a server came to our table! Only after I told the hostess that we wanted to speak to the manager. Manager then came and we told him how long we had been waiting (we would have left if our kids were not dying from hunger. We had three kids with us ages 4, 11 and 13). He said someone would be with us shortly and also said “let me see if I can get you free appetizers”. After that, it took another forever for the appetizers to come and then the main courses. Food was mediocre. When the check came, we realized that we’re charged for the appetizers unlike what the manager said (who by the way looked 18 years old, very inexperienced looking young man...) We didn’t want to talk to them again, we paid the bill vowing that we would never return there anyway.
One of the worst experiences we have ever had at a restaurant and it was most unfortunate that it was my son’s 13th birthday.
The food here is always good. I started going to Kamehachi when they were in Chicago (from what I understand they were the first Sushi place in the city). It has gotten very pricey but still very good. We were concerned about our orders (we ordered A LOT!) as our server appeared to not understand us most of the time. Nor could she speak English very well, if at all. To our pleasant surprise absolutely everything come out perfectly. We tipped her accordingly. So, go if you like good sushi and don't mind paying top dollar.
The food was good and the waitress did her best considering the circumstance that the chefs were far behind on orders and so it took forever to get our food. Bad timing when we needed a quick small meal and needed to be on our way. They offered an appetizer of edamame but we don't eat that so that didn't help. I would usually overlook the situation and be understanding because it was a Saturday night, but the place was not even 1/4 full with many open tables. Perhaps they were overloaded with delivery or carryout? Perhaps they were short of chefs? Not sure but it was a disappointment.
Thank heavens the noise level was good for talking. The food was excellent and the quantities were large prices not so large. It's seem to authentic which I think was indicated by the fact that there were many Asian people eating in this restaurant which was Asian's cuisine
I think the rice was old. I've had better sushi from the grocery store. The rolls were small, and the prices were average, but I'd expect larger rolls. Do yourself a favor and don't go there. The restaurant was almost completely empty, which should have been a sign to begin with.
It was a little slow on getting our food out. But our server let us know what was going on that the kitchen was a little backed up. Over all it was all good. We frequent this place because I love sushi and I always enjoyed dinning here even though my husband does not like sushi. He always gets the beef asparagus roll and he is happy.
I've eaten at Kamehachi several times and the food was predictably very good. I ordered one of their special Mojitos, however, and was disappointed - good taste, but so small and very little alcohol in it. All ice. The children's Chicken Teryaki was generous and more than worth the $7. My Tempura was delicious, as were the Beef and Asparagus Rolls. The server took our order in a reasonable amount of time, but the delivery was very delayed, both drink and food. The restaurant was not crowded at the time. So it was a mixed bag. I will go back. I will recommend it. Just not if you're in a hurry!
