I relatively new discovery for us and we are delighted to have such a wonderful restaurant so close to us! Besides creative and delicious offerings, everyone who works there seems to enjoy it and is gracious and attentive!
Valentine’s Day and understaffed. Terrible service. Waited thirty minutes for waitress and another twenty for a drink. Will not go back.
We love Kamehachi. However, we had poor service. Drinks came at different times for us. The food all came together, Miso, Salad, Sushi. Not right. However, the Sushi was exquisite. We'll be back, just avoiding the one waitress.
The spicy shrimp appetizer was delicious. Fried but so good. I think it’s the best thing I’ve had there. The udon was also good.
The sea bass was not great. I would try something else next time. Had the sushi on last visits and it’s just ok. Udon and shrimp on in my list now though!!
We go here because we can get a table, it’s good atmosphere and decent service, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it.
Kamehachi is a classic Chicago sushi house, but the facility is old and in need of renovation. The food is quite pricey for the portion size. Overall, I would choose a different place next time.......
Arrived promptly at 6:30 PM was set in the booth. Took quite some time for a waitress to come over to take her order. Ordered the top and sake and split a bottle of beer. When the soccer game it was the wrong type and the waitress was slow to correct. At that point in time we ordered sashimi. We are particular about our sashimi and you only like certain types. The waitress took our order telling us what they had and what she recommended. About 25 minutes later she came back to tell us that one of the fish that we had ordered they no longer had in stock. While you’re not aware of what you have in stock when it comes to high end sushi IDK . When our order finally did come it was totally incorrect. Took forever for them to figure out why and when we told him we were no longer interested in having our meal there they simply gave us our check with no apology and no discount and send us on our way. As a resident of Northbrook I would never recommend nor would I ever go back to this location. It seems of it as if management simply doesn’t care and staff is aimlessly roaming around socializing and certainly not taking care of the guests.
Great neighborhood Japanese restaurant! Tried new specials - tuna tower and Japanese friend rice - in addition to dragon roll. Another good meal at Kamehachi.
We had a wonderful dinner at Kamahachi. It was a group of 7 mommies - out for a friend's bday. It was the perfect evening. The food was delicious and super fresh. Every roll was tried was fantastic. The service was exceptional. They never rushed us or made us feel like we were a bother. They didn't even rush us as we closed down the restaurant. It was the perfect evening at such a great neighborhood restaurant.
Lovely place . Kind of store front but good service and food excellent..
Great food. A lot of options to select from. Food was good and fresh. Service good also.
We used to like it here; it was close and used to be good. After tonight we will never go back. Food was horrible, service was horrible, if they were not out of every complimentary sauce i would be surprised because everything i asked for on the side...they were out of.
Always one of our favorites. Consistently excellent!
Excellent service / great vib / awesome food
Highly recommend this restaurant
a classic Japanese place in the burbs. Always good and consistent food and service.
Kamehachi is a warm and cozy restaurant that has the advantage of being conversation-friendly. The food is very fresh and well prepared, just as we ordered. There are many good options for people who don't eat raw fish and sushi. We really enjoyed our meal.
We went there for my son’s birthday. We made a reservation in advance but we had to wait literally 50 minutes before a server came to our table! Only after I told the hostess that we wanted to speak to the manager. Manager then came and we told him how long we had been waiting (we would have left if our kids were not dying from hunger. We had three kids with us ages 4, 11 and 13). He said someone would be with us shortly and also said “let me see if I can get you free appetizers”. After that, it took another forever for the appetizers to come and then the main courses. Food was mediocre. When the check came, we realized that we’re charged for the appetizers unlike what the manager said (who by the way looked 18 years old, very inexperienced looking young man...) We didn’t want to talk to them again, we paid the bill vowing that we would never return there anyway.
One of the worst experiences we have ever had at a restaurant and it was most unfortunate that it was my son’s 13th birthday.
The food here is always good. I started going to Kamehachi when they were in Chicago (from what I understand they were the first Sushi place in the city). It has gotten very pricey but still very good. We were concerned about our orders (we ordered A LOT!) as our server appeared to not understand us most of the time. Nor could she speak English very well, if at all. To our pleasant surprise absolutely everything come out perfectly. We tipped her accordingly. So, go if you like good sushi and don't mind paying top dollar.
Food was great, wait staff was excellent! We will definitely return.
The lunch special was good as always!
Good selection of sushi, sashimi and appetizers. The early closing time was a bit disappointing.
The food was good and the waitress did her best considering the circumstance that the chefs were far behind on orders and so it took forever to get our food. Bad timing when we needed a quick small meal and needed to be on our way. They offered an appetizer of edamame but we don't eat that so that didn't help. I would usually overlook the situation and be understanding because it was a Saturday night, but the place was not even 1/4 full with many open tables. Perhaps they were overloaded with delivery or carryout? Perhaps they were short of chefs? Not sure but it was a disappointment.
There are many Sushi restaurants on the North Shore. This is one of the best.
All the sushi is great.
The Cooked food is great too.
Something for everyone, sushi and non-sushi people.
Thank heavens the noise level was good for talking. The food was excellent and the quantities were large prices not so large. It's seem to authentic which I think was indicated by the fact that there were many Asian people eating in this restaurant which was Asian's cuisine
Always love bringing our little ones here. Food and service is outstanding. My girls love the salmon sushi and meat sticks. Today they treated our birthday girl with an amazing lava cake to top off her special day. Kamehachi never disappoints!
The sushi was fresh and good, but not as interesting or flavorful as in the past. They no longer serve the little dish of seaweed as an opener to all guests. We ordered edamame, but it was never brought (they did not charge us for it).
Best sushi in the Chicago area. Love this place!
The server was excellent. New what was gluten free. The food was beautifully prepared. They do try to hurry you.
The pork belly buns were delicious. The sushi was okay. The service was a bit disappointing, considering they were not busy at all.
Always good service and love they have take-out. Simple inside and nice for families with kids.
This restaurant has some excellent thick cut sushi. Some of the best that I have ever had. Highly recommend
Great sushi and drinks. Good value for experience.
My wife and I had a great late night dinner. Service was polite and excellent. We had spring rolls as an appetizer then a mixture of sushi with beer to wash it down. Very tasty and beautifully plated. One of the best Asian restaurants in the area.
Always one of our favorites. The food and service is always spot on.
We wanted to go outside of our comfort zone and tried a new hot appetizer at the recommendation of our waitress, the Dynamite Seafood. Great new find!
Has been one of our favorites for many years.
The food is always great, the service always timely.
Nice place for lunch, good sushi rolls, quiet and pleasant atmosphere.
Consistently good food and friendly waitstaff
Always love coming to Kamehachi! A great neighborhood restaurant.
Nice place for sushi. Good service , friendly staff.
Our favorite in Northbrook. Regulars.
