Kamasutra Indian Restaurant and Wine Bar Ratings and Reviews
Sadly, when we showed up we were informed that the restaurant was closed! This is despite getting confirmation of the reservations - twice! The restaurant neither called nor emailed me to tell me they would be closed.
They offered us no help in finding another venue (we were celebrating my parents' 86th birthdays) or invite us back at a later date.
We have, till now, been regular clients at the restaurant. After this horrible experience -????
I have been there numerous times - the food is always amazing and service excellent too. I do find it odd that you have to order rice separately from the main dishes. A small bowl of plain rice should be standard with each meal and then if you want to upgrade to a curry rice, for example, you can pay extra.
Kamasutra consistently offers good food and is a favourite neighbourhood place. The Tandoori cauliflower if delicious. Tbe restaurant serves a good selection of Indian cuisine, including many tasty vegetable dishes. On our recent visit, service was uncharacteristically poor. We got lost between servers. Other tables came and went while we waited for our second appetizers after which there was a long gap before the rest of the meal arrived - and then only after composing to the manager and server. Disappointing.
Was our 4 year anniversary, very quick service from the host stand to the table. Excellent service from all servers, a lot of teamwork involved between all of them. Ambiance was great for a romantic dinner/ evening. Price was acceptable but could include the rice and naan bread with the signature dishes for sure. Would definitely go there again and recommend to others.
It was fine, but nothing special. Service was a little bit awkward and forced. 3/4 of the restaurant was empty and yet we were sat directly with 3 other occupied tables. The food was good but not great. The serving sizes were decent. There is much better Indian food in Toronto, but there is worse.
Food was quite good and the ambience was nice. Service, however, was quite irritating on the Saturday evening of our visit. Our server was rather intrusive and kept pushing us to order more. Then he began clearing the table while my friend was still eating; I had to ask him to stop (he was even clearing serving dishes with food still on them). It was an uncomfortable experience. It seemed like every 5 minutes someone was asking how everything was, and would we like anything more. Might return for take-out, but not anytime soon for dining in.
I have frequented Kamasutra a few times this past year. It all started when I was craving spicy food during my pregnancy. We looked on Yelp and saw that this restaurant had a 4 star review, also it was only a 5 minute drive. It was summer time so we were able to sit on the patio looking out on Bayview. The server was friendly and accommodating and even got the chef to cook me something off menu! Fast forward to last Sunday, 20 months and 4 visits later, we ended up with the same server during the lunch hour. We were a group of 10 +2 babies and she was able to serve us quickly and with a smile. Our large group of foodies ordered 5 appetizers - thumbs up to Tandoori Cauliflower, Chicken Malai tikka and Seekh Kabab (not for the faint hearted in terms of spice). Mains were Chicken Curry (excellently spiced), Daal Makhni (a must eat), Malai Kofta (tender and creamy), Lamb Vindaloo and Lamb Gosh along with an assortment of breads. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted great. I keep going back here and try something new each time - I am never disappointed!
My friends and I went for Winterlicious. Excellent. So many choices. We all ordered different dishes and therefore we could share. More than enough for sharing. Service was very attentive. We all decided we could go back to try your regular menu. Also even though it was Winterlicious, we were definitely not rushed.
Dinner was very good, as always, though I thought my Goan Fish wasn't as good as it used to be. I missed the seafood, and the fish itself wasn't as pleasant as what I remember. I also miss the panir appetizer, but it's been a while since it disappeared from the menu. On the whole, however, it was a very nice dinner, with a likable, low-key waiter and nice atmosphere. Keep up the good work, and thanks.
Went for Winterlicious to get first hand experience. Food was selected from the prix fixe menu. Food items were typical but good. Ambiance was nice. Setting was comforting. Staff exceptional - friendly, helpful with a smile. The food was worth it only from the Winterlicious menu. Regular menu saw a larger increase in price. Saw the wine list, nothing lower than $42 but up to $100s. All in all, good experience but because of location, prices a bit heftier.
Modest comfortable interior. Attentive service - a bit excessive in terms of constant greetings from all the staff. Our server, friendly and knowledgeable, offered great recommendations but was much too chatty and interfered with our conversation to the point that it became unbearable. He's a server - needs to respect social boundaries.
Appetizer was incredible and generous spicey options!!
Pilau rice was lovely; eggplant, and shrimp dish were average; needed more spices. Naan was superb! We were stuffed! A nice hidden neighbourhood gem.
We've been looking for a replacement for our favourite Indian restaurant since Babur closed over a year ago. We chose Kamasutra simply because it came up in our open table search and had positive reviews. Our experience was excellent. We had the pedestrian menu this time. butter chicken and rhogan Josh. Although the BC was not up to Babur, that would be a hard standard to meet. It was still very good. And the lamb was excellent. Tender meat and perfectly spiced. Garlic naan superb. Next time we will be more adventurous. Our waiter was helpful, friendly and efficient. The physical space was delightful. Much larger than appears from the outside and nicely appointed. So pleasant to eat at a restaurant with linen tablecloths! A definite do again.
