Kali served the best meal I've ever eaten in LA. The attention to detail and quality they demonstrate is second to none, and their "kill your darlings" approach to menu development leads them to innovate constantly. If you can get here, you should.
We came here for a birthday dinner and both got the seasonal menu since it seemed like the most interesting experience. It was pricy but completely worth it for the excellent variety of flavors as well as the presentation.
Our visit to Kali was wonderful. Our server was super-attentive and excited about the food, and he seemed to genuinely care about us having a good experience. The atmosphere was perfect. Lots of beautiful shades of blue and little trees. And there was blues music playing in the background to boot -- at the perfect volume. The food was absolutely amazing! I particularly loved the Charred Avocado salad and the Duck. I also felt like our exceptional meal came at a reasonable price. Good stuff! :)
It was our goodbye dinner to LA. We are moving to Oakland but definitely coming back every chance we come down! The food, ambiance, service… quality every time we come here! Thank you!
My wife and I have eaten at Kali's on several occasions and have had a great experience each and every time. We really enjoyed the most recent visit. The 5 course tasting menu is outstanding in every way. I would definitely recommend ordering this off the menu. This is a great restaurant for spending the evening and not paying a great deal of money. Well worth the cost.
Wonderful! The heirloom tomato appetizer was creative and delicious and my pork chop was supernaturally tender and juicy. My wife did not enjoy her crudo appetizer due to the Kambucha which she thought was overpowering and harshly acidic.
Always excellent food and service and love the outdoor patio they created.
Delicious and creative food!
Fabulous tasting menu & exceptional service! I highly recommend Kali!
Every dish except for one had flavor problems. We’re vegetarian so we ordered all the vegetarian items on the menu, I believe they’re only five. Except for the acid tomato salad, every single dish was either lacking flavor or way too salty. There is also a hair in one of the items we ordered which sort of made us lose our appetite.
Kali is hands down my favorite restaurant in LA. Chef Kevin always surprises me, and his creations are truly a symphony of flavors. His “Acid Trip” tomato fish made me laugh out loud with joy- crispy black garlic dirt paired perfectly with pickled deliciousness and topped with lemon foam so subtle and fresh I just laughed and laughed. Always try his duck, it will always be the best you’ve ever had. The vibe is relaxed and upscale, and just lets you sit back and enjoy the ride. Truly wonderful service, and some very sweet extra gestures from staff made our anniversary feel so special. Thanks Kali! We’ll be back forever.
This my second time eating at Kali. I have the 5 course tasting menu. I started with a beautiful looking dish referred to as the beach. Out of maybe 6 dishes I liked, underscore liked, one. It was a scallop bite. The rest was really not memorable. To be fair, fish is not my favorite dish, but this experience was quite underwhelming. I can’t even remember some of that plates, but I was looking forward to eating the pasta in pork brodo. It was deeply disappointing. The pasta itself was harder than al dente, the ricotta inside was tasteless and the summer truffles were indistinguishable from sawdust. The lamb dish had the lamb chop of fat with grains of meat in between, such that I didn’t really eat it. The surrounding lamb cigar and lamb loin were good but not worthy of mention. The creamy dish at the end, tasted like a solid cream gelato like dollop with egg grated on top was like the rest of the meal, disappointing and rich but without developed flavor. I won’t go back for this 200$ meal without taste.
I can't believe I wasted $175 on this restaurant. The moment I saw the dirt underneath the unkept nails of our server, the staff's poor attire and how empty the restaurant was on a Sunday night, I should have gotten up and left. Unfortunately I kept believing it would get better and it didn't. The food here is average and definitely not worthy of the prices that they charge. The ambiance in the patio is surrounded by dumpsters and the chairs are uncomfortable. The scallops were not fresh unfortunately. Please don't think about getting the tomato appetizer. It is disgusting. The salad with avocado is average. The uni pasta was amazing. Ok, that will be the solution: let's come here and get the uni pasta, lavender lemonade and donuts and call it a day.
Really great experience. Would 100% go back. Knowledgeable and attentive service combined with amazing food!
Best cocktails, wine choices, cuisine, service EVER!!!!
Had the chef’s tasting menu. Presentation and service were good. Food was decent at best. Definitely not worth the price.
Chef Kevin is super nice. My 3-year-old son wanted eggs only. Chef Kevin only made a pasta with eggs, but he came out to see how he likes it and later on he has waitress to check on him again to make sure he enjoys it. I’ve never seen my son finished such a big plate of foods.
We ordered the Chef 8 courses, and every dishes is like a beautiful ART piece, which deliciously surprise our palates.
What I miss the most is the Tomato Salad with the lemon foam, Avocado Sorbet and I think it’s a wild tomato that I never seen before. The combination is so unique but delicious!
Great good, service and ambiance. Love the freshness and the friendless of the entire staff. One of my favorite spots in LA
One of the very best restaurants in Los Angeles. The food is inventive, very fresh and delicious. And the cocktails are great too!
Outstanding experience, as usual. This is my number one restaurant in L.A. The food is the exquisite, the presentation is beautiful, excellent customer service, friendly people and the wine selection is the best.
One of the best restaurants I’ve been to in LA. The food was exquisite. We got the oysters, scallop ceviche, black garlic risotto, and the duck breast. As a big fan of raw seafood, both the oysters and scallop ceviche are some of the best I’ve ever had. The risotto is a bit too rich for my taste but my friend really likes it. Duck breast is also amazing. For dessert we got the meringue gelato and the blueberry & elderflower sorbet. Highly highly recommend the meringue gelato!
Incredible menu with amazing service. Hands down my favorite restaurant in LA.
Pork chop was off the charts!
Friendly and professional staff made you feel so welcome. Feels like a neighborhood restaurant that happens to have a Michelin star.
We went for my husbands birthday celebration as he had wanted to try. Our experience exceeded our expectations. Everything was as beautiful as it was tasty. The best meal we’ve experienced in a very long time. The service was impeccable as well. Our server, Jessica was very attentive and extremely knowledgeable in regard to the menu and any questions that we had. We would highly recommend and plan on going back.
Hands down the best restaurant in LA!
low-key but excellent food, easy atmosphere and space, great for dinner for two or four. The charred avocado salad, the potatoes, and the meringue dessert were incredible.
A truly incredible experience that blew away VERY high expectations. An A+ meal with A+ service.
Fantastic food and drink
Excellent and delicious
Great menu. Well executed.
Very accomodating, great food, made our 10th-anniversary memorable!
Delicious, unique food and friendly, knowledgeable service
Unique restaurant in terms of esthetics , “food design”, and presentation + delicious taste !
Excellent, interesting food, and most dishes are very shareable. The duck is superb. The gelato with egg yolk shavings dessert is worth the trip. They have a parking lot patio which is pleasant enough. Very happy this fine dining but casual restaurant is in our neighborhood.
Great tasting food, but nothing spectacular. It seems, to an extent, that in an effort to use creative and elaborate ingredients they have missed the mark on exemplifying the most important part of their dishes. The garnishes overpower the fish, the black garlic ketchups on the meats are more impressive than the taste of the meat itself. So it was good food, but it could have been better.
Excellent menu, tasty dishes, great drinks and professional service. What else can you ask for?
Exceptional dining experience as always! The wine list and pairings were spot on, and service was professional and friendly. Can’t wait to return!
Unbelievably delicious preparation of food. Interesting combinations and a very special experience.
