Wonderful food and service, will definitely go back again!
Some of the dishes we had were brilliant, as in shockingly good. I highly suggest you save room for the shaved egg yolk gelato. That dish could win awards.
We started with charred avocado and it was incredible; a fantastic combination of blackened fats with light dressing and nutty pistachios. Superb creation. I then ordered the pork loin which was a very bad choice that night. While the recipe itself was well designed (with a sweetness and roasted flavor), they served me a loin that was barely edible due to the fat marbling. I tried to eat around it but was getting an upset stomach. (My date's cod was impeccable so perhaps try that if they are serving it). The servers were very thoughtful about the pork. They brought me a digestif, and of course didn't charge for the entree. It was a bit shocking that made it out of the kitchen though. But everyone was very nice.
Three things are very odd about this place. We ordered a room temperature water and were told we'd have to get out of our seats and move our belongings because the water was stored under where I was sitting. That's strange. Second, the tables are too small. They have these wonderful plates and what with water glasses and wine glasses and these oversized ceramic plates, you cannot have two people on tables that small . I'm 200 pounds, and five of the table options in that place meant I'd be touching elbows with the people next to me or in the walking path. Not to mention that all of us felt like we were having dinner literally with the people next to us. I refuse to let this become just an LA gripe. I know it's hard to make a profit in the restaurant industry. But a redesign is in order to get rid of that half wall between the bar and dining room.
And most important: NO, DO NOT CHILL RED WINES. I worked for wineries, tasting rooms, and wine/cigar bars: Wine temperatures matter. Our Pinot was so closed up, we had to breathe into the glasses for ten minutes. So strange.
Still a great place.
Nice menu ... limited lunch hours ... knowledgeable servers ...
Fave restaurant in LA. Everything about our dining experience there is always perfect and consistently amazing- the food, staff, chef, ambiance. It’s a must go to in LA
Kali is my favorite restaurant in the world. It is an exquisite experience, and every bite is bliss.
4th time to Kali. Always has been so good. Cocktails and bread was on point but everything else this time was very salty and all the meat was very fatty and chewy. The charred avocado which used to be magical felt just blah. Very disappointed as I used to love this place but for the price point it has to be better.
Hidden star...lucky not many know about this michalin star gem or else I wouldn’t have been able to make a last minute reservation. I am sure word will get out soon
We always have such a nice dinner at this restaurant, it is one of my favorites.
The food here is incredible. Light, fresh, flavorful, local, sustainable. Everything you want in a meal, you will walk away amazed at how beautiful and tasty your meal was. Great wines and drinks as well in a bright open space. Not a loud restaurant at all, perfect for great conversation amongst friends!
Great Experience and fantastic service. We both enjoyed our meals also
My boyfriend and I were in LA for the weekend and decided to go to Kali to celebrate our anniversary Sunday night and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious, the wine pairing was great and our server, Jess, was fantastic!
Kali has amazing, creative food; a wonderful wine selection and the very best service. This is one of the very best restaurants in LA.
From start to finish a 10. The thought and care that went into creating and presenting each unique tasting dish, was etheric and food from the gods! Downright Masterful.
Loved the whole dining experience at Kali. Jessica and all other wait staff were friendly and fully knowledgeable about food and wine. Chef Kevin’s food was exceptional. We were a group of 5 and each one of us enjoyed our first and second courses. Of course we had to have the gelato with shaved preserved egg yolks. Perfect end to a lovely meal.
Interesting and exciting cuisine. Very good wines for reasonable prices. They made an extra pasta for our three year old daughter free of charge. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Service is impeccable.....food is wonderful....love dining at KALI
Very knowledgeable staff. Great wine recommendations. Wish the oysters were cold and not almost room temperature. Excellent service and food. Thank you for a lovely evening
The staff was very friendly and provided great service. Though the staff could be more knowledgeable about the food and wine served - they made mistakes when talking about ingredients and the wine.
Such a fine evening! Went to celebrate a dear friend’s birthday. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Our server was personable, knowledgeable and attentive. Definitely will be back!
Inventive cuisine, creative wine list, friendly, attentive and informal service. A place that serves high quality food without unnecessary glitz or pretense. The Barley Risotto was particularly memorable. Will return!
Great meal, valuable wine list, could do better on the dessert menu.
deserves the reputation. service, presentation, and taste were out of sight. we will be back soon.
Chef doeant observe traditional meat temperatures and would rather ruin a guest's evening than properly cook a steak. Big problem. Sent it back twice. Wait staff was very helpful but admitted it happened alot which is a problem for this restaurant. Can't recommend until they figure this out.
Positive thoughts:. Great service and the avocado salad was wonderful!
Parts of my pork loin were actually raw (which I didn’t find out until I brought it home). They charged me $38 for it when the menu had stated it was $29. When I talked to the manager about it, he was profusely apologizing for the mistake. All around — didn’t feel like the food warranted those prices.
Meant to leave this review the day after our visit, but my app messed up and apparently it didn’t save. What I was going to say though is that dining at Kali is an experience you should not miss. Chef Kevin is at the top of his game. His recent Michelin Star is testament enough to that. But his food makes the case all on its own. From start to finish, we enjoyed every bite. Don’t know when we’ll be back in LA next, but when we are, Kali will definitely be on the list!
We went to Kali for our anniversary. It was an amazing experience. The food was great, and service was friendly and attentive. I would highly recommend the Chef's tasting menu. Completely worth it.
Really lovely place in Larchmont, super flavorful dishes and great low key vibe
As with all my experiences at Kali, dinner was spectacular. My wife and I have been many times and eagerly brought good friends visiting from Maryland. We had the seasonal tasting menu with the wine pairing...every dish and every pairing were incredible. One of our friends remarked that it might have been the best meal she’d ever had. The Michelin star is well well deserved, and maybe next year it will be two stars.
Finally! Los Angeles deserves more restaurants like Kali!!!! Will be going back soon.
Fantastic food and service!
The tomato and berry salad starter is so good that it would make an interesting dessert. Pork was one of the best I have ever had. Our server Deana was great.
Some of the food was great but 2 of the 4 dishes we had were disappointing.
Unbelievable special meal. Best food in la. Amazing experience
The food was extraordinary but the service was abysmal. It took forever for someone to take our order. And, we were basically ignored the entire time. One of us asked the waiter for a glass of wine to match her next course (and literally said: bring any wine). She had finished her meal and he never brought the wine. She ended up having to order from another waitress who seemed annoyed. The waiter never returned to take a dessert order. Finally we were able to flag someone else who again became annoyed they had to take our order. The restaurant is not large so it is remarkable how ignored we were - it's almost as though they had to try to avert their eyes to wait on us. It is a very expensive restaurant - the food is amazing - wish the service was better especially given the recent Michellin star rating. The staff did not seem to care.
Amazing food and friendly service. We’ll be going back in the near future.
Fantastic Food! Flavour combinations spot on! Would highly recommend.
We went because it's got a Michelin star. The food was good, but we were very surprised by the noise level. Although many LA restaurants are noisy, this place is just unreasonably loud, people were literally shouting across the table. The staff said they were going to change the flooring and install more sound absorbing wall covering soon, before that happens I certainly will not go back.
We had an amazing waitress and the staff was very kind and helpful. We enjoyed the chefs menu. Will go back and would love to recommend it to friends!
The food was great especially when paired with the quality to price ratio. Highly recommend!
