What Insiders Are Saying
Plenty of new restaurants are good, but few are actually memorable. Kali leave its mark.
This was a very pleasant adventure in dining, facilitated by excellent staff.
Exceptional food in a lively neighborhood setting. A great addition to the restaurants on Melrose.
My wife and I really enjoyed this restaurant for the second time. The service and food are outstanding. The yellowtail crudos and the agnolotti are really the best that we have ever eaten. My wife enjoyed her cod and I really enjoyed the pork loin. The dessert that is a meringue sorbet is absolutely magnificent. This restaurant is great for those who appreciate great food at reasonable prices. We will definitely return to this place in the near future.
Absolute neighbourhood gem. The service as well as food were a top notch. It's that perfect combination of authentic, clean but robust culinary experience without being stuffy or overpriced. This place should be really embraced by everyone from casual diners, foodies or special occasion visitors. Highly recommended.
Amazing. A restaurant where every dish is exceptional. We tasted a selection of courses, with mouthwatering flavors, ranging from light to satisfyingly rich. Fresh, flavorful, locally handselected ingredients, the presentation, service, and every detail reflect a unique love for the craft of a truly masterful chef.
The best restaurant in Los Angeles.
Try it. It will be memorable
What else can I say about Kali besides it's one of the best restaurants in town? Chef Kevin and his team kill it every night, with specials, their meat fridge (always new and interesting things to try) and their classics. The barley risotto, the pork chop with fennel pollen, yellowtail crudo? Why are you not already here? Best place in town.
Wonderful special occasion place. Excellent service.
Good value and quality lunch. Patient and attentive service. Only comment is the 5% surcharge add onto the bill called “kitchen appreciation”. Only in the US that customers have to pay for the staffs inadequate salary. Sad but it is what it is here.
Great meal! Great food! Great service! Just go you will enjoy it.
Divine food and a calming beautiful space.
We enjoyed meeting the owner/chef. He spent time talking about the ingredients in my husbands pasta, which he served. Delightful evening.
Great food, great service.
One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. Amazing food, loveliest servers!
Excellent service and food was fantastic! We loved the cocktails as well.
Enjoyed the tasting menu. it was different. Fourth and fifth course were excellent. And Madeira with the desert course was a beautiful surprise in the end. Kali is defionayely redefining fusion gourmet food
My fiance and I tried Kali during DineLA and would definitely go back again. Great ambiance and food. Good place to take friends from out of town for a nice dinner.
The food was spectacular and the service was great. We had David as our sever - he was sweet, polite and recommended the best dishes!! I love the drinks they had as well very different and tasty. Overall it was a great experience and I will be recommending this spot, thanks for the delicious food and great experience!! ❤️❤️❤️
Great service! Previous time we had the same experience.
I’ve been to Kali several times for lunch and brunch but last Friday was my first for dinner. The food was very good and reasonably priced. I felt that the same dishes were better during the lunch hours. The charred avocado dish was quite bland this time around and not charred enough. We ordered a bottle of wine and were disapppojted with the pinot noir selection. The price jumps from about $50 to $160. They need something in between for each category in my opinion. We felt a bit rushed by our waiter in the beginning and the food was served a bit too fast. I know it was restaurant week (not why we went) but I don’t think a fairly upscale restaurant like Kali should rush its patrons. Our guests enjoyed the risotto, sea urchin and red meat dish. I like Kali for the veggie options and their willingness to accommodate. Will go back again at dinner to compare.
We were expecting better so were a little disappointed. The food was good but not outstanding. The ambience was nothing special, the service friendly but not inspired. With all of the great eating opportunities in LA we wouldn’t put Kali in the top 10 on our list.
Kali is always exceptional, and this time was no different. Kevin Meehan is at the top of his game, and everything was prepared to perfection as usual. He takes the utmost care and so much time in creating each and every one of his dishes, from delicious salads and appealing appetizers all the way through to exquisite desserts. It's that special-occasion place that deserves a place at the top of your list.
We came for dinner and decided to do dinela.
They have an excellent day I list.
Entrees were yummy
Great time. Definitely would come back
Excellent warm service from the wait staff and the food was very good.
Black barley risotto and uni pasta were salty and nothing memorable. Meringue gelato was absolutely delicious though.
Food is unique and great. Very service oriented
We went for the DineLA lunch menu. The choices were very good. The service was immaculate. We were impressed that the chef came round to each table to check on our experience. The location is at the dodgier end of Melrose but quite acceptable. Would return in a heartbeat.
We went for a friend's birthday and had a fabulous lunch! The food was delicious and the staff knowledgeable and incredibly nice. The chef even came out at the end to say hello and make sure we had enjoyed ourselves. We are all going back without question and I've already recommended it to several friends. Definintely a neighborhood gem!
Six of us dined at Kali - 2 were from out of town. The drinks were average. All of us wanted green salads, but the menu selection was only "charred avocado" (been there; done that). Long after our appetizers were eaten the bread arrived. That was the best part of the meal, but why it arrived after the appetizers, I don't know. We waited so long for our main courses, over an hour and forty-five minutes since we arrived - and then half of us were served and waited 10 minutes more (ours getting cold) until the rest were served. All the waiter could do was apologize. My lamb, while expensive, did not live up to expectations; neither did the black barley risotto or the pork loin. Our guest said the cod was very good. We found two of their "best desserts" - the doughnuts and the meringue gelato - rather bland, nothing special. Overall I was embarrassed that we brought out of town guests to this fairly expensive restaurant. Slow service (I blame the kitchen not the waiter), and not very good food. There is little to recommend except it's neighborhood convenience and the bread.
Food is always spectacular. First visit was uni spaghetti, t-bone for two, duck breast, rosemary donuts and meringue ice cream for dessert. Second was also uni spaghetti, plus two salads (grilled avocado and burrata with winter vegetables) and two of us had the rock cod. All the dishes were fantastic, standouts were the uni pasta with generous servings of uni, grilled avocado salad, and the donut with rosemary cream. Wine selection great and the bartender/waiter quite helpful on that. Service is a bit off at times, waiters would forget simple requests or to bring the bill when requested and come up with a silly excuse. Also I found the whole tipping thing odd with some for the kitchen, some for the front. Unclear how much you should ultimately leave.
Our server was amazing and knowledgeable, the food was shockingly delicious, and the drinks were AMAZING. Would recommend to anyone.
Phenomenal food, with the brunch one of the best I've had in LA! The bacon was insane, the fried chicken and waffles perfect with the merengue Gelato topped with candied preserved egg yolk, the most ridiculous and decadent finish
The presentation was excellent but I thought that most of the plates lacked flavor. The rib eye and risotto were excellent however.
The food was truly outstanding. Don't miss the cocktails either.
We had an amazing chef’s tasting menu. The best in LA.
When the food arrives at the table, it looks stunning. When you tastes it, it tastes stunning.
Food was a bit precious and presentation was just ok.
Food was excellent
Excellent food and service.
Our favorite spot in LA. Food, atmosphere, servers- everything is outstanding. Chef Kevin is a culinary genius!
It was a truly wonderful meal, with special kudos for the beef, sheepshead fish, the crudo and the salad.
