Kalani's Ratings and Reviews
The food was fantastic!! ... once we actually got it. Our kids’ meals came out quickly, which was great, but it was then a full 35 minutes before the grown-ups got food. The restaurant was not full and didn’t seem understaffed, so I’m not sure why it took so long. Great food though!
Kalani’s is a great option in amongst a bunch of pizza and other fast food type options. Service is excellent and very prompt.
Food was pretty good too. The signature Chilean sea bass was wonderful. As were the tuna poke and seafood platter (2 scallops, 1 jumbo shrimp and fish of the day which was New Zealand sea bass today).
We even ordered a filet steak and that was declared ‘delicious’ by the person who finished it off!
A couple of the appetizer dishes didn’t quite hit the same levels. Cucumber Kim Chee was very salty (so much so that we couldn’t really eat it and the server took it back). Baby back ribs and edamame were okay.
Worth a visit if you’re in the Heavenly Village Area.
For the price of a meal at Kalani’s, I expected a lot more. The meals are either 1) Sushi (pretty good) or 2) a big chunk of meat or fish without a significant side dish. The members of our party ar not vegetarians, but don’t find the appeal of a meat-centric meal. And paying extra for some unappealing veggies just adds insult to injury.
There were a number of service glitches. The bathrooms were dirty, the salads were soggy, and in all, I felt like I was being corralled like a tourist when I was expecting a nice dining experience. Go elsewhere.
Excellent food - variety, taste, texture, everything was perfect. All Hawaiian dishes are great. Really good sushi, too. The drinks are a bit expensive - cocktails $12 each. The quality of drinks was very good - the mai tai was better than what I had in Hawaii.
Came here for a quiet date night. Made my reservations last minute but was able not to find a table. Very happy that we dined here. Came exclusively for the sushi. Ordered a roll that was off the menu due to items not being available, however the chef was able to make some substitutions. Absolutely amazing. The quality and taste is superb. Would recommend to anyone walking on the street. Definitely will be back again
My husband proposed to me about 100 feet from this restaurant. We were headed there for dinner after a long weekend of Halloween shenanigans. We go back every year around the day that he proposed. This year it was five years since he proposed. The hostess said that we looked nice and asked if it was a special occasion. We told her the story, and she was so sweet and kept congratulating us. A few minutes later, our waitress came out with two glasses of champagne and congratulated us. Our waitress was AMAZING. Seriously one of the sweetest people I had ever met. After our appetizers, the hostess came back with a Lake Tahoe postcard with kind words of congratulations and thank yous for continuing to come back every year. My husband and I both got a little choked up. The staff was so attentive and sweet. As we left, everyone said thank you for spending our anniversary with them. It was such a special night for us, and they made it even more special. I would tell friends/family/strangers to go there. It really was a wonderful experience. We plan to go back soon, not just for our anniversary.
This was our first time to Kalanis and it was very good. Service and food preparation was excellent. the staff there is really nice and manager Troy was great at coming by to see how we're enjoying everything. The food selections are really fun especially with the Asian flare to several of them. If you prefer the staples like steaks, they have those also but the seafood was our favorite. The asian style Sea Bass was fresh and the sauce they use with it is outstanding. The Barramundi was also really well prepared and tasty. The heavanly salad was another highlight and I will definitely go back for that and the fish dishes. Chef Kevin is outstanding and we knew him from another restaurant before so we weren't surprised by the high quality of the food. If you enjoy wine, they have some nice selections also. The location in Heavenly village is nice when staying in the area. Definitely a place to go to when in the Lake Tahoe area!
We made our reservations based on the menu and reviews that the restaurant recognizes special events. However, they must never read the reservation Because the NEVER asked if we were having a special occasion . The restaurant was basically empty when we arrived and were told we could pick where we wanted to sit. It Took a while for our service to get started.
After our initial waitress came we had pretty good service, but we were Never offered Anything extra or special for our special day. It is VERY EXPENSIVE and everything is al la carte.
Our entrees were excellent and so was the desserts.
But if you have a Special Occasion, I would say DON'T EXPECT ANYTHING from the Restaurant.
We had a great family dinner in Sunday night October 1st. Five of us there to celebrate my husband and my birthday (same day!). We were welcomed and seated promptly. Our server was friendly, very sweet and overall the staff was excellent. We all had fish dinner entrees - each of is ordered something different. Each of is really enjoyed our dinners! Fantastic! Our server brought my husband and I special desserts with a lot candle to celebrate our birthday! The rest of our group order desserts as well. Loved them!. We also had the pear martini, guava cocktail and scotch! Excellent. Thanks for a great night!
Located near the Heavenly Gondola.
The ambiance is quiet and can be intimate depending on where you sit.
The menu is a mix of Hawaiian and Sushi. I guess you'd call is Hawaiian Fusion.
Anyways... they bring out crackers and sweet butter for the table. It's a little odd. My husband was not a fan. I munched on the crackers because I was hungry and after tasting the butter, left that alone.
We started with the Caesar because it had listed passion fruit in the dressing. We didn't taste any passion fruit, it just tasted like a Caesar.
We both ordered the Sea Bass. The fish was delicious. It came on a bed of mixed greens? They were warm and wilted. I think this is how it was supposed to be? I ate it but it didn't seem quite right.
I'd give this place another try because the service and ambiance were very nice!
We sat outside at Kalani's because our little dog came with us for dinner. We had so much fun being seated with young families and other pups! I had a very large chicken salad with fresh ingredients that was delicious! My husband really enjoyed his order of Miso soup, fried garlic tofu and the Hawaiian Roll which was just beautifully served. Our wine was very good too.
The service was great because our waitress was so welcoming and attentive. The quality of the service was truly outstanding with water glasses being refilled, all the orders were correct and served quickly. I can't comment on the interior of the restaurant since we didn't go in but we will save that for our return visit!
