Kalaheo Steak and Ribs
Dinner: T-Su 5:00pm-9:30pm
Great local restaurant with good size portions and tasty food. The prime rib was the perfect size.
First time with the great burger!
Great food and friendly, personable service. We will be back!
Prime Rib and Ribs were very good. Service was very good. Not crowded at 5pm
Awesome as always. Food is top notch! Server's are knowledgable & friendly. We'll definitely be back 💜
Sweet neighborhood spot for great steaks and ribs. We enjoyed the low key vibe with local families in a homey atmosphere. Calimari appetizer was great. Leave the poke. Meat lovers will be very happy.
Nothing was mentioned about my birthday/anniversary. The male waiters need to smile more and check time to time how people are doing instead of me looking at whomever comes from the back and keep asking them for stuff. The previous time I was there Dee the waitress was on point. This last time with the male servers... hmmmm.
Outstanding food and service. House Ahi special was amazing. Good portion sizes and nice variety. We will definitely be back.
Good food, pretty reasonable prices considering the location. Good value especially at happy hour. A LOT of food. Couldn't finish it all.
After days of eating great seafood on Kauai, it was great to switch it up and have some BEEF! These are not the super-thick steaks you find at prime steakhouses but the ribeye was cooked just right and extremely flavorful (they dust it with brown sugar and chili flake). Other winners at our table included the chicken piccata, the meatloaf, and the prime rib stirfry.
Always a great meal and the owners are amazing. There is a band 3 nights a week and its always great music
Excellent food and service, as usual. A couple of quibbles--we asked for rare and medium rare for two of our steaks and the degree of doneness was more than expected. Also, while the menu said that there would be complimentary bread pudding for dessert if we ordered before 6pm, which we did, we were not offered the bread pudding, which we could not have eaten anyway, but the offer would have been appreciated and in keeping with the menu. Finally, with all the grain fed beef on Kauai, why does KSR use Colorado beef?
KSR is by far our favorite restaurant on the island! The meals are so delicious, the cocktails are wonderful, the service is great and Ernie ALWAYS is Aloha! He makes you feel like ohana🤙🏽 Love it!
Everything was delightful, we highly recommend this place!
They were out of prime rib at 6:30pm. The kitchen was backed up & they are literally only busy from 6-8pm! The place was empty by 8 but it took over an hour to get our food! Off the beaten path - don’t bother!
Prime rib was excellent, Filet could be a slight bit rarer but not way off. Limited but reasonable wine list.
We learned about Kalaheo Steak and Ribs by checking online as we are visitors from Hilo. The building looked very rustic but not unlike the buildings in my hometown of Lahaina. The decor was rustic and definitely country and Western in flavor. We started off the meal with mushrooms that were good. I had the rib eye steak which was cooked very perfectly and very tender. The garlic mashed potatoes and the steamed beans were a perfect complement. We shared the brownie with ice cream which was lovely and perfect to share.
Service was very good and the waiters were very attentive.
Superb !! I return to Kaua'i often however I’ve never eaten here. Our party ordered steaks, fettuccine, and meatloaf. Everything tasted great. Everyone's steak was cooked just the way they liked it. I'm sorry a reviewer had a bad experience here a few months ago but the service we experienced was outstanding !!! Highly recommend. I will add this to one of my gotta visit places !!
Wonderful experience! Probably the best food we had on our trip. Great service, wonderful hospitality and reasonably priced. What a gem! We are definitely going back on our next trip.
We had a superb time and will be back soon! We loved coming at happy hour and were thrilled with our meals. Thank you so much!
My family of four arrived at the location which was hardly lit, looked like a old time saloon and lacking with customers. We decided to give it a chance since we were starving. My husband ordered an iced tea, which tasted like sour milk. He notified the waitress who took it back and advised she tasted it too. She mentioned the tea comes from a machine and is not freshly brewed. We should have took that as a sign to leave. We ordered an appetizer which arrived within a timely manner. The waitress dropped off baked bread. We ordered dinner and the waitress did not come back to our table for forty minutes to advise the kitchen processed a large order due to a big group in the front of the restaurant. First off, why didn’t she inform us prior to ordering? Or give us a heads up at least?? She then brought us some more bread to appease my starving kids. Another fifteen minutes passes and we asked for the manager. The owner comes out and says he will check with the kitchen. Our food finally arrives ten minutes later. The food was okay. Nothing to write home about. I ordered a stuffed pork chop. My husband ordered a blackened fish that was dry. My two daughters had kids fettuccine, which was okay. Long story short the waitress offered us a free dessert for the hassle which in my opinion was not an equal compensation for waiting over an hour to eat dinner in a non-busy restaurant. I was disappointed and will never go back. The customer service was poor. The food was subpar and the location needs updating. If they keep this up they will not be in business for much longer.
My family went for Father’s Day dinner. We arrived a little early for our reservations but it didn’t take long to get seated. The Prime Rib was fantastic. Along with a House drink, the Passion Mule. Service was super! They treated us like Ohana as soon as we walk in the doorway.
The service was awful. Had to ask for drink refills every time. The waiter was inattentive and forgot to put in part of our order. When the food came out, it was underwhelming at best. The ribeye was OK - much thinner than I’m used to. It wasn’t cooked to the right temperature. The vegetables were the only real tasty part of the meal. Stay away from the garlic truffle fries. The garlic is overwhelming and they are too oily. Skip the bread pudding. It was soggy (seems like it had been microwaved prior to serving) and tasteless. Overall, more than disappointing.
The service was good but the steaks were not good. At all. Honestly, we left more on the plate and in our napkins than we put in our bellies. The NY strip steaks were exceptionally fatty and gristly.
All in all, we were sadly disappointed.
Out of the way but popular, presumably authentic steak place, not fancy; maybe not worth looking for.
The steak was thin and not for purists who want just a good cut done properly, but ok if one wants sauces.
Cannot comment on the tuna since I got only the potato. Some sort of mix up; apparently some people order just the potato
A very nice local restaurant. Very good food, nice wait staff. Good portions well prepared. A short drive from Poipu.
We took our son and partner out for dinner and it was a lovely, local restaurant where they knew the wait staff, there was a popular local band down in the basement, and the food was lovely.
We all had something different and everyone loved their meal. The salads were fresh and the meals were hot. All except mine, the ahi tuna,,,and its sort of hard to get it hot as its not cooked that long.
The ribs were big and tasty, the prime rib stir fry was also and the stuffed pork chop. I ordered a tall Tanguray and tonic with 2 limes and it was mixed perfect!!! We would return!!
We come to Kauai every year and always eat here at least twice. The Prime Rib is the best on the island! Good crisp salads too!
Open Table would only let us book a table for 8 at 5-5:30pm so only 6 if us went. When we got there we went at 6:45 and could have easily sat 8. I had tried to call them direct but no one answered the phone.
We all loved our food and cocktails and will return!
Food was excellent. Service a little slow and plates got mixed up when served.
Have been coming back here for years because the food, service and ambiance are all constant. I've been to a lot of eateries here where the food or the service can be "hit or miss". The owners of Kalaheo Steak House are usually always around checking on tables and talking story and genuinely care about their diners' experience. It has a great warm "ohana" feel to it . I often have visitors stay with us and they eat here 2 to 3 times a week during their stay.
Fun local paneolo(cowboy) atmosphere. Loved the prime rib and steaks. Local
ingredients, affordable menu items, friendly service. Nice for celebrations or when you need to satisfy your inner carnivore.
This is a very nice neighborhood restaurant away from the tourist scene. Good local food, not glamorous but a good place for a meal. Good portions; friendly staff.
Everyone friendly except hostess with dark hair. She was VERY rude.
Fantastic quality beef, everything fresh, and literally the best service we've experience since moving to Hawaii. The restaurant is clean, very well built and designed and decorated, very professional and friendly staff who clearly understand how to deliver excellent service.... prime rib was perfect, very nice portion. The owner came to the table to greet us and to talk story... and as a former restaurant owner who is exceptionally critical.... I was seriously impressed. The table cloths, the salt and pepper shaker, the hand cut wine bottle oil lamps on the table... the locally sourced produce and beef... literally was incredibly impressed .
This is worth the drive from Lihue! Its about 15 minutes south of Lihue, so worth the scenic drive... and parking was easy to find. The outside of the restaurant looks as if it was freshly painted. The interior looks as if it was just renovated.. but his was done right!
Seriously.... eat here! Great prices, great portions, great quality food... the garlic bread they start you with is amazing too....
Yes... we are coming back and this time we are bringing friends.
Enjoyed the Hawaiian band on Thursday nights. Great prime rib and French onion soup.
We have enjoyed coming to Kahaleo steak over the past few years whenever we come to Kauai. The food is always excellent and the staff friendly and efficient. We were sad to hear that it is for sale. We hope when new owners are found that the traditions of good food and service will carry on.
Food was excellent. Food preparation was slow, but results were worth the wait. Wait staff was diligent and express they gratitude for our patience.
Great service. Wonderful drinks from a very friendly bartender.
We have been going to Kalaheo Steak House for decades. We’ve never had a bad meal. I love the meatloaf and my wife likes the prime rib (available Thursday to Sunday). Order it medium rather than medium-rare as I find that it tends to more on the rare side here. We love the ambience. My father-in-law was a Wisconsin farmer who loved farming with draft horses, and I always think of him when I’m at KS&R. Great place. My only complaint is that I wish they had tap beer.
Great food and great night out with friends!
