The restaurant and its food did not betray our extremely high expectation, as always! The experience is fully worse visiting the restaurant and spending a few hours of going through ten plus vegetarian full course.

Big creative work to make dishes. Nice service. I was expecting an interesting discover of vegan. But except three dishes i have found everyone without flavour. Some dishes was especially bland. What a pity for such a creativity

The best Shojin cuisine in NYC! The flavor and texture of its vegan dishes are absolutely refreshing and inspiring. The spirit of Zen is also accompanying you through the whole dining experience. It is a pity that the owner decided to close it by mid Sep.

Excellent and unique cuisine, beautifully presented and served. Highly recommended if you can go without meat for a meal. My only downside is that there is absolutely zero music, so before the restaurant filled up, it was too quiet and slightly awkward. Once there were many people eating and talking, it was a relaxing atmosphere. The food here is really outstanding!

Tasteless. Avoid. We visited Kajitsu encouraged by number of enthusiastic reviews and Michelin recommendation. How disappointing it was. The ten-course menu is a repeated combination of bamboo and asparagus. The served food either had no taste at all or rather an unpleasant one. In result I could not get through most of the courses. The main course deserves special attention: it was a mixture of steamed rice and bamboo and lacked both flavor and presentation. It could be only compared to the rice pulp sometimes recommended to stomach patients. As we happily approached the third course we started laughing at our own vanity, snobbery, and tendency to trust reviews blindly. We had hoped that maybe the desert section will change the course of these unfortunate events. Our hopes were blown away once we were served with something that looked like marinated plum and tasted like a reduction of the secondrate vinegar. Even matcha did not taste anything like in Japan. The staff is polite, but rather distant, which is understandable in a Japanese restaurant. Nevertheless, I could not help but wonder whether they are comfortable with pricey food they are serving there. Do not use the restroom. The smell is not encouraging. Of course, there were also some unquestionable benefits of this evening: it has been a long time since we had such a laugh at dinner. Besides the next day I felt quite featherlight and I did not feel like eating at all.

I came to experience something amazing and was splurging and treating myself, but was very disappointed. I have no idea how this restaurant obtained a Michelin star as the food was very bland and without flavor. Out of the 10 course meal, there was only one course that made me smile and my taste buds happy. The rest, very very bland and had no flavor. What a waste of my time and money

Absolutely lovely. I'm not a vegetarian but that's beside the point when so many lovely dishes are presented to you; you can hardly keep track, and you certainly don't miss the meat. Course after course came, most exquisitely presented, all delicious, and all in keeping with the original tradition of the tea ceremony and the Kaiseki which developed from that. I believe most staff are bilingual, and were kind enough to let me try my best attempts at Japanese with them. I truly felt transported to Japan, at a time when its borders are solidly closed to tourists. Thanks!

A delicious vegan meal that was meticulously plated and carefully curated in respect to flavors, textures, and cooking methods. The amount of food was just right, and though both of us dining were omnivores, we weren’t left desiring any kind of non-vegan food to supplement the meal afterwards. The staff was attentive and polite.

The food was amazing, the concept is great. I have been doing an impromptu omakase crawl around the upper east side. It’s nice to find a place that is so high quality that it is on par with the omakase restaurant which focus on fish. At kajistu you can be an omnivore and never think about the fact that you haven’t had animal protein for the entire meal. The flavors that the chef puts onto each plate deliver a well rounded taste and sensation experience, which was enjoyed immensely. I especially loved the curry with udon.
