A seasonal menu that you can’t miss with bamboo shoots from Kyoto. Also the Sakura mochi. Suggest to go with the omakase menu to get the full experience.
Beautiful, elegant food, expertly paced, with friendly but very professional service.
Birthday celebration and they made it feel great. Service was very nice. The wait staff needs to speak up just a bit I found it hard to hear what the dishes were so I had to keep asking additional questions about the food. It didn’t stop me from enjoying though
Great experience. Excellent food. They talk you through all the courses and the service is pretty fast. The 8 course pre fixed menu will take about 2 hours and it's reservation only.
Beautiful food nice service we enjoy the dining here
Kajitsu offers a remarkable vegan omakase. No animal products at all. Such an amazing experience from the firsr course to the last. Definitely would come back.
Each dish was beautifully put together and there was not a single thing that we did not enjoy. It was clear the chef put a lot of effort into every dish and there were a variety of drinks to suit everyone. You pay for the quality of the food but I must say that were very satisfied after the many many courses!
The waitresses were very knowledgeable and on hand right away on any questions or further drinks orders that we needed. The dishes were served very quickly which was good as there was a lot of courses to get through.
The restaurant was very minimalist and no music but there are only a number of tables and very spaced out which meant dining felt private.
Overall we had a wonderful experience and really glad we tried this place during our trip to NYC. We would return to NYC just to try Kajitsu again!
Kajitsu is a one of the best restaurants I have been to in a long time. Service was impeccable and the food prepared in the most meticulous ways. This is a place that once discovered will be on the tip of every diner's tongue.
Excellent food and topnotch service. The pacing of the courses was a little too fast on the night of our visit.
Beautiful service, environment & food is nicely put together. Although it is a luxurious experience, we did not perceive the food as being worth the price.
Everything was gorgeous and authentic Japanese, from the lovely dishware and serving platters to the incredible food to the sake. The waitstaff was wonderful. Perfect for a special occasion. Highly recommend the Omakase menu.
My gf is vegetarian so I was super excited to have her try an authentic vegetarian omakase. We both left pretty disappointed after shelling out $350. The experience of an omakase was great but the food was subpar and out hot courses were lukewarm/cold. May be it was an off day for them, but if I’m shelling out that kind of money I want to leave throughly satisfied with the food which was no where near the case.
There are 2 sections to this restaurant. On the main level is a-la-carte dining whilst the 2nd level is a strictly vegetarian omakase style dining with no meat nor fish. Food was exquisitely prepared & very different in our dining experience. It was a very unique experience!
Unlike any restaurant dining experience I've ever had. Dinner was more in line with a meditation session or tea ceremony. In fact, I suggest meditating before coming here in order to quiet your palate to better appreciate the spirit of the food. I look forward to bringing my tea monk friend here next time he visits.
I was looking forward to experience Shojin cooking so we ordered the Omakase. Overall the food and service were just okay and not worth the high cost of the meal.
It's the best vegetarian food I've ever had. Also, I do appreciate how quiet the atmosphere was.
Excellent taste and service. They do provide real Japanese food and service. Highly recommend.
Exceptional experience !!!
Amazing place, high quality, high service, unique, elegant, chic, quiet !!!
A must go if you want to experience some Japanese food.
Everything at this restaurant is delicious. Keep in mind that the menu changes due to seasonal ingredients and everything comes in a set menu. There are two kinds of sets: Hana and Omakase. I would suggest going for the Hana set because it will give you less food whereas for the Omakase, the set is the same as Hana, but a few dishes more. Highly recommended!
It was fantastic!
This was an unbelievable dining experience worth every penny. Delicious, exotic, unfamiliar flavors. Stellar presentation and service. What they offer is very unique very special. Without a doubt the best vegan food I've eaten in my life.
Eclectic outstanding cuisine in a quiet beautiful setting served with excellent service.
Great as always was a New Years experience with New Years black bean.
Great seasonal food cooked to perfection and with attention to detail. Always a wonderful experience dining there.
One of my very favorite Vegan restaurants in NYC. A must try for special occasions and when you wanted to spoil yourself, a date or significant other!!
This is vegan paradise. The food is wonderful, even for a confirmed steak and potatoes type such as myself. Their are two tasting menus, I strongly advise getting the six course not the ten course option. The additional courses are extra desserts and an overly filling rice course, you'll be full after six courses.
This place is lost on me - we did the $125 10 course menu and I can honestly say only two courses tasted of anything. Bland and boring. The acoustics upstairs are also awful - we were sat next to a loud table and couldn’t hear ourselves think. Waste of time and money. The staff however are lovely and very attentive
Dazzling array of vegan dishes, each so complex and carefully prepared, so delicious and special. Loved the handmade pottery and little flavored tea to start. A beautiful dinner. Ambiance might be slightly too minimalist- one or two more decorations ?
Beautiful and delicious food, perfectly clean and good for vegans! loved it!
Beautiful experience, beautiful food, beautiful service, in a beautiful place.
Food is gimmicky; nothing to recommend about it.
A new chef would help a lot.
Unbeatable food, serene zen environment, incredible service!
My niece's dietary choice is to be Vegan so I took her here on our New York trip. It was a wonderful experience for us both.
It is a very special place to have vegan meal and Japanese specialties. We love this restaurant. Have brought non vegetarians that love the restaurant.
Second time here and gonna check this place every season. Fantastic service and food.
Incredibly traditional Buddhist monk inspired cuisine. Shojin Ryouri is heightened to another level of class and delicacy.
Kajitsu is unlike any other restaurant. It is unique in that the menu is changed monthly and prepared in accordance with the season and Japanese monk principles. The food is a work of art visually - like nothing you've seen before. The food tastes amazing. Do not let the small servings fool you because there are so many courses in the preset menu that you will be very full. The service is impeccable - respectful, polite, patient yet efficient. I highly recommend Kajitsu, especially when you need a special moment for yourself or with others.
For me too much food and I didn’t get the concept on the booking site. I had wanted the sister restaurant downstairs.
As an Japanese native, I can tell you this is the best Japanese restaurant I know of in the US. We tried Omakase course. Every dish was excellent and beautifully presented. It was so much like an art piece that I hesitated to break with chopsticks. I especially liked Tempura with Sansho source. The menu changes for season, so you can taste different food every season.
Everything was extremely good.
