Loved every minute of this restaurant. The food was like artwork, highly delicious and celebratory of every single ingredient that was inside each meal. Such meticulous care thought was put into it.
Exceptional vegetarian omikase meal. Was interested to see if it could be done and it was. Very well. Recommend it highly for the experience and the food. Be forewarned on expense. At least $400 for two. So, again, you do it for the experience, not everyday dining. Service was very good w explanations on all the courses and sake samplings. Dining room small and austere w a ‘Japanese design vibe.’ That part could use some work but was still additive not distractive to the experience. Thumbs-up

We appreciated the overall ambience of the restaurant. It was calm and serene, as opposed to most rowdy/noisy spots. Service was exceptional from the point of reservation on. Staff was considerate about carefully noting allergies, and adjusted the menu accordingly. The variety and presentation of all the dishes was impressive. We went here for Valentine's, and I would recommend to others; however, I probably wouldn't recommend to non-vegans, as the cuisine is specifically tailored to that crowd. Otherwise, it was really a unique and enjoyable experience.
My partner and I came here for our anniversary and enjoyed an excellent 10 course meal. The food and the service were exceptional. Unfortunately we were pressed for time towards the end of the meal and needed to rush out which felt unfair to the staff. They were very accommodating and treated us very well.
The first word that comes to mind is "exquisite". The creativity and execution of the chef is hard to describe. Each course brought a new taste and visual surprise and was described in detail by our server. My dining companion and I each did the sake pairing which was also a new experience since we do not know sake. It was a good way to learn but I will probably not do that on my next visit. Amazing in every way!!
While the food was good, our experience was average at best. I would recommend it for for the food if you are looking for a very different flavor profile.
Not the ambience. The table next to us had a group who we’re having a good time. The tables were close to each other and there was no noise absorption. This led to them sounding loud. And we were stuck for over 2.5h with them next to us.

Kajitsu provides an unparalleled experience in Shojin cuisine and dining. The food was plated and prepared with exactness, and the staff was knowledgeable when we asked questions and informative when we were not asking. Delicious courses, gorgeous presentation and peaceful ambiance. This was a "Once in a Lifetime" experience for us, and we were delighted to have the opportunity to dine at Kajitsu.

An exquisite experience of Shojin Ryori. Bringing out the best in each vegetable with care, every dish is magical. From the taste to presentation, Kajitsu is wonderful. "Vegan" has a reputation for using a lot of processed items to make them taste or feel like meat, or a lot of dishes are fried. Kajitsu is not that at all, it is about using fresh vegetables and making them come alive. Whatever your dietary desires, Kajitsu is a must for every eater.
The service was outstanding. Nice vegan dishes with sesame and yuzi flavors. No garlic; no onions. I love it. The garlic and onion smell stink, in my personal opinion. This restaurant is full of pleasant and sweet aroma from their sesame and yuzi ingredients.The deco is low key without unnecessary flashy decorations. A Japanese girl, probably a chef, came out and bowed afterwards which was really touching. It was just that one waiter probably didn’t realize he was so loud when he was introducing courses to each table. During the dine duration of over an hour the whole small restaurant was lingering with his continuous repetitive loud introduction to different customers. That being said, it was a great experience to try Japanese shojin cuisine in NYC.

Dining at Kajitsu is always an incredible experience. Beautiful, delicious, nourishing food that highlights the flavors of each seasonal ingredient. The sake pairing is always fun! Can’t wait to come back and experience a different seasonal menu.
The Ozoumi and Osechi box were standout dishes. Every course was truly delicious. I also absolutely loved the fried taro with truffle - the waitress grated the truffle at the table. Attention was paid to every detail in the food and service. It was clear to see each part of each vegetable was used in several dishes. Waiter and waitress were extremely knowledgeable. And helpful and understanding when I was not certain whether to drink or use chopsticks or both for a dish. Before the meal they checked for any questions or allergies about the meal. It was truly an amazing and extremely memorable meal. Thank you~

What a wonderful way to ring in the new year! Our special dinner at Kajitsu was perfect - amazing flavors, beautiful presentation and top-notch service. We'll be back for my birthday in a few months for sure!

Love the deep cultural connection of this food with Buddhist tradition, showing inventiveness and reverence for the gifts of nature. Each dish an intense concentration of attention on seasonal foods, interesting textures, beautiful but not showy. If you love ceramics you will be in pure heaven thanks to the array of beautiful plates, bowls, tiny dishes, teaware used to serve.

My girlfriend and I have been to restaurants throughout the world, we've tried many cousins from various cultures.
The atmosphere of the place was not welcoming even though the staff was nice. The interior is poorly designed. The menu consisted of 12 dishes for the price of $120 per person (not including sales tax nor tip, in case you're not from America). Some of the servers did an awful job explaining the dishes. We struggled to find any merit or good quality in the first three courses that consisted of oily and pretentiously simplistic soups, bland white rice, spinach with seaweed, and a disgusting combination of unflavored and awfully textured black sesame and tofu pudding between what I could only describe as pretty sacramental bread. Our optimism shattered as we dug into the beautiful plate that you see in the picture. My girlfriend described the taste of one of the components as "tap water from places where it’s consumption is ill-advised." The course had items that were either bland and tasteless or possessed unpleasant taste. Most of my partner's plates were removed, at best half-eaten, and at worst, barely touched. We were surprised that the chef didn't check on us or asked why his food wasn't eaten and returned. The rest of the courses were either uninteresting, disappointing, or blend. The noodle dish, that was the only filling one of the bunch, had the texture and appearance of regurgitation following a night of heavy champagne drinking. For the first time in my life, I left a Japanese restaurant feeling bad. A $4 hotdog from a street cart was tastier than any item on Kajitsu's December menu. This is either a con artist chef that fakes historical and rich cultural cuisine to exploit ignorant costumers or a type of culinary history that should have been buried long ago in history books and deserving of being unknown and unrecognized.

omakase vegan menu. always interesting, some dishes better than others, but a real treat for discovering veggies made in various ways and packed with flavors. Stellar service conscientious to help you understand best way to enjoy each dish. Counter could use some additional charm even if the minimalist aesthetic is appropriate.

Lauded as exotic and creative vegan I came with friends and all epic foodies. I was only vegetarian but figured great food is great food. Wow... what a surprise as this place fails on so many levels. I was literally in Tokyo last month and this place tries to provide an experience but at the end of the day it is all about the food. Presentation was beautiful but it has to taste good. 10 flavorless courses !! All with similar textures, colors and they did not build flavor profiles. Lots of miso based broth. Crazy overpriced wine list. 2 cheaper wines sold out forcing us over $200 per bottle. Dinner took 3 hours and service is excellent but atmosphere is spartan and flat in color and just uninspired. Seems i matches the food!!! They must make 80% profit on cabbage. So disappointed!!’
Very disappointed.. food was bad, cancelled half the menu. Still charged full price. Wasted 500 $. Can’t recommend this place. Hard to see how they got the Michelin star
