Service was awful. Food was mediocre and very overpriced. The hotel told us that the next day was the last day for the restaurant. That is very understandable in light of the experience that we had.

Excellent Sushi but service and ambience is severely lacking. The Ritz Carlton brand name normally delivers high quality along with high prices, unfortunately that is not the case at Kai Sushi.

This place never disappoints! Best and freshest sushi on Maui. It is rumored to be closing soon. That is a bad idea! Get it while you can.

It was a good meal but not outstanding, the trip from Kaanapali is an expensive cab ride round trip. Also, told them it was my wife's birthday but they didn't do anything for her. I would go back for happy hour and if I was staying at the Ritz or had a car but not if I had to take a cab because the extra $60 round trip isn't worth it. Fight On!

Go to Sansei!
Kai offers very fresh sushi & sushimi; if you are looking for an experience that offers more options & a more exciting experience Sansei is the place!

Overpriced and not very good. Typical "upscale" hotel restaurant that doesn't deliver on the promise. Avoid and go to Sensei

We had a very special time at Kia. The staff made our 20th Anniversary meal really special by providing excellent service and a special off menu dessert. The sushi was fresh, tasty and presented well. We would go again.

Sushi was delicious, shrimp tempura was amazing. Torched salmon roll was the best salmon roll I've ever had. So fresh, I thought the valrhona chocolate taste box was a little over rated though unfortunately.
Overall great experience on my honeymoon. We will be back.

Food was horrible! Portions were cut by an amateur chef using a serrated knife. Would not recommend going there. Way over priced for the lack of quality fish.

Fish is always above expectation here. Best sashimi on the planet. Had not tried dessert before but the "chocolate box" was subpar. The mango custard was delightful (made up for the "fruitcake flavor" chocolate). Cocktails were original and worthwhile (cucumber vodka YES).

The bar and restaurant is right next to the staging area of the hotel where people wait with their luggage to leave. One of the sushi dishes was wonderful. The tuna, however, was mushy and left me wondering about its freshness. As expensive as it was, I have had much better sushi stateside. Overall, a disappointment.

We came for happy hour and enjoyed the peppers and lumpia to start. We had several happy hour rolls (Kai and rainbow) as well as the sashimi combo platter which was generous in portion and so fresh! Our custom drinks were so refreshing. We were surprised with a lovely mango pudding. Spectacular!!!!! Mahalo to Lania and our chef.

We were staying nearby and wanted to check out the Ritz. First, we had great cocktails in the loung, watched the sunset ceremony, then moved to the sushi bar. This was a very quite night as a large inhouse group were all at a plated dinner, leaving us to enjoy the quiet and great service. I agree with other comments, the quality of product is what shines through. Certainly not inexpensive, but we had a lovely evening and will come back when in the area.

Like others we felt the sushi was only average and for the price and being a Ritz location we expected a lot more. Our home town sushi restaurant was much better. Service was good though.

The venue is comfortable with an awesome view of the Ritz grounds and Ocean.
We were seated at a table for two between two other larger group tables but it felt like we were in our own little space.
Food was awesome . We had ahi poke appetizer , a chefs special of yellow fin with jalapeños and also a plate with 3 different sushi. All great.

We ate here on two occasions on our last trip to Maui. Excellent fresh fish that never faltered in its quality. That, right away, makes or breaks a Japanese restaurant.
The service was very nice, not overly expert, but very pleasant.
Tempura of asparagus, maui onion and shrimp was amongst the best you could get anywhere. Yum!!!

We found the nigiri and sushi rolls to be well executed and high quality. The tempura was also light and delicious. The service staff was friendly and efficient. We had been to Sansei previously because of rave reviews. The quality and execution here is much higher.

The best sushi On Maui. One of the best anywhere. We have been eating sushi for around 20 years, and have dined at dozens of Japanese restaurants in the US, and several in Japan. Kai sushi is hands down in a class by itself. To start with, they get the best quality fish. That is a prerequisite for sushi, and is not the case for the vast majority of restaurants. Like everything in life, there are different grades of fish, and Kai must be demanding the Freshest and highest quality. The chefs are outstanding. Frankly, we've never seen better. It goes beyond skill and technique, which they are masters of. It comes down to pride and perfection in creating dining delights. The staff is super friendly, knowledgeable about Japanese food, drinks, etc, and the service is fantastic. The restaurant is well done with comfortable seating and amazing views. We could not more strongly recommend this outstanding dining experience.
