Kachina Southwestern Grill Ratings and Reviews
Love the decor. Server was pleasant and kind, sought answers for questions they did not have the answers to. Free kid meal adds a great value to this place, and makes it affordable to go out as a family. Wish there was a gf kid menu option. Would prefer if "Three Sisters" dish was still prepared the old way. Food was wonderful as always. Thank you for making this a family friendly place.
My wife and I like this restaurant for its value and innovative food. Kachina advertises itself as southwestern, and I'd say that is spot on: the food is not Tex-Mex (what most Americans call "Mexican"), nor does it resemble pan-Mexican or regional cuisines south of the border. It's kind of its own thing, a fusion of American, Mexican, and in particular New Mexican culinary traditions. The heat here is mostly of the background variety, vs sharp notes of spiciness. I find traditional go-to's like salsa to be really fresh-tasting, and different from what you find at most restaurants. I haven't ever *not* enjoyed everything I've ordered here, including the drinks, which are reasonably priced and well-made. Don't skimp on desert, they are really surprising, and I've had things that remind me of deserts I've had before, but are always sufficiently different to be unique and interesting, on top of delicious.
Don't let the hotel setting fool you: once your in the door (which is a bit hard to find at first), you'll forget you're at the Westin. The outdoor patio is really nice spring through fall, but the indoor space is nice, with complementary lighting and views of the kitchen. It can get a bit loud on a crowded night, so be prepared, but most of our meals here have been at a conversational tone, and when it has gotten loud, we've been offered different tables by the management.
Very good food. But be sure to ask how spicy the dish is. I love spicy but some meals are downright hot which might be a problem for some. So be sure to ask. Their tacos are so good I crave them! Green chili is excellent (but, again, it can be hot). The Casa Greens is a delicious, light salad. Shrimp and waffles are good.
Server brought wrong food and argued with us about it. I asked if cilantro (allergy) was an ingredient in dish I selected (it wasn’t listed) and was told the kitchen was too busy for special orders. I chose the only vegetarian dish on the menu so hoped it would not contain cilantro. The server did not ask the chef, but took out the main ingredient and served me a Navajo tortilla with onion and avocado - no calabaza at all. It took an hour and 15 minutes to get our entrees. When we pointed out my husbands dish was the wrong one and mine was an onion taco, he argued with us. Will never go back. Too bad, as we have enjoyed several other visits there. They took half the cost of the meal off but we didn’t care about the money - we expect the correct food, answers to our questions and adequate service.
I used to enjoy this restaurant however this trip was the worst ever. I had made the reservations a week in advance party of 7. And the waitress acted like we were such a huge party and couldn't give us the time of day. Ordered vegetables to go with the guacamole appetizer was charged $3 for those and they didn't even come until we were halfway through our meal because the waitress blamed it on the staff that this is not something that they normally provide. Then one of the guests in my party was never even brought her food the waitress again didn't even put the order in. Nice her food did come - it was sitting in a pool of oil.For drinks I ordered a club soda with lime there was no lime for the drinks and the waitress never came back to even check to see if we needed anything until we were almost completely done with our meal. I ordered a bison taco salad which I'd never ordered and it was a bison sandwich with layers of tortilla. I am on a gluten free diet so I had to scrape what little bison there was onto the salad. Very very poor service not sure if she was the only waitress on for that day but I had made the reservations for 12:30 when the lunch crowd would be hopefully over- would think the restaurant would properly staff they place of business.
First time at Kachina. It should be noted the food was really spicy, so keep that in mind before making plans. The service was really poor. They forgot our food. We went straight from appetizers to dessert menus. For the inconvenience the server told us food was compliments of the chef only to present us with a bill upon getting up to leave. A manager and a server gave weak apologies as we were in the restaurant over 2 hours not due to the ambiance.
This was my first time to dine at Kachina. Made reservations for a first date. My date had previously dined and had recommended Kachina over the other option offered.
For my part, the experience was excellent; good food , drinks and pleasant ambiance. The staff and service was great.
I will definitely not hesitate, and look forward to another opportunity, to dine at either location again.
We went here before a movie for my husbands birthday and had a great early dinner. My only negative feedback would be when my husband and son who is 12 tried to sit at the bar, the bartender very rudely said “he can’t sit there” he could have said this differently. When I walked in from using the bathroom, my husband was very upset and we almost left because of it.
We came into reserve a specific table for New Year's Eve, and we're assured by the hostess and a gentleman who seems to be managing that day, that we were set for the table we wanted on NYE.
When we arrived, our chosen table was occupied, and we were told by a different hostess that we would NOT be able to be seated at our requested table. So we we're disappointed at the dismissal of our original request. Please don't promise things you can't guarantee.
Below average bloody Mary’s we were told were amazing at $11 each. We don’t mind paying for good bloodys but again not very good and did not even finish because not enjoyable. The smoked salmon was good. This place was convenient being attached to our hotel and getting double points feasting at this restaurant but other than those points, not very impressed. We were there three times in the 48 hours in the area and dinner experience was not much better.
I love the food here! For my third visit, I had the pork tacos, and they were awesome! My girlfriend got the shrimp dish and she said it was absolutely wonderful! The service was great, and the prices are very reasonable. I always make a reservation, and highly recommend you do, too!
The food was horrible and the service was worse. We started with sangria. It tasted like it's been sitting out for a week. We ordered bison empanadas. My husband took a bite and nearly broke his tooth on a huge olive pit (we think). We let our server know and he didn't seem to care. He talked to the kitchen and they said it was a walnut and they were not sure why it was in there. First of all, it was very clearly not a walnut and second of all it's concerning that they don't seem to care if random ingredients get mixed in. I ordered the chicken enchiladas. I know they have lots of cheese, but they were literally floating in an inch of grease. Absolutely disgusting. We then ordered the beignets to try and salvage the meal. After waiting 25 minutes, we asked our server to cancel the order. He asked if we wanted him to remove them from our bill. Why would we pay for them? They never came. The whole experience was a disappointment and we will not be back.
Went for lunch. Everyone liked their meals. Two had trout, one torts and a four pack with drink, salad, pork green chili, and Navajo taco. Nice atmosphere and tasty food with a little different twist. I have been there several times and is always a favorite.
Food and service were exceptional! We have had dinner there several times over the last few years and it has always been good. But, for thanksgiving they knocked it out of the park. The service was spot on and the flavors were the main event. Serving sizes were just right since the goal was to try everything that was included on the days menu.
Had family in town for Thanksgiving and we decided to dine out. Found Kachina through an online search and checked the reviews. This restaurant is fantastic and the Thanksgiving meal was more than we expected. The food was delicious and plentiful. Service was fantastic as well. This may be a new annual tradition for my family.
Thanksgiving--could not get a reservation for 3 later than 11:15, yet restaurant was still quite empty at 12:30, so unsure why are service was less than expected. We received appetizers before the drinks. Then when one of the drinks was wrong, it took another ten minutes to get the correct drink. (no compensation or apology for this mistake) All food was brought family style to the table with no utensils to serve. Scooping cheesy dip with a fork is difficult and then having to use a personal, dirty fork to take beef and turkey from the serving platter is un-sanitary. The main food was tasty and unique, but the desserts could have used some ice cream or whipped cream. I would consider happy hour on their open courtyard, but I doubt I'll be back for dinner.
We went to Kachina Grill for Thanksgiving dinner. It was fabulous. The 4 course menu had a southwestern theme, and we enjoyed each of the courses. Our server, Nancy, was very friendly, and looked after us throughout the meal. The décor is appropriate for the type of restaurant. We will be back!
We ate here for Thanksgiving. Overall a delicious meal, however I would not recommend it for children unless they are the type of kids that eat anything. Our daughters 4 and 7 nibbled the corn chips, ate the apples off the salad and a bit of turkey for $12 each child. No other food options were available, not even rice or plain pasta. Also, it was served family style with the food already dressed, so adding gravy over the stuffing and potatoes was impossible. Same with the cranberry sauce. If you want cranberry sauce, but no pork, you're scraping it off the pork. Our server said it wasn't possible to get sauces or gravy on the side. The desserts were delicious, particularly the bourbon pumpkin pie. Nice ambiance, cozy feel with the fireplace and a beautiful outdoor area.
We are regulars at Kachinas, but the service has been going downhill rapidly. We stuck with it because they had Kids Eat Free on the weekends, so it was helpful. Yesterday, we were told by the manager that they no longer do kids eat free. But, when I mentioned that to them on FB that we were disappointed that got changed, they responded that kids do, in fact, eat free. Now, I am angry. The food isn’t worth the bad service and the management not having their act together. Sorry Kachinas, you lost customers yesterday.
Our food did not arrive after 45 minutes. The server did not check in to let us know what was happening until we asked. No plausible explanation was provided. The manager came out 50 min later, which does not strike me as great customer service despite the fact that they offer to pack our food.
Food at Kachina has drawn me back again and again but this was my first breakfast with them. My associate and I decided to share the 3 egg omelet with potatoes -- all good -- and blueberry pancakes that were probably the best I have ever had (and I pride myself on my own blueberry pancakes). They were amazing! Kachina has never disappointed me!
