I went there with family for my son's b-day. They had private party, so we got our table in the side room. It was extremely cold in there. Our waiter was taking forever and didn't have much experience. Food was very late and we had to call for every dish we have ordered. Our soup was late, our appetizers were late, and my mom , an older lady, didn't get her food with us. She received it almost when we were done with our food which made us very uncomfortable. Also, I wasn't told about yellow banana hot paper in my dish, so most of the dinner I was trying to get that fire out of my mouth. I didn't feel the taste of any other food after that. Thanks God, once my mom received her plate, she was alarmed on time, so we got it out of her plate. The waiter thought that was very funny. Our diner some how was overpriced, (we received more rice dishes than we asked for, but I was too tired to argue about my check... This was my 5th visit to that restaurant, and I don't think I will go there again after being charged so much for 6 dishes, and being served by the worst waiter ever.
Great food and ambiance. It’s a great family dining experience.
Visited here with a group of friends for my birthday. The restaurant was beautiful and clean, and a lovely welcoming ambiance. The staff were courteous and prompt, brought us glasses an ice bucket to chill wine immediately. The appetizers came out very fast, and were a great way to start our meal. Our dinners were delicious, and generous portions means another meal (or two!) of leftovers. A friend brought a cake and they kept it chilled, then brought it out with candles lit, with a knife and extra plates. Complimentary tea to accompany our dessert. I will definitely come here again!
Superb service. The food is amazing.
We went to this place for the first time after reading all the google reviews. However, it was a disappointing experience. The food portions were small, there was an item called lamb stack kabab for $26- what we received was couple of lamb pieces- I think there were 4 small ones. There was also a musty smell in the restaurant. Overall we’re out about $160 and very disappointed to spend our time there, and since we drove from Carol stream it was a very long drive back with regrets.
Excellent food and service
We went for my mother's birthday and my parents both loved it. The restaurant is very clean, very nicely done, and lovely decor without being too fancy. You can go for a casual meal and dine in comfort, with great service, lovely presentation, and nice surroundings. Quiet enough to have a conversation even though almost all the tables in the large room were filled (and it was a Wednesday evening). We are all vegetarian and vegan, and there were LOTS of very tasty options. We don't eat meat but it said on the menu that the meats they use are organic. Our 8 year old son was with us as well, and the food was a bit spicy for him.
We eat at Kabul House & always enjoy the experience. The food is delicious & plentiful, people are nice & serve us well and their new location in Evanston is airy & pleasant. Five stars. we will be back.
Excellent Afghan food, one of the top Chicago area spots that I take out of town guests to. Maybe the #1 Halal food spot as well.
We have been to Kabul restaurant several times and every time the Food and Service has been excellent. Very friendly staff and tasty Afghan dishes. Specially the Sultani is my favorite.
Place was closed with air conditioning issues when we got there. No word from the restaurant before arrival to give us a heads up. Shoddy service from an otherwise excellent place.
Not Authentic Afghan Dishes and they didn’t have many of the Afghan dishes on their menu. I wouldn’t bother going anymore. Its very expensive and not worth it.
Un-Professional owner and the waiter wasn’t familiar with the dishes.
It was total waste of time and money. Un-happy customers.
The restaurant was packed, so much so we didn’t get seated until 30 minutes after our reservation. It was a shame because I love the food here and it made the night stressful for my party on my graduation night.
Consistently great food with authentic middle eastern tastes and spices.
This is our second time there.. we all liked our appetizers
2 didn’t like what they ordered and 2 didn’t
Great service and tasty food in a pleasant atmosphere.
Found the place to be very inviting. Very comfortable waiting area almost like sitting in my living room. The food was authentic and quite tasty. Our server was warm, hospitable and very accommodating. Overall a very enjoyable time was had by all.
Food was amazing!!!
LOVE Kabul House! We have been going to this restaurant since they had a small Afghan/pizza place in Evanston -- many years ago. Food is always fantastic! Love that they have moved to a new larger location -- and definitely seem to be thriving. Large portions -- you can bring your own wine with a small corkage fee. Definitely recommend it.
I have been here 5 times, twice at its previous Skokie location. The ambiance is clean and posh. The service is highly attentive and communicative. Though I am not an expert the food seems authentic, true or not, the food is very good and served in generous portions. The dessert menu has about 8 items but all delicious. I would go more often but I am an hour away. Highly recommended. A fav.
Good ambience and excellent food. Slow service at times.
Service was extremely poor. They kind of forget about you after serving food. They gave us one small basket of bread with cold bread which was not sufficient for 8 people. We had to go find a waiter to bring us desert and more bread. It was over priced, food was good but could be better.
Good food and thoughtful attentive service although so busy they did the best they could. Manager very smart to customer comfort. Be prepared for a wait on weekends but worth it!.
Our waiter was extremely nice and very attentive. He was very polite and made nice conversation with a few jokes here and there. Overall a very nice evening with good food.
The food was great but we had a reservation and still had to wait 50 minutes for table. They seemed overwhelmed at times. We have been there before and it's been better.
Great food, a little tight.
The meal was great! Will definitely go back
Enjoyed a family dinner. Wonderful food and service
It’s always a wonderful experience. The staff are great. Gerber the waiter is excellent. We had a party of 9, two of the guest have severe food allergies and one of our guest is a vegan. Everything went excellent without any issues. Definitely I will be returning and recommending Kabul house to friends and family.
Although we had eaten at their previous location in Skokie, this was our first time eating at the Kabul House in Evanston. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We loved the decor, the open feel, and the natural light in their new space. The staff was very accommodating, allowing us to switch tables to one near a window so a young child with us could look out, and when that child fell asleep mid-meal, let him nap on a sofa within view of our table so his parents could finish their meal. The food was excellent, and so was the service. Several people besides our waiter checked to see if we were enjoying our food or if we needed anything. We had a coupon from Chicago North Shore Restaurant month, and the restaurant accepted it without giving us any problem. Finally, it was only steps from their parking lot to the front door, which was very convenient since we dined there on a rainy day. We talked about returning to the restaurant the next day to try other items on the menu. I guess that says a lot!
I've eaten at Kabul House twice in their present location and found the food very good and reasonably priced. The food is a little exotic, but familiarly so. It is not especially spicy (which is good for me), except for a couple of sauces that are available. Someone at our table wanted more spice in his vegetarian plate, and I don't think the server knew too well how to accommodate that. He brought some cooked peppers to the table, although they were not hot peppers. Later they were able to communicate about a certain kind of sauce my friend was looking for, and then they brought that and it was fine, just a little late. For me, their food is just right and very interesting.
We've watched Kabul House evolve over the years from a small spot to a moderate-sized place in Skokie to a truly lovely venue with a bigger menu in this custom-rehabbed restaurant in Evanston. It's a success story, largely due to the consistently delicious food. The newest iteration has several different areas, perfect for private parties or events. We're thrilled that they are open once again and recommend their cuisine to anyone curious about Afghani food.
We’ve been there a handful of times and will continue to come back. Love the food and the service is wonderful. Great place!!!
Friendly service, delicious, healthy food that offers something for every taste...vegetarian, seafood, and meat preferences. Must try all the appetizers, especially the pumpkin and eggplant dishes.
Love this place - so glad that its just as good if not better not moved to bigger premises. Highly recommend this - Chicken kebob is out of this world. Also great selection of appetizers for sharing. Also like the BYOB so very good value night out.
First time having Afghan cuisine and it was delicious, particularly the cardamom-infused tea and the mantoo, aushak, and vegetarian platter. The kabuli palau was also good, but the flavors and construction of the other items were more bright and interesting. We also got a couple of the rose water and pistachio custards for dessert and I thought they were a light and lovely finish to the meal.
Food was wonderful. Service was friendly, though a little slow. Lovely interior.
Good food and service. Need more parking.
Kabul House is a wonderful, authentic Afghani restaurant. Fantastic options for vegetarians.
