About Kabul House
Kabul House offers a taste of appetizing Afghan dishes that have existed in the history of Afghanistan for thousands of years. Our restaurant emphasizes high quality Afghan food, as if prepared from the fingers of any Afghan mother. Our extensive full course menu includes lamb, seafood, beef & chicken dishes as well as vegetarian specialties that include pumpkin, eggplant, spinach & other fresh vegetable options. Our menu hosts a large variety of selections fit for anyone, from vegetarians to meat lovers alike. In most of our recipes, a limited amount of fresh spices & seasonings are used to season the dish in order to create a sensational taste that is not too overwhelming. This makes our Afghan cuisine very enjoyable for anyone & everyone. The atmosphere we provide for our patrons is one of which would be produced in our homes, relaxing, invitingly warm & unforgettable. We could go on & on claiming how exquisite our foods are, but we invite you to come & taste for yourself.

Kabul House Ratings and Reviews
First time having Afghan cuisine and it was delicious, particularly the cardamom-infused tea and the mantoo, aushak, and vegetarian platter. The kabuli palau was also good, but the flavors and construction of the other items were more bright and interesting. We also got a couple of the rose water and pistachio custards for dessert and I thought they were a light and lovely finish to the meal.
What a fantastic evening and it is BYOB so that made an even better evening. From walking in the door and being greeted by a very, very friendly hostess, to Gerber our waiter who was totally one of the best and then having great appetizers, fantastic food and finishing off with an amazing dessert....Chocolate Fudge Cake (and that alone will bring me back !!).
Thanks for a great evening everyone....and already planning another visit to celebrate a friends Birthday !!
They seated us right near the serving counter, thus it was hot and the servers would keep coming behind us to take xtra plates etc which was pretty disturbing.
There was also a leak from the ceiling behind us. Ideally they should have closed off that section but they made us sit there which I was not happy about.
I love the restaurant and the food otherwise!
This restaurant was amazing when it was in a strip mall on Dempster. After a move to downtown Skokie they expanded back to Evanston into the former "Chicken and Waffles" restaurant. It has amazing food- the rice so well spiced, the varied meats tender, the salads and hummos and Afgan bread amazing. My favorite is the dumplings- order 2!
Terrible service we were there for at least an hour and a half and our food was not served. It took 40 minutes for the waiter to take out main order and that was after we complained. As we were leaving an hour and a half after we arrived our main enter was not ready and were told that it will be another 10 minutes for it to be ready. At this point we had no patience for this place. Not coming back.
Overall I'd give Kabul House 5 out of 5 stars. Why? Because of the tasty food, friendly service, and reasonable prices.
Firs, the food is amazingly flavorful. Familiar (like Greek or Middle Eastern food), but distinct and unique.
Second, the service is friendly and professional. From the host at the door to our waiter Dusan who took such great care of us that I'm sure to come back!
Third, it's a reasonable price for the huge portions and classy atmosphere.
All in all, a great time.
We wanted to try something different. We read the reviews and decided to give it a try. It was a wonderful way to end our stay in Chicago! Our server was very friendly, and informative, about the food and gave great suggestions. Portions were big...we wished we could have brought our leftovers back with us during our traveling! Definitely recommend this place on Dempster!
Beautiful presentation, delicious flavors and lovely atmosphere. The new restaurant location creates an atmosphere that makes you feel like you are eating outside on a pretty patio when, in reality, you are indoors. Our server was very informative, helpful and even comedic! Highly recommend this place for a more unique dining experience. We will definitely be coming back!
We love Kabul House which serves traditional Afghan cuisine. It's a real go-to restaurant. The food is delicious and so different from the multitudinous Middle Eastern options. Our grandchildren insist on going there whenever they visit from out of town. Be sure to try the aushak, mantoo and the pumpkin dishes. BYO - can't beat it.
I absolutely loved this place. Absolutely everything was the best thing I've ever tasted. The vegetarian platter was to die for and the chicken kabob really is the best chicken you will ever eat. To top it all off, the hospitality is second to none and well above what I would expect out of a restaurant. I felt like I was in a friend's house eating their mother's cooking. Truly outstanding. I wish I lived in the area, I would eat here every week!!
I know I speak for all six of us who dined here when I say Kabul House would rate as one of our Top Ten restaurants. Service was prompt and friendly. All of our questions about ingredients were answered plus we learned about new, interesting spices. Servings were generous. Food was delicious! For six of us, we ordered three each of appetizers, entrees, and desserts and shared family-style. Perfect! No alcohol, but it wasn't missed with all the wonderful flavors exciting our palettes.
Kabul House provided me with one of the best dinners I have had in the Skokie area. Amazing options for vegetarians and meat lovers. I can not emphasize enough the outstanding quality of the food. Reasonably priced, and it is BYOB., with a cork fee of only $2/person. I will definitely be back.
If you are a fan of Indian food and Middle Eastern cuisine, Afghani food should be on your list, and Kabul House does it very well. The ingredients and spices meld these together as seamlessly as the geography does. Food is tasty and freshly prepared, and the service is friendly and helpful. Vegetarian choices are available and quite delicious, especially the soups. Give them a try.
