Kabuki Japanese Restaurant - Tempe Ratings and Reviews
Visited Kabuki while staying in the area on a business trip for a Sunday dinner with a friend. Fun atmosphere. Good sake selection - waiter made a great recommendation. Quickly filled up on small plate dishes (miso black cod was excellent) and rolled sushi. Service started out great but it took a while to find someone for the bill. Reasonable prices, will visit again when nearby.
The food was excellent, but the restaurant was dirty. The table was not properly cleaned before our seating. The walls were covered in grease and splatters. The glass partitions were also filthy and dusty. This really detracted from what would otherwise be a pleasant dining experience.
I will not recommend to anyone until I see that this location has been properly cleaned.
This is a young, hip place that would draw a new generation of such lovers. The plates (nigiri moriawase and sea food on hot stone grill) we had showed a new twist that deserves recognition. The wait staff, while genuinely polite and attentive, was young and not very knowledgeable with Japanese cuisine, especially sake. With a bit of staff training, this place could rise to the next level.
Kabuki did not honour my open table reservation, first not believing that I had one and then not believing that I had one at their branch, and then not believing the confirmation email that I showed them. Apparently they don't accept reservations on Friday and Saturdays.
They were very busy and the waitress asked me if I was done after I ate my appetizer. When I pointed out that my main had not yet arrived, but that I was supposed to get soup or salad, she rushed off and brought me soup shortly after the main arrived.
The food was sloppily made but tasted acceptable, although the raw fish was mushy in texture.
Popped in for a quick dinner with a friend before going to the theatre. Ordered miso soup, the pork belly, and a California roll. I figured the soup would appear first, but the pork belly did instead. Large pieces that were moist and flavorful. It was served over raw onions (they didn't really cook on the hot plate) with cilantro and sliced jalepenos sprinkled on top. The California roll and miso soup were good as well. Good service, wait staff were friendly.
For the price, I would have expected better food. While the menu offered a ton of options, the food did not match the decor. My fiancee's ramen broth looked like watered down soup. My Unagi Bowl took extra seasoning before I could eat it. I also requested no avocado as I am allergic to them. They put them in there anyway. My mom ordered the teriyaki chicken, which was apparently good. Sad that they offer so many options but really only nail the basic dishes.
It was extremely busy when we were there because it was ASU Graduation week and for the most part the service was very good until the end when we sat there for ~20' waiting for our bill. It could've been because it was so busy and it wouldn't deter me from trying it again. Food was excellent!
Whenever we go to Kabuki we order multiple dishes and everyone shares. The one dish we always return for is the Broiled Mussels. We spent several weeks on the east coast last year and we never found anything we liked better than this! We pair it with several small plates. Last time we tried the Crispy Brussels Sprouts which were delicious. We always have the Seaweed Salad, which has a great nutty flavor. When friends join us we add a large plate like the Black Cod and some of the wonderful sashimi. The Salmon is positively buttery. And the Tuna Poke is perfection. Add a crisp glass of wine or sake and lots of water for a special meal to share with friends and family. This is probably our favorite restaurant!
The sushi was amazing! Service was wonderful! We truly cannot say enough good things about our dinner here! We tried so many different rolls and they were all wonderful. We also had the tuna poke and that was delightful! We will be back next time we come to visit!
If you have not enjoyed this GREAT place, let me recommend two plates, the Dragon Roll … for flavor .. presentation .. and value! The Kabuki roll had been recommended to us and it was also a GREAT plate with all the flavors and eye appeal that this restaurant is known for.
To start, this is a Japanese Restaurant not a Japanese Steakhouse. The menu is huge with a wide variety of excellent dishes. The beef sukiyaki is one of my favorites along with the seafood soup. All the sushi we had was excellent too. The lunch specials were excellent and a great value. We had the asian beef short ribs with tempura veggies and salad. Service is a little slow but manageable. We have always been happy with our overall experience here. I highly recommend it.
The sushi at this place is fantastic, but if you don't like sushi? That's okay! They have plenty of other meal options that fit the whole family. This place is great if you are trying to watch your calories, plenty of healthy substitutions and their Happy Hour and Reverse Happy hour give you a lot of bang for your buck.
This is the third time to Kabuki and the food and service consistently delight. We had a 7 pm reservation. Our group of nine was greeted with smiles and immediately taken to our table. The server was friendly, efficient and managed our orders with perfection. Pricing is reasonable and food quality and cleanliness are top notch. Always a great experience.
This is the place to be if you are looking for the best selection of Sushi in Tempe. If you want fresh fish, good service and creative rolls for your meal, this is the place to go! Being an avid Sushi afficanado, having spent time on the docks in Tokyo, sushi school and dining every week, I'm a "non professional" expert when it comes to any matter involving "eating" and "sushi!"
