Kabuki Japanese Restaurant - Howard Hughes Center Ratings and Reviews
It's been awhile but different from what I remember. I was dying for sushi and green tea ice cream. It was my birthday and I wanted to do something before heading to work that night. First off, the center is under construction and we walked in circles trying to find a way to get to the restaurant. I was kinda bummed because I used to enjoy taking a walk through the promenade at night. So we finally get inside the restaurant only to see that the reservations weren't really necessary. The lady at the counter never even bothered to check. We're seated, ordered our food from a very unenthusiastic waiter. Hubby said he was pleased with his fried California rolls. My spicy tuna roll was ok. Wasn't crazy about the calamari. Before we could order dessert the waiter brought the bill! I had higher hopes for tempura bananas and ice cream. Not bad. Just not great. The highlight of my night was the much needed Bloody Mary and watching hubby struggling to learn how to use chopsticks. Maybe the construction work took away from the crowd and ambience. I don't know, but their staff definitely could use some help with morale!
The food was good aND the service was excellent. However, I've been spoiled by outstanding sushi so this is why I gave it an average rating. I've eaten at Midori and the sushi there is better for an all you can eat. But if you're bit trying to get too fancy then kabuki is good for you.
I ordered black cod that came in a small portion. Group next to me ordered the same. I mentioned it to my sever, name not on check as I ate at the bar, he just shucked me off to deal with a manager. That is poor service. He couldn't wait to not have any responsibility with any issue with food. Tiffany the Manager on duty has good service recovery. Took it off my bill. Excellent. Zen, cook - drenched the unigi with a too sweet sauce. Way to much. Jimmy and Nick were good at the bar. At the bar, all the waiters reach over you when they are picking up sushi orders. Very disruptive.
Always enjoy my experiences here. It's our go-to Japanese comfort food spot and we always order the combination plates with teriyaki and tempura. This time my father noticed right away that the portion size had gotten smaller since our last visit (in December) - there was one less shrimp and the vegetables were cut smaller and one was eliminated. The amount of teriyaki beef had decreased also. This was a game changer and will keep us from visiting as often. We'd rather the price went up rather than the portions (and value) cut.
My go-to for Japanese-style comfort food. There is something on the menu to please everyone: there are options for those that don't eat raw fish, don't eat fish at all, don't eat meat, eat only meat, vegetarians, vegans, want to dine at the sushi bar, prefer a table, etc. and the prices are in line for the portions. Kabuki also has the right energy for an occasion as well as a casual night out.
I have been dining at Kabuki for a few years now, this location seems to be better than others to me. I love the great tasting food and the prompt service. I really enjoyed the Chilean sea bass for dinner and I loved the fried green tea ice cream for dessert. It's a trendy sushi restaurant, so the prices are a little expensive but they have a happy hour menu with decent choices. Overall I like this place and would recommend it to family and friends.
I wanted a nice reasonable place for Japanese food for lunch for my birthday. My first time here. The location in the Howard Hughes Center was very convenient for me. The service was good ...I had a 1:30 pm reservation for lunch as I wanted to miss the main lunch time crowd. The menu was extensive and the food was excellent. My Tempura was crisp, Miso soup was delicious and the Terriaki beef and chicken was also very good. Nice portions for the price. My only complaint would be tables need to be cleaned better between sittings. I think mine was just brushed off and not really cleaned with a solution of any kind. At any rate for the food, price and location, I will definitely go back.
We had combination plates and sushi and sashimi salad. The selection of sushi warrants a comeback to try more! The specialty rolls had more than enough to share! The steak was tender and the sashimi salad was bountiful (could've used a bit more dressing). The tempura had many shrimp and vegetables. They had quite a selection of sake, but we chose our go to favorite beer tonight - Asahi Dry. Many tvs around for my husband to enjoy watching March Madness basketball. Food came out quickly too.
Service was plentiful = everyone helping each other.
I've been to this Kabuki location several times and the food and service has consistently been good. Once the orders have been placed our soup, edamame or other appetizers all arrive quickly. Entrees arrive at the right time and portions are a good value for the price. They offer the typical entrees and combo meals, sushi and noodles but have added more gourmet items and vegan dishes too. There's something to please everyone and for us it's become our go-to Japanese comfort food spot.
I was trying to find a great restaurant for my Mom's birthday on the way to The Forum. Kabuki was the perfect fit! The food was amazing and the service was fantastic. I would highly recommend this restaurant for any special occasion or dinner out with friends and family.
