Hawaii Regional Cuisine
What we serve at Ka‘ana, we serve from the heart. We source from local farmers, ranchers, and fishermen. We only put on your plate what we feel is proper to serve. Our pairings speak to the ability to connect the elements of taste, smell, and touch with everything around us.
Our dishes are prepared using techniques from around the culinary world, but thought-out in accordance with our micro-climate. The way we prepare our fish, season our salads, and grill our meat depends not only on its origin, but what the weather tells us, how the swells on the ocean shape our mood, and how the land influences our feelings.
Here we hope to blur the lines between your kitchen and our restaurant, between what is external and what is internal. We invite you in, share our hopes, and create a unique dining experience that connects you to this place and its essence.

We had the fish special which was Opah which I love if prepared properly. Unfortunately it was over cooked, resulting in a dry Opah, not even the excellent sauce could save it. Bottom was over caramelized which explains the results. Outdoor seating was very hot and humid. A simple fan to move air would have helped.

The service was great. The live music below the restaurant was so loud it made having a conversation difficult. The presentation of the food was nice, taste was was out of this world, but the portion were so small for the price. The portion size was great for a six year old.

We have been to Ka ana Kitchen in the past and always had a great meal. This time everything was over salted, portions have gotten smaller and prices have gone up. I would not recommend Ka ana anymore.

We are local residents down the road, travel often, and stay here often as Hyatt Globalists. We love KK for breakfast buffet, and have eaten there many times (great breakfast service by Nic, Luke, Jansen). Dinner is less satisfying. Food good but expensive ($44 for Fried Chicken!). Portions were small. We ate again at home a couple of hours later. Our server Chris' style did not match our tastes (our second experience with him). He was very loud and tightly wound up, as he was the time before. Did not make for a relaxing evening. We could hear him very loudly from across the room talking to other customers. When we said we were familiar with the menu and we knew what we wanted to order, he continued to give the whole schpiel anyway. His up-sell was off-putting. An example: he pressured the couple next to us to have more drinks and order more (they were polite and held firm); he asked their young child if he wanted more beverages, not the parents. Of course, the kid is going to say yes. It felt very manipulative to us. Back to the food, the Kampachi Crudo was like butter, melt in your mouth (as good as Morimoto sushi/sashimi, which we also love). The grilled octopus beautifully presented, delicious texture and combination of flavors. Again, fried chicken tasty but small portion for the expensive price.

We were staying at Andaz, and decided to try this restaurant. We found it to be quite unremarkable. The wine list did not impress me. The portions of the over-priced meals were very small. There were no special touches. Our waiter was good. The wagyu was perfectly cooked. Compared to Ko restaurant at Fairmont Hotel, which is very comparatively priced, Ka'ana let me down. No kama'aina discount, either. Ko had everything I expect for a fine dining experience in this price range, whereas Ka'aina Kitchen left me disappointed... and a little hungry.

It really was amazing. Our waiter was awesome, and made us feel special while still giving us time to talk (the perfect balance of being there but not being there if that makes sense?). The hostess at the front asked us what the occasion was as she seated us. We just mentioned it was our anniversary but didn't expect anything from that. When dessert came, the plate had "Happy Anniversary" lettered on it. Great communication between their team!

The food was incredible. I had the risotto and scallops, and my wife had the lobster. Both dishes were incredible, and we savoured every bite. I don't think I have ever had a perfect restaurant experience before, but this was it. Everything was perfect and I highly recommend this place. It is not cheap, but is definitely worth it!

While it was lovely to sit in that location, but the food was overpriced and only really "okay" as far as quality goes. The wine was insanely expensive and there were not options in the lower end. It would be something I would be more likely to recommend if they didn't charge so much.

My husband and I went there our last night in Maui. We were feeling lazy and went because we were generously given complimentary dessert and champagne for two since we were staying at the Andaz to celebrate our honeymoon. To be honest, Ka’ana Kitchen came up everywhere when you searched nice restaurants in Wailea, but I hadn’t heard a soul recommend it to us for a “special occasion” dinner.

But boy - I’m glad we were feeling lazy - it was one of the best dinners we had on the island! Everything we ate was really good, but the octopus and coconut sundae stood out, and the Wagyu entree was probably one of the best steak, let alone dishes, I have ever had. I can’t explain the flavor, but it was sublime, and the steak was perfectly cooked! As you might expect, prices are steep, but on par with prices elsewhere at nicer restaurants in Maui.

If you’re on the fence, go!! We’ll definitely remember the food and service we received on our special night.

Great location and concept but in the end didn’t quite come together. The food and service were both good but not something I would go back for. The glass of Dundee Hills Pinot was terrible (was it the bottle open too long I wonder). However the other Mezcal old fashioned was excellent and clearly the bartenders knee their game. I would go back for a drink but pass on the food.

In one word: Disappointing!
We were looking forward to dine at Ka’ana Kitchen, as many people raved about it.
Service was nice, food was just decent and nothing to rave or to write home about. Small for what you pay for (not surprising).
Kids’ lemonade is $9! A small glass with lots of ice and no refills. We came to terms with prices being extremely high in hotels and especially in Hawaii, but this is simply outrageous!
Yet again, overrated - overpriced hotel restaurant.
Save your money and eat at the restaurant at the pool. We enjoyed the food, the vibe, and the pricing much better.

The scallop dish I ordered had 3 overly cooked scallops that were extremely chewy. The 40is dollars spent was not worth it. The portions were small is well. I would not go back.

I was disappointed with this place. I expected an amazing meal. Service was great. But the food is missing flavor. Food was very fresh, ingredients great but the execution was off. Sashimi had an anchovy sauce that was way over the top. Very over powering and it killed the delicate flavor of the sashimi. Chef just needs to work on the flavor profiles and put it together better. The drinks were great though nice hand crafted cocktails.

Food and service were both excellent. Get a table outside if you can. A shared app and two entrees was actually enough, but we both ordered desserts anyway. We left stuffed. The octopus app was especially well done.

Server was very absent. He only stopped by long after we wanted to order food and never stopped by to check on us. Food was overpriced for the portions. Best Ahi I’ve ever had, but you only get three bites. Good views and ambiance. My wife and I are on our honeymoon and the server brought us glasses of champagne during dessert after we already finished a bottle of wine. We probably should have gotten the champagne before the meal and before we ordered a bottle of wine. You can do way better in Maui.

We often have brunch at Ka'ana Kitchen but hadn't had the pleasure of dinner until recently. Every dish was an incredible balance of flavor, texture and color from the intense watermelon salad combined with li hing maui, arugula, goat cheese and balsamic to the delicate Kona Kampachi and creamy risotto. There was even a dessert for gluten and dairy free diners that was NOT sorbet - a green tea coconut milk ice cream that might be the best ice cream I've ever tasted.

As a bonus, we were seated outside overlooking the lounge, pool and ocean so were treated to some lovely live music.

We'll be back!
