In 1979, when Chef Paul Prudhomme and his late wife, K, opened their "modest", 62-seat K-Paul’s Louisiana Kitchen on Chartres Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans, they had no idea the restaurant was soon to become a sensation, with nightly lines of eager diners waiting sometimes hours to be seated. That was back when and dining was community seating. In 1996, extensive renovations took place and now it offers seating for more than 200. Dining areas include seasonal balcony dining, an intimate climate-controlled courtyard for dining al fresco, K's Parlor private seating as well as open kitchens on both floors. K-Paul's accepts reservations and offers catering on-site or anywhere around the world.

K-Paul's Ratings and Reviews
It was perfect!! The food, the service, the surroundings could not have been better. Our server, Sheila, is the consummate professional. She is knowledgeable about the food products and makes the whole experience more memorable. The kitchen staff are very accommodating to special requests also. We have been to K-Paul’s many times and have never been disappointed. The Cajun martini is amazing. We will return when we are in NOLA again.
The blackened drum was everything we had heard and more. However, it was accompanied by plain mashed potatoes and undercooked veggies. Turtle soup above average and green tomato shrimp remoulade appetizer was superb. Most disappointing was the service- seemed like we were on the clock as soon as we set down. Waiter was cordial but rushed. OK, but we expected a lot more.
Wow! Second time this year and it was great again.
The shrimp enchilada appetizer is the best appetizer we’ve had all year. The fried oyster appetizer runs a close second of all the places we’ve been this year (Caribbean Room,Brennan’s, Tujague, Antoine, Arnaud,)
Once again, the eggplant pirogue entree was excellent and a cant miss as was the rabbit.
The bread pudding was the best dessert we’ve had all year at any of the above restaurants.
The warm bread before the meal is a great indication of where the meal is headed. There’s a variety of jalapeño bread, carrot bread, corn muffins and regular dinner rollsall very tasty!
The waiter was adequate but not friendly and almost cold. That was not our experience the last time we went. The previous experience resulted in the waiter enhancing the experience. This waiter distracted from the experience a bit.
None the less, K Paul’s deserves whatever praise they get. Everything on the plate was excellent and a true adventure.
Excellent food - the surf and turf (that isnt on the menu) was unbelievable. Get there early and have a drink with the folks at the little family owned/operated store next door - everyone was super friendly and talked about the history of their neighborhood.
We got there a little early and had to wait for our table which was fine since we were early. There was a bar but no place to sit (not that the bar was full but there were no chairs at the bar) we were told that we could get a drink and stand at the bar, if we wanted. We decided to find a bar that we could sit down at and have a drink. The food was good, our waitress was very friendly but the manager and hostess could have been a little more accommodating.
K-Paul's is my all time favorite restaurant in New Orleans. I have loved Chef Paul Prudhomme's recipes for as long as I can remember and they are brought to life in his restaurant. You will start with a basket of a variety of freshly baked breads and go from there. My favorite entree is the filet with debris sauce!
I went in for a solo dinner and had a fabulous experience. The service was great and I never felt rushed through my dining experience. The wine by the glass menu was very good. I had the turtle soup and it was absolutely delicious. I chose the surf and turf as my main course. The blackened drum and filet was an outstanding combination and served with asparagus and mashed potatoes. For desert the pecan sweet potato pie can’t be beat.
As in past visits K-Paul's always delights. The food is beyond delicious. I overheard a diner eating the evening special say "if I die tonight I will surely die happy" which prompted us to also order the special and she was so right. The service is attentive. I visit K-Paul's every time I visit New Orleans, I love, love, love the menu!
We came to New Orleans for our honeymoon, but we came to K-Paul’s for my husband, who grew up watching Chef Paul on tv and developed a love of cajun and creole food from the show. We were treated to an incredible meal and got to enjoy two amazing classics - shrimp etouffee and blackened drum. Both were incredible, but the icing on the cake was getting to take a picture with the chefs in the kitchen at the end of our meal!
My buddy Tommy and I try to get to New Orleans once a year just to enjoy the town. While we eat at many different restaurants, we always spend our last evening together at K-Paul's. We both had the pleasure of meeting Paul Prudhomme (separately) in the 80s and remember him as a wonderful man, not just an amazing chef. By the way, the Surf 'n' Turf is the best!
