First time at this restaurant. New to the area so in discovery mode. This is definitely one we’ll be back to.
Had our favorites tonight, French onion soup, caesar salad, ahi tuna tartare, and sardines. Wine was Pinot noir, and finished off with espresso
Our favorite place... can’t beat the service! Food never disappoints.
It was very slow the night we went which we loved because it is usually very loud during peak hours and difficult with a party more than 2.
Fantastic service and best sauteed fish Ive ever had in a restaurant
Crab cakes and cocktails were good. Chicken piccata underdone and had mealy texture. Pan fried duck breast overdone, especially end pieces. Steak cooked to rare rather than medium rare.
We had an absolutely wonderful meal (as in past visits also).. The French onion soup rivaled the best I have ever had, and the duck breast was excellent. My only complaint is that they don’t update their website enough, I went in drooling for the duck confit as described on their site , only to find that they change their menu every few days, and it wasn’t available.
My disappointment only lasted until the first course, though. Everything was delicious. Highly recommended!
Our server, and I regret I didn’t catch her name, was efficient, warm and funny without being intrusive. Made our evening. Food was very good, but Inwill remember her smile longer than the risotto.
Food was fine.
appetizer special of salmon sliders
beet salad
sardines
brussel sprouts
asparagus salad
apple/huckleberry crisp
Service was good.
A tad pricey for what you get.
But the noise level was bad. I was there on a Saturday night, so the place was crowded. And noisy.
I would not go back at a busy time because of the noise.
We went to K&L Bistro for Restaurant Week (RW) this year. Previously we've been to this restaurant for our 10 year anniversary. On that occasion I was disappointed but my husband was satisfied. We thought we'd try it again this year for RW, however the menu was not available. We trusted they would be doing something special for RW. But when we arrived the offering was an Arugula salad with an Artichoke Crostini, Asparagus/Artichoke Risotto, and Lemon Gelato for dessert - no meat protein. Still trusting they would do something special, I ordered the RW offering. In hind sight that was a mistake. The crostini was delicious but the salad was sparse. The risotto had fresh, al dente vegetables but none of the savory qualities that you would expect from a risotto. It was NOT creamy. No broth flavor. Needed SALT+. Just rice with steamed veggies. Very disappointing since this was supposed to be the signature dish! The gelato was delicious and served to save the meal. Service was slow. I don't think we will go back since there are so many other good restaurants in Sonoma County.
Our 35th wedding anniversary, but seated at a tiny table with bright spotlights in my face. Other tables were available that felt better and we were allowed to move. The macaroni and cheese was this highlight of the dinner, but enormous as an appetizer. Duck breast with veggies was good, not great. Sole meurnier was too rich, then served with French fries. Ramey Cabernet was an unusually good value. Server asked if we wanted more bread, which we didn’t need more bread, but we were surprised she took away the two pieces we had remaining. We didn’t say we didn’t want our bread. 😕 Overall we left feeling a bit let down. The original K&L was a much more enjoyable atmosphere and better food.
We had a good time with the family for my birthday. The food was good. The waitress was exceptionally helpful without being intrusive in any way. The portion sizes were large. My husband likes his vegetables softer; and my broccoli was tough. We had no complaint. The only reason I wouldn't go back is economic. It was a bit pricey for our budget
Food was pretty mediocre. Mussels were mealy and soft. Hamburger was lackluster. This is a hit or miss place. If not busy, food can be excellent. Too often it is just mediocre. Restaurant is a shell of its former self.
The appetizers (rabbit roulette; FOI's gras) were OUTSTANDING. The main courses served with French fries: the fires were like eating cardboard. Obviously not freshly prepared, not just overcooked - tasted like yesterday's food. Really sloppy.
My son has very high standards. He has hosted food pairing dinners with local craft beers. He loved it all for his early birthday dinner. He had the duck breast, I had the grilled hangar steak, and we enjoyed the Caesar and the wonderful Marrow Bones. A close friend recommended K & L as the best restaurant in Sebastopol. Glad to have found it.
K & L has been one of our go-to places whenever we are in town.
We love going to K and L. The food is always wonderful, especially their tuna tartare which I have to order every time. The wait staff are consistently efficient and helpful.
I have had many many meals here over many years and this was the only time that I would complain about the food. The fish was served very simply and just not very good with fries that were not very good, the chicken was good enough but the side of kale salad was just kale (not chopped or torn), tough without anything except dressing. The restaurant tends to get loud and we know that.... and loud it was!! Very hard to talk. There was nothing special about the service, it was "fine". One glass of wine, one cocktail, 2 entrees and a Ceasar salad over $100.00.
Had a wonderful waiter Very attentive
Great meal
K & L is one of our top 'go-to' choices for a special occasion or treating out-of-town guests. The food is inspired and delicious, and have gotten outstanding service on every visit. The extra reason we love this restaurant is their amazing support every year for Food For Thought on Dining Out For Life. It's the icing on the cake to make our strong recommendation complete!
Food was exceptional- the French Onion soup , oyster selection and Mac and cheese was our favorite!
Nice atmosphere with restaurant convenient to bar area. Outdoor patio looks like good place for summer dining
Waitress didn’t pick up the clues about when to order and seemed a bit miffed we were not ready when she asked if we were ready to order.
Having French fries as the side to Petrale Sole was a poor choice. Had to ask for bread and butter. Brought a bottle of Pinot Noir and had to ask that the wine glasses fit the varietal. Not very sophisticated considering their pricing.
Another awesome meal and time at our favorite neighborhood bistro. Richard was awesome (as usual). Karen and Lucas (the “K&L” of the place’s name) have set up a great place.
Had to ask our server to turn down the overhead lights - they did, and ambiance improved. Burger was great but not a great value at a base of $14.00 plus $2.00 for each add-on.
Brussels sprouts were undercooked.
Food and service were excellent, but it was so noisy we 3 couldn't hear one another..
The service was excellent. Our server helped with recommendations and the courses were properly timed. Food was generous and tasty.
I'm not quite sure how to review this. I have been here before and always liked it. The ambiance is great, the wait staff is great, and usually, the food is great. Last time however, I ordered some fish (Sole Muniere) that came with fries. The fish was mediocre, and the fries were terrible. My husband had a burger and fries. Burger was pretty good, fries terrible. The oysters were excellent, and happy hour drinks reasonable. The entire meal was around $100, which can be expected with drinks and oysters but NOT worth it at all. I would like to see something interesting with a fish dinner. Maybe pureed root veggies, flash fried brussels sprouts, salad, really, anything but those dried up over-cooked very stale fries. I am willing to give this place another chance, but I'm hoping it's a lot better next time.
We were particularly unhappy with the service. Our waitperson was pushy, harsh, and seemed to be in a great hurry though there were very few other customers. She wanted our drink order as we were sitting, tried to order us appetizers before we had seen the menu, and was generally not service oriented. The food was fine, though way expensive for the quality.
We go here often, as we enjoy the food & service. My only complaint this time would be that they never do anything extra..such as a complimentary dessert for a birthday. I stated on my reservation it was my husbands birthday..a special one too! Most nice restaurants provide a small dessert as a treat. Oh well. I bought him a nice dessert. Otherwise, still one of our favorites!
K & L is tried and true....consistently good. Not out there and edgy tho. The mussels were superb....the steak au poivre (sp) a little over -cooked and not particularly memorable. Great service overall.
We were fans of the smaller K&L before the remodel and expansion, and just hadn’t bonded with the newer version. Maybe it was growing pains as the kitchen adapted to the larger space, but we were disappointed and fell out of the K&L habit.
This week K&L was convenient after an event at the Center for the Arts, so we gave it another try, and had one of the best meals we’ve ever eaten there. Both the food and the service were spot on. Their oyster selection was good, our Caesar was classic, the grilled sardines a treat, and the lamb shank with risotto was swoon-worthy.
Great happy hour deals and excellent food, nothing better than oysters and crisp white wine. The mushroom bisque was incredible .
Great food
My wife loved the salmon
Setup the reservation online. Received an email back which was great. We had a 7pm reservation on 9-24-17. We arrived to a half full restaurant and were seated in the back corner with other people (not spreading people out). We asked to be moved outside since there was only one couple out there and not busy (shortly before we went out to the patio the couple finished). We were moved outside and sat there for over 20 minutes with no service at all. No water or drink order. We left and went to another local place that took care of us! This was a 10th anniversary dinner and they were aware when the reservation was scheduled online. We were not greeted with a congratulations or even a smile from the lady at the front desk. I own a service company and this establishment couldn't spell "customer service." Very upsetting since we came from OHIO.
Our lunch today was a business lunch. We happened to be clients this time. Our host has been there before and being from San Francisco, was again very pleased at the service and food.
Excellent food and service. Seated promptly (had a reservation). Our waiter Stav was attentive, friendly and engaging. Went with the Mac and Cheese as an appetizer (a little comfort food). I thought is was an "interesting" choice for an appetizer but it was great selection by my table mates (best shared among 3-4 or a meal by itself for younger picky eaters). We had the sole, a burger and salmon. All top notch. My daughter, who is very particular about salmon, gave it her highest marks. It was a relaxed, memorable meal.
Long standing, remodeled local .. should try if in the area.
The service here was so bad that I am actually writing a review. If it wasn't for the bus boy ( who was excellent ) we would have walked out as no server came to our table for the first 20 minutes we were there. He finally realized that no one had come to our table so he was able to summon one for us. Our server came and took our order and that was the last we saw of him. Throughout our dinner random servers came by our table with things we didn't order asking us if we had ordered them. Everyone who worked tonight seemed confused and like they had no idea what they were doing.
The food was decent but nothing spectacular. Our rare date night was a huge disappointment and we will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone.
The service was excellent. My hamburger was delicious and so were the fries. The sole needed a little more seasoning. Wine was good.
