Oyster Bar - Year Round
We actually wanted to have your lunch menu, but were there on a Sunday. The tuna tartar was excellent as were the Caesar and Cobb salads. The squash soup was very disappointing, very bland, no spices. It was vegan, so it needed a boost as summer squash doesn't have a strong flavor.
The waiter was excellent.
On the whole quite good. Drinks were perfectly made. My friend had the tuna tartar..excellent and the Mac and cheese also very good. I had the homemade sausage which was a bit dry and not flavorful enough. The waiter was excellent and anything we requested he brought right away.
We first discovered K&L several years ago and we continue to make it our go to place for our anniversary every year. This year was no different and we enjoyed another excellent meal. My wife started with an espresso and I had a half dozen miyagi oysters with a glass of Zin. As an entree, she had the sole and I had the evening's special, which was a rib eye. Both were served with an abundant helping of perfectly cooked french fries. Our meals were outstanding in every way. To finish, we shared our annual treat, creme brulee. Their added touch of decorating the plate in a script Happy Anniversary in chocolate was a big hit and much appreciated. We will be back again next year....if not sooner!
K&L Bistro has a solid menu with the items prepared nicely. They have a good selection of items so it's easy to find something for everyone. Service was well executed, friendly and timely.
It was my wife's birthday....and once again, she chose K&L for her special birthday dinner.
Thanks for the great food, service and atmosphere.

Slow bar service. Dining room is very nicely done. Service was slow at the bar but great at the table for dinner.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. The sole meuniere is perfect and so is everything else I have had there.
Service was POOR.... food was average. Never again.
Always a wonderful choice for fine bistro fare in Sebastopol. The ever-changing menu is full of interesting choices, the servers are efficient and knowledgeable, and the chef/owners are fantastic. We also much appreciate Karen and Lucas continuing their quadrennial tradition of inviting the community in to share World Cup football matches, regardless of start times!
We have been here before and return specifically for the Mussels. Beer selection is outstanding with a great variety of new and interesting ones. Usually very busy on a friday night but we were lucky this time and although the room filled up by the time we left it was very pleasant. Erin our server was attentive without being intrusive and was quite friendly.
Good service, ok food, pleasant dining room, not likely to come back
Great service, and excellent food and wine selection!
We had excellent service and delicious food at K and L. (We knew it would be a great night when we found a parking spot right outside the front door!) We shared a Caesar Salad which was fresh and very tasty. My husband had the steak and French fries; I have never seen so many French fries on one plate! So, of course I HAD to taste one....yummy and crunchy! I had the pasta with shrimp in a creamy sauce...and it was fantastic! For dessert, we shared the Cherry and Apricot Crisp! Another WOW!!! What an excellent combination and what a great way to end our delicious dinner!!!
The last time we were at K & L was before the remodel, so it’s been a while. When we arrived the host was not able to find our Open Table reservation. Since the restaurant wasn’t crowded, they found a table for us. When I ordered a drink the waiter asked a question that implied he had no idea what kind of drink I was ordering. There weren’t that many people in the restaurant but it was still hard to hear our conversation. We had to speak in loud voices and the tables were super close together so we kept our conversation pretty neutral. The food was fine but nothing spectacular. Totally disappointed.....
Amethyst oysters from Hog Island were pristine and light. Fabulous martinis, made at the suggestion of our server with Benham's gin - locally made in Graton. Our wedge salads were a lofty heap of baby romaine, well balanced & not overdressed. He had the whole grilled branzini, filletted at table by our capable server. It was overcooked for me, but I like my fish rare. His side of spinach cooked with garlic & lemon was delicious & bright. I had the crab cakes, which came with a huge pile of crispy fries. I meant to ask them to sub some veges instead, but figured it was too late. When I mentioned this, I was given a nice plate of dressed greens. For dessert we shared a succulent chocolate peanut butter torte thingy with ice cream & salted caramel, then staggered happily home.
This was a special find of a restaurant, as we drove through central California. I enjoyed the most delicious sole meunière I’ve had, and my husband’s home-made white sausages were very special. What a treat!
The food is good, however there seems to be an emphasis on fried, for example, the chicken piccata was breaded and fried. Also, perhaps a little heavy on salt, but that is common in restaurants. They emphasize fresh and local.
RESTAURANT AND SERVICE WERE GOOD. HALIBUT FAIRLY FLAVORLESS, SALAD FAIR, DESSERT GOOD. AMBIANCE NICE, BUT NOISE LEVELS HIGH FOR THE FEW CUSTOMERS PRESENT. SMALL PORTIONS AND FAIRLY PRICEY, BUT CONSISTENT WITH THE BAY AREA.
Took forever to get service. We ended up walking out.
We had some major issues with our dinner. When our first course came, my wife’ soup had the chipotle cream fresh on top when she requested to leave it off. She decided to scoop it off and eat the soup anyway. She could not get it all off and it made the soup too spicy for her. We were done with our first course before we could get anyone’s attention to change it out. The second round of first course orders came and when we were done with those my wife’s soup was served. She refused it saying she did not want to rush through it and holding everyone up from their main course. No apologies were ever offered. The main course came. I ordered Bronzino on the basis that it would be de-boned for me. Our server, instead of cutting the fish and lifting the flesh off the bone, cut on either side of the bone, bulling the spine out leaving all the side bones in the fish. It was inedible with all the small bones. When my dish was picked up and most of the fish was left on the plate, no one ever asked me about my experience. The shame is the flavor of the Bronzino was amazing. All the food was delicious and our experience was quite frustrating. It’s a reminder for me that a good experience is more than good food.
Vodka martinis great, service great, so noisy could not talk to each other without yelling once place got full. French fries wonderful
Went in for lunch. Sat at the bar, where a smartly dressed young woman enthusiastically greeted and served us. We each opted for the" Impossible Burger". Very good. One of us will opt for double cheese next time. One of us had well drinks. The other enjoyed hand crafted cocktails made with in-house shrubs, essences, and syrups - stunning on the palled and delicious to drink. We'll be back soon. Worth the thirty minute drive.
Excellent food and friendly service
We eat at K&L regularly. Friday was an unusual experience. We were placed in a table which appeared to be next to the entrance to the bathroom. So people coming through from the bar were going past us constantly.
We ordered a Cesar salad. Th greens appeared fresh, but it did not appear as if whomever had dressed it had bothered to look at it. Most of it was undressed.
My main course the chicken, was a little different. The chicken was fine, but the kale salad did not taste very well prepared.
Coffee tasted like water. What I pointed this out to our waitress who was Asian, she said, "we have a lot of new people who just started and need to be trained". She did not apologize or offer to do anything about it.
We have had many many good meals at K&L and like it. Maybe Friday was just a bad night for them. But in some basic areas the restaurant appears to have lost quality control. Maybe we are too attentive to details, but it did feel a bit odd.
Our local favorite! We live in Santa Rosa and we always choose K&L Bistro for dinner or dessert.
Everything was great, except don't order the steak au poivre rare. It's not a cut that works well in rare. Too tough. Sauce good though, and tuna tartare has a real 'kick." The atmosphere is very much a neighborhood, and very pleasant.
French Onion Soup is some of the best we’ve ever had! Went two days in a row just for that!
Sad. What used to be a lovely lunch spot with the
BEST Salad Nicoise ever is now regular food with little content.
Friendly and professional service. The food is consistently good. Highly recommended.
very disappointed with the food based with zagat rating and other reviews . Eggs were way undercooked. Homemade sausage pretty bland. Salad extremely oily. Mushroom Omelette super spicy (not specified on menu)
Service was great though
Will not come back
K&L is good for daily lunch and dinner. K&L has difficulty keeping up with holiday/Mother's Day crowd. We were first seating of the day, with main dining room 2/3 filled. Very friendly and attentive server. Ordered drinks, which arrived within5-6 minutes. Coffee did not. Placed brunch orders. Orders came out 15-20 min later. 3 of 4 orders were cold. Sent back 2 orders to reheat or? One order came back approx 10 min later. Since it was eggs Benedict, the order was split. Canceled the second order. 4th order had a side dish, which came after order was finished. Server canceled charges for the two cold orders. Had a similar experience last Mother's day, so we get it..good for daily uncrowded diing, not for crowded holiday dining.
The service was the best part of our Mother’s Day brunch. The doughnuts were amazing, too. Our entrees were fine, nothing spectacular. But we would try it again because of the service, for sure’
The only problem was how long it took to get the food, like 40 minutes.
Our dinner at K & L Bistro was excellent. We both had fish, with oysters as starters. The oysters were fresh, and chilled with a wonderful champagne sauce. The Halibut, had a beautiful, Israeli
couscous and seasonal vegetables. I have to say it was the best combination I think I've ever experienced. K & L Bistro is consistantly good food, whether for dinner or a Sunday brunch!
K&L Bistro never disappoints. My favorite restaurant in Sebastopol.
Loved this experience. Great interesting food, enthusiastic staff, super friendly bartender, hip vibe, inviting bar, local's fun spot. We started with fried tater tots accompanied by garlic aioli - (ok, so this is now my top desert island choice). Following (in big tater tot foot steps) we had the KFC - Korean Fried Chicken - yum - a good sweet savory balanced heaping of chicken wings. It was a polite but competitive race to see who could eat more. Having a bit more room, we finished off the trio with something cold and fishy - tuna tartare with sriracha, ponzu, avocado, & sesame crisps. A choice of meals when you want a little of everything and everything good! There was a lot more on the menu we would loved to have tried and on our next trip back to California we'll make this our first stop again.
I met a friend and business associate for lunch. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. We had wonderful wine from the area with lunch. We started with excellent tuna tartare with avocado. It was perfect. I had the quiche with a side salad and my friend had soft shell crab sandwich. Everything was wonderful and there were many other choices on the menu that I would love to try.
First time at this restaurant. New to the area so in discovery mode. This is definitely one we’ll be back to.
Had our favorites tonight, French onion soup, caesar salad, ahi tuna tartare, and sardines. Wine was Pinot noir, and finished off with espresso
