Great local find. Food was delicious and the service was excellent. Will definitely return.
The prime rib was out of this world. Food and service was great. We went in the Sunday afternoon of Easter and it was just perfect.
Service was absolutely amazing!!!! And food was as well!
Great night out after Nor’easter left town!!
The worst service we have ever had! We had reserved a table 2 weeks in advance and the place was empty. We ha d to sit at the bar to eat our dinner. Will never go again, the staff was rude and unprofessional.
Overall good as usual but do not use Open table since they apparently do not use it for reservations: didn’t have our reservation so we had to wait
Great local restaurant with good food !
Our second visit and it was as great as the first. A great neighborhood gem with 2 available menus. Lively atmosphere. Fantastic wait staff and very reasonable prices.
Felipe paid no attention to us unless we call him or when the hostess flagged him. He never bothered to ask how our meal was, no water refill, etc.
I would come back for the truffle fries
Food was very good.. The restaurant staff was very attentive. A+
Our server Troy was amazing. Worked the whole back room, including a small bar, eight tables and a large party of 15 teenagers. It was loud and we were celebrating with a small party for a birthday so not very appropriate that night.
Good portion size. Great service. Not a lot of vegetarian options
Food was awesome can't go wrong however the service was very delayed
JW's was absolutely amazing!! Well worth the ride to Winthrop! The bartender was friendly & fast... the waitstaff was welcoming & very helpful, attentive & eager to offer menu suggestions. Our food was delicious, scratch made fun brunch entrees. Try the Potato Cabonara it's amazing!!!
Very predictable - great food, drinks and service.!!!!
Made reservations and they didn't have table for us. But they did go out of there way and made a table for us. I was happy for how they tried to fix the error and ended up being a great experience
We had a great Father's Day dinner. We had two vegetarians in our party who loved their meals. The menu was updated with some great summer dishes, and they have specials every night. We have had many great meals at JW's.
All in all it wasn't bad, the food was good , however, the service was a little less than expected the bread was excellent, not to excited about the meatball appetizer. Meatballs were bland. Chicken parm was good however the pasta was overcooked
Jessica was a fun and welcoming bartender, see made me feel right at home! I had stoppped thru in my way to my BNB for a martini and dinner. I ordered the lobster flatbread pizza which was amazing. Maybe you'll be lucky enough to visit when Jess is singing!
The food here was delicious but the service was slow. It was very noisy and then they had a singing duo in an open area that was too loud. I would go back and ask to sit in the back.
Very efficient and relaxed staff, food is perfectly cooked and the table was visited by Chef Jay to make sure all was good. The menu was varied with some very interesting and delicious dishes produced by Chef Jay. The fine quality of the meal, combined with the ambiance of the place the night we were there, means we will return often. A great place!
very good food and they catered to my request for a vegetarian pasta dish and it was delicious. both friends were very impressed with their meals. Service great ! but it was loud not energetic. Hard to have a conversation.
We had a great meal. Our server recommended a very nice bottle of wine and let us have a taste before we ordered it. The tiramisu is some of the best around.
A FIRST TIME FIND OF EPIC PROPORTIONS! GREAT SERVICE, WONDERFUL MENU CHOICES ALL AT A TREMENDOUS VALUE. GIVE JW'S A TRY AND YOU ARE SURE TO RETURN!
Great find! The atmosphere, service and food were all top notch!!!
We are regulars at JW's and are very excited with all of the new changes and new ownership. Coming from a family that has been in the restaurant business for years I am pretty fussy when it comes to food. My wife and I always support business in our home town and our experience on St. Patrick's Day at JW's was just outstanding. The corned beef dinner was the best I have ever had. Served in this large white bowl it featured mini potatoes and other root vegetables, cabbage in broth and the best corn beef I have ever experienced. Rumor has it that this dish was oven baked, not boiled and it really made a difference. I just hope that Jay features this dish from time to time and not wait till next St. Patrick's day. JW's offers the vibe of a Boston restaurant with great appetizers small plates, great sea food, steaks and great specials without the in town prices. Their staff is the best, and offer family style dining in their adjacent restaurant, Marco.
Definitely ask what your Chef is cooking.
If the chef enjoys cooking the meal the better it taste.
And the Hot Pudfing is tadyefore.
It was noisy just because Bruce Bartlett was playing live and rocking the place! Which my boyfriend and I loved. The place is usually just as loud as it should be, nice and quite quiet. Food tastes amazing.
We had another great meal at JW's. The food was high quality and creative. The owner and staff take a lot of pride in making sure the experience is what people expect. I look forward to returning.
We had a great time dining at JW's. We had two little ones with us, and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating! The food was superb, from appetizers all the way to dessert. My friend loved the Carpaccio. They also handled my daughter's allergies with grace and knowledge.
Mark the owner chef was very engaging and friendly
Our best meal yet at JW's. We both ordered specials of the night, a Halibut and Filet. Jay the new owner and chef has really taken this Winthrop restaurant to a new level. Keep the new entrees coming.
Great food! The new chef-owner of JW's is creating great food at a good price. I've been 4 times since the ownership change and each time my food and my companions' food has been excellent. I especially enjoyed a delicious linguine with red clam sauce. It's my go to dish at many restaurants and this version was one op the top examples. Burger is awesome, steak tips, etc. in addition to full on steak, pork chop and other meals.
Ease of getting to and parking at this place should not be overlooked. It is a 20 minute, or so, ride from Boston, Swampscott, Nahant, Lynn, Revere, Malden, Chelsea and Saugus. Lots of FREE convenient parking. JW's and Winthrop are often overlooked gems.
The food is amazing at JW's -- two great chefs doing awesome work. And, it a superfun, local vibe. With parking, no less. Totally worth a regular trip up from Boston.
A great small restaurant. Staff was excellent and the bread was delicious. The Tuscan burger was huge and the Chicken Broccoli & Ziti was excellent. It was fun to sit near the bar and watch the Bruins (even though they lost!)
The food and service here were just wonderful. Tempura Lobster Fra Diavolo. Lobster flatbread pizza. Pork chops and vinegar peppers. The antipasto platter featured red pepper puree, hummus and white bean dip and housemade pickles. Just a wonderful evening all around.
Excellent service and food. Menu is very diverse and creative.
We used to love JWs and were "frequent flyers" when Chef Dave was there. The new owners don't seem to get it. I know they want to make their mark, but we have given the new menu a few chances and nothing so far makes me want to order it again. I feel like we are in mourning.
Great local place that is shown great promise under the new owners. They have an updated menu and lots of options.
Ownership has changed and so has everything that was good about JW's food. The signature meat loaf, the haddock dish, a very tasty shrimp dish and steak are no longer on the menu. There was only one special offered (and this was a Saturday night) and there was no "special" drink of the day offered. The wedge salad that I ordered as an appetizer was bland and tasteless, with pork rind added instead of quality bacon; and the gorgonzola tasted like cottage cheese. My husband's shrimp dish was overcooked. Since I live in the town, I am saddened as I was pleased we had a "bistro" that had been reliable and always good. Now, as the empty tables at prime time on a Saturday night testify, the restaurant menu is no longer appealing.
