Just Dinner Ratings and Reviews
It’s probably the 5th time I dine here and I think it’s one the best restaurants in Houston. Cody, quiet, excellent service, divine food,byob..what else can I say. It’s one of those places where you can really relax. My fave plates are shrimp and grits, filet mignon and the chocolate cake. Nothing can go wrong at just dinner. So happy it exists!
I absolutely love this place! It's a small and intimate spot with amazing food and service. I always enjoy their entrees and small plates. This place is BYOB with a $12/bottle corking fee which means we get to enjoy our favorite wines. Blanca makes this place so special with her personal touches and the amount of care she shows each of her customers. If you want a place where you feel like a member of a their family for the night - this place is it!
Great atmosphere, excellent food, friendly and intimate service. Perfect evening all around!
Don't forget to bring your own bottle! The staff was kind enough to wait for us to go grab a bottle because we didn't realize it was only BYOB and they don't sell any alcohol/wine.
A nicely appointed restaurant which is well described online so I won’t repeat that here. Food choices were very much to our taste and made making a choice for starters and entree really difficult! My wife had the crab bisque to start - had a tomato base and was very tasty - she really enjoyed it.
I had the short rib and my wife the meatballs which were a special of the day - both really great, generous serves and I’m looking forward to having the rest of the short ribs for lunch at work this week!!
For dessert I chose the banana bread with toffee sauce - yum...
Service was first class - very informative, efficient and friendly. Hardwood floors and other solid surfaces in smaller spaces can make for a little elevated background noise but not unbearable.
The option to BYO allows you to bring a bottle or two of really good quality wine at supermarket prices for a modest corkage - still great value. I looked at menu ahead of time, considered the likely food choices we’d make and then took a bottle of red and white to match knowing we’d like them anyway and could always take unfinished bottles home with us.
Great night, first visit, but we’ll definitely go back.
This has been one of my favorite restaurants in Houston for years. A quaint little BYOB place in Montrose area. This time, however, service was atrocious. It took us over 3 and a half hours to eat. 15 minutes to greet and take order, 30 more minutes to receive appetizers, 30 minutes after finishing to receive entrees, 30 minutes after finishing to ask for dessert, 15 more minutes to get the check. This was a shock and unacceptable. Completely changed how I view this place and can no longer recommend it.
Perfect, cozy little spot, especially in the winter with the fireplace on! Duck entree and pork belly appetizer were incredible. The service is personal and impeccable, and the staff’s knowledge of the menu is impressive. We hadn’t realized it was BYOB for alcohol, but the kitchen was sweet enough to provide us with complementary wine glasses to make sure we had a wonderful date night.
This was a great choice my dad suggested for me and my husbands 6 year anniversary. The maple pork belly starter was the best! The flavors came together wonderfully in EVERY dish. They went above and beyond and for us on our anniversary and I loved the cozy quaint feel of it. Definitely recommend!!
This restaurant is in a small house on Dunlavy with good parking. The interior is good but not fancy. The food is very good with a nice sized varied menu. The quality was very good and the quantity just right for all four of us. This is a BYOB establishment which makes it even more special as you can bring your favorite wine and not pay 3 times its cost. This is the best of all of the BYOBs in Houston that we have tried. I had short ribs which were very good and two others had the beef filet which was also quite good. The side veggies were crisp and fresh.
We love Just Dinner. This is our favorite go-to place to take friends for special occasions. Lila and her staff and the best ever, welcoming and warm!!! We bring our own wine, we order interesting food, and we thoroughly relax during our meal experience. We highly recommend this neighborhood gem!
We were visiting Houston for the weekend. We did not know that you had to bring your own liquor to drink but our hostess directed us to the corner store where a bottle of wine and beer were purchased. The restaurant could have had some heat - it was chilly but I understand that Houston had received snow. Otherwise our meals were great and enjoyed by all parties.
Very good food that is inventive and served well by competent staff. The dining areas are three small rooms in a small old house. While it could be cozy and intimate it can also be loud and intrusive depending who is seated in your small room. If you are looking for very good chef driven cuisine that is reasonably priced by all means try it. Just remember it could be loud and annoying if you are seated so close to obnoxious other diners.strangers in close quarters.
