Just Dinner Ratings and Reviews
We were visiting Houston for the weekend. We did not know that you had to bring your own liquor to drink but our hostess directed us to the corner store where a bottle of wine and beer were purchased. The restaurant could have had some heat - it was chilly but I understand that Houston had received snow. Otherwise our meals were great and enjoyed by all parties.
Very good food that is inventive and served well by competent staff. The dining areas are three small rooms in a small old house. While it could be cozy and intimate it can also be loud and intrusive depending who is seated in your small room. If you are looking for very good chef driven cuisine that is reasonably priced by all means try it. Just remember it could be loud and annoying if you are seated so close to obnoxious other diners.strangers in close quarters.
This BYO restaurant has exceptional food and service. The ambiance is a nicely decorated older house on Dunlevy at Welch with several rooms. Noise level is low so conversation is easy. Menu is changed with seasonal foods. Kind of hard to find, building only has a small sign.
At first impression was this place is small. But once you get in and settled it really is nice and cozy.
Food was great. I liked the BYOB, so I could bring what I wanted to drink.
Cruz, our waiter, was great. Explained all the courses featured that evening more that once per our request due to noise level.
I have heard of the restaurant and glad it was recommended on the Open Table app.
This was our second visit to this neighborhood gem. The food was great. The ambiance was nice and our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu. You can also bring your own wine which is great. The corkage fee is a nominal $12, which is a great bargain compared to other restaurants. We will be coming back.
service great and food wonderful as usual. Had the fish special, Mahi Mahi and was prepared to perfection. One of us was craving the filet and we were told there was only one left when we sat down, so if we wanted it, let them know right away, so we did and we got the last one. thanks for the heads up had been craving it all day long.
This place is consistent. You get what you pay for--they use quality ingredients and the service is just right. it's not pretentious or snooty, just nice dining, in an enjoyable setting. Not too crowded or loud, nice selection of menu items and best of all YOUR wine selection. They do charge corkage for each bottle opened. The duck and the steak are our 2 go to items, but I had the swordfish special which was done perfectly. Their dishes come with sides that are seasonal and compliment the main which makes it great value. The crabcakes and the wedge are 2 other items we order regularly, the wedge, always with bacon! The only downside on this visit was one of the patrons had doused themselves in perfume to the point where it made some of us uncomfortable. This can be a problem, and certainly wasn't the restaurant's fault, but it was just inescapable since the place is small. One other thing to point out, the chef is in the back custom cooking your meal. In other words, made to order, so keep in mind that he has your meal, and your fellow diners' meals to cook on a 6 burner stove in the back. It takes a while, so bring your wine and your best friend(s) and relax.
This was my second visit to Just Dinner. I love the fact that the restaurant is a great re-use of an old bungalow, which permits smaller dining areas within the various rooms. This was a parent's date-night, and we were happy to have a quiet dinner to enjoy conversation and great food.
We dined at Just Dinner for my boyfriend's birthday and we loved it. The food could not have been better. It's a completely personal experience with a waiter who has but a few tables and spent time describing each dish to us to determine exactly what we should order to fit our preferences. Make sure to BYOB - We picked up a bottle of our favorite wine to pair with our dishes. It was overall an incredible experience that we can't wait to do again!
Just a perfect place for a quiet, romantic dinner date with my girlfriend. I had a bit of trouble finding the place - it is a house, literally. That was the only downside. It's lovely inside. Our server was nice, helpful, and reserved. The food was absolutely outstanding. I had the filet mignon and my girlfriend had the chicken. We had a wonderful meal, and we will definitely be back.
