Juniper Ratings and Reviews
We had a friendly and attentive waiter. Food was well prepared and had good flavors. I had the Duck Chiliquiles. The Creme Fraiche and Verde Saude made a nice underflavor, but the duck could have been pork or something as it's duckness didn't really come through. I still liked the dish, though. The menu said it had Fried Eggs, but I only got one egg. Also, it came on a bed of nacho chips but this wasn't mentioned in the menu. But that's a nitpicking, as overall it was a good brunch meal. I plan to go back.
Not our first visit to Juniper. Like the vibe - a downtown gem. Appetizers and tapas are a must...this trip we enjoyed the Stuffed Mushroom on Bolognese...followed with sandwiches and salad. Good selection of beer and wine.
Enjoyable meal. The chef modified my meal with a generous helping of veggies to replace the carbs. Everything was very tasty. I was a little disappointed with our table. We had made reservations and they were nowhere near full but they stuck us in the very back by the kitchen and bathrooms, which seemed odd.
Made reservations for a family meetup (6 adults, 2 kids) and had an absolutely perfect table setup for us behind the bar. Our server was so nice and so accommodating to our questions and requests. Absolutely love the food and ambiance here and will return on my next visit.
Menu seems to have become much more sandwich driven since I was here last and less interesting. Two of our 4 meals were good (bolognese and kale salad), the other two (hazelnut trout and the New York strip special) were over cooked and flavorless. For the money I’m not sure I would recommend Juniper. That said, they do get credit for great service.
Love the option of making reservations online. The food was good. I had the biscuits and gravy and the gravy was a little watery but lots of meat. The potatoes were pre-made so they couldn't make any substitutions to them. My husband had the eggs benedict and loved them!
Dinner for 5, menu limited to 3 entrees beef, chicken or fish. None had the chicken but none of the entrees were worth the money. Cioppino was fishless and tasteless, steak was 8 oz new York, grissle abound and over cooked. Oversold the special, it was simply terrible unless you like over cooked vegetables.
Sad, service was good but couldn't overcome the food quality.
The food and service were excellent. We ordered from the brunch menu. Salmon Benedict
and Chicken with a biscuit. The food was tasty and the plating perfect. Mimosa was light and
refreshing and the coffee was robust in flavor. We dined upstairs. The lighting was soft and
we had a nice table for two. Highly recommend this restaurant.
I felt the meal was lacking overall. The Salmon over noodles was pretty salty, hardly had any vegetables and spendy to boot. The pasta with bolognese was lackluster.
The server didn't offer the dessert menu with a kid at the table, so I didn't ask. I also felt very rushed, the server dropped my check off while we were still eating and rarely acknowledged my date. I wasn't asked if I wanted another beverage but wouldn't have had one as the Moscow Mule was too sweet. It was my first time at Juniper so maybe it's more casual than I thought.
It's a nice enough place but wasn't the best experience and an odd service experience.
My Mom and her partner have recently purchased a condo in Boise and we wanted to show them some of our favorite spots. They loved Juniper - the drinks and food were very, very good. Although a member of our party didn't like her cocktail, the waiter quickly removed the drink and helped her figure out what drink she would like as a replacement. Very nice! The portions were perfect and the ambiance was nice. It was pretty noisy - I wouldn't necessarily go to this restaurant for a quiet dinner, but for a party of 4, it's perfect.
It was a great dinner there were five of us and everyone enjoyed their food and the creative gin and tonics! I had the duck Ramen on recommendation from someone who had dined there previously. It was fabulous and I would come back to have it again.
We had a positive experience except for the person at the front who seated us. Reservation was for 4 people and at the last minute another person joined our group. As the 5 of us were huddled around the front desk – he made a rude comment regarding the reservation being for 4. It made all of us very uncomfortable and embarrassed for the person who joined us last minute. Then he let us know that he didn’t think he would be able to seat us with that many. As it turned out he did seat us upstairs and there were at least four other tables large enough for five which remained empty during our entire meal.
I'm done with this place. Used to be the service, now it's the chef and the food. Service was the only positive part... you know what the biggest shame is? How great the atmosphere is and what this place COULD BE. I almost enjoy the food here better than any other place in town. Almost...
Where do I begin?
Well, I'm regularly in this place getting what might be my favorite salad in town, the Brussel Sprout Salad - one that I can say I've probably had at least 5 to 10 times before. In fact, just two nights ago I was in here with my father - someone I recommended this place to, never again - and I had it. I got it tonight. When it was brought to me and my friend (he had it as well), we had to ask the waiter if they made a mistake because this was a kale salad with shaved Brussels on top. He came back from the kitchen and told us the Chef said "this is how he's always made it" - this was the moment I lost it. Don't lie to me. I'm not your GF sitting at home wondering where you are at midnight- I'm someone who eats here regularly
And knows EXACTLY what comes out of this kitchen.
Have you ever heard the adage if it ain't broke, don't fix it? Well, the red beans and rice were probably the best dish in town. Also, Before they REMOVED it from the menu - they made it something entirely different than red beans and rice - they got rid of the rice... wait, what?
Don't come here. Waiter just said, "dare you to go talk to the chef" he then said he was joking but not before I said I dare him to come talk to me...
Then he charged me for my one drink... still tipped 50%. Bye Felicia
