Juni is a fine dining experience, located in the Hotel Chandler in Manhattans Flatiron district. The head chef, Shaun Hergatt, has won Michelin stars for his unpretentious French cuisine in an elegant atmosphere. The kitchen at Juni is seasonally driven, sources its ingredients locally and uses sustainable and organic produce and meat whenever possible.
Juni has a five-course tasting menu that changes at the chefs or the seasons whim. Recent menus include first courses such as hearts of palm, and peekytoe crab. Second courses such as Gigamoto oysters and handmade gnocchi are followed by fish such as salmon or bass and lamb tenderloin.
I just love Juni. Juni deserves at least 2 Michelin stars. It is able to successfully combine great tasting food with an extraordinary dining experience. Every dish always looks and tastes fresh and clean and beautiful! Plus all that edible foliage on the plate is great for your system ;-) Chef Shaun can look stern and serious during service but he's your friendly and charming Aussie when he makes time to table hop and greet diners. I find myself coming back here often for both lunch and dinner. I think it has one of the best value prix fixe lunches in NYC. The overall experience you get especially at dinner makes it a great choice for both dining alone or hosting guests. It would be nice though if they give out a copy of the menu if you have the full chef's tasting.
A three course lunch menu for $39 for the quality you get is a great deal. Everything was great, including the deserts. Would go again.
The food is a work of art. Dining here is more than a meal, its an experience. If you are looking for a quick Monday night bite, this is not your destination because the meal runs rather long. However, if you want to have a very special meal to mark a celebration you will not be disappointed. The food is on the same level of quality as Daniel or Per Se yet the ambiance is less stuffy and reservations are not impossible to come by. The cocktails are a reason enough to make a visit and the wine list was full of gems. The service was also top notch.
We had the 4 course with the wine pairing. Food presentation and attention to detail was exceptional. We also enjoyed the selected wines. For a special occasion (our 25th wedding anniversary) this is an experience.
Really enjoyed this, would emphasise that it is expensive but fabulous.
Exceptional food and service to match!
The wine was the best part of the meal and the knowledgeable sommelier very helpful, assisting us in choosing a fairly priced wine, for the quality. I first suggested a $91 wine and after a discussion he recommended a similar bottle (Southern Rhone) costing only $10 more which was superb. It saved an otherwise dismal evening. There were many nice wines in the $40-$80 price range.
The worst dish was the so-called lamb (three inches long, an inch wide and 3/4 of an inch thick), which seemed to be pulverized and laced with fat. It did taste lamb-like. One of my companions had a vegetable appetizer with minute pieces of asparagus in a small bowl surrounded by liquid nitrogen. The "ice cream" for dessert was about the size of three small cotton balls. Indeed, all of the numerous dishes were minute. With the high quality bread and some excellent dips there was enough to eat.
This is a very attractive, quiet place with well-spaced tables and has a service staff that is obviously well-trained and working very hard. I felt sorry for them. If the chef had made an appearance in the dinning, I and my companions would have booed.
Although I read the reviews beforehand, our experience at Juni was remarkable. The service, food and atmosphere all surprised positively.
Hard not to compare Juni with Per Se - a remarkable experience in itself. The food at Juni is equal without the excessive quantities and the service is on par. While Juni lacks a view of Central Park, the quiet ambience and shorter time commitment allows for making it a regular stop rather than only for special occasions.
We had the 4 course tasting menu and let the waiter influence our choices. Nothing disappointed. Starting with 7 amuse bouches thru dessert, the experience was gourmet not gluttony.
The table and restaurant were quiet, allowing us to talk at conversational level without overhearing our neighbors. My gluten-free choices were easily accommodated. And even my guest's request to finish in 2 hours was honored with a professional smile.
Exellent food and service. We brought our two children and we were very satisfied with the service. The food experience was worth the star. Thank you so much for a very nice evening.
I always make sure I come to Juni every time I visit New York, since it opened in 2013. The service is impeccable and the food is outstanding - always inventive and consistent. It well deserved its Michelin star this year!
Juni, is a great restaurant for food and service. I will go back again soon with friends. I would highly recommend Juni to foodies.
I loved this place. Took my wife to Juni for her 40th birthday with my two children (aged 12 and 15) and it is one of the best dining experiences I have had, bearing in mind that I have eaten in many fine dining restaurants (one two and three star restaurants) across Europe. The food was prefect - from the adventure of the selection of seven appetisers through to the quality and beauty of each of the four courses - just perfect. The service on the evening was impeccable and the setting comfortable and relaxed (I don't agree with some of the less positive reviews on this). My first time in New York since a kid but I will be back and will be sure to make another trip to Juni.
Great food from chef SH. The tast of each dish was great. And on top of that, each dish was visually very, very beautiful composed. One of the best visual experiences we have had in NY.
We also had a very knowledgable server. I don´t remember his name, but he deserves to be mentioned. He could remember each dish on the menu (you choose from 4 different dishes from 4 different categories. And he was more than happy to explain each dish for us, and could remenber them all in sequence, without looking once in the menu. Very impressive, but above all, he was very informal and just wanted to help us to the best possible experience. And it was a great evening.
The food is almost too beautiful too eat, but eat it. It tastes amazing. The hearts of palm with white asparagus appetizer was sculpture on a plate and one of the best things I have ever eaten. Service is flawless, with a staff that does everything perfectly without the any hint of pomposity. These guys want you to really enjoy your meal and the whole experience of being there. We went for lunch , which is an almost shocking bargain, and are looking forward to going back for dinner. This place is best for adults, the kids won't appreciate it at all. So, keep that in mind when planning a visit.
Food was great, only criticism was that it felt that the waiters were waiting for you to finish your last mouthful and you just about had enough time to put your knife and fork down before the plates were taken away - so you always felt a little rushed really! Other than that, we couldn't fault the food as it was truly excellent!
First time here, came for lunch. Service was a charming balance of warm and professional.
Food was FANTASTIC! $39 of three courses at this level of cuisine was an amazing value. I'm looking forward to returning for dinner.
I'm lucky enough to live on an expense account entertaining clients and employees, so I get to dine out a lot in several east coast cities. So it's not often that I'm caught by surprise by a well reviewed restaurant, but that is what happened at JUNI. The entire staff makes certain your experience is positive, so it's not an issue of getting the right waiter. And every member of the staff knows the dishes intimately and discusses with confidence and passion. So much so that I opted to just let the chef decide my courses for the evening. What a taste treat! My guest and I were both blown away by both the variety of tastes and the beautiful presentation. Additionally, the Chef surprises were incredible and greatly appreciated! At one point mid meal one of the staff members asked us if we were having a good time. What a great question! After a positive response from both of us he then remarked, "great, dining out should be fun!" And it was. I will excitedy return one more time before annointing JUNI my new NYC favorite, but I'm certain it's in the cards. What we experienced was no accident. It was carefully created and executed, and without being pretentious.
WE HAD A MARVELOUS DINNER. THE SERVICE WAS OUTSTANDING AND THE FOOD WAS UNIQUE AND DELICIOUS.IT WAS A PERFECT FIND FOR A SPECIAL OCCASION WITH PEOPLE WHO ENJOY GREAT FOOD.
Excellent, superlative, first-rate, first-class, outstanding, remarkable, marvelous, magnificent, wonderful, splendid, admirable, noteworthy, impressive, fine, exquisite, exceptional and glorious. In other words, superb!
Sho was wonderful, but this is even better.
I've been to New York a couple dozen times over the last 5 years and have eaten at MANY fine restaurants. Juni was BY FAR the best food and service we have ever had. I ate at Juni last week with my 19 year old son and even he thought the place was outstanding.
I have eaten at a number of fine dining restaurants in the UK and wanted to find somewhere special in NY for my wife's 50 birthday. Juni does not disappoint! The food is amazing, we tried the 10 course taster menu and each dish is a taste sensation. You need to try it as words don't do it justice.
It's on the pricy side but you pay for the experience and food that is out of this world. Even more special is that chef, Shaun Hergatt, took the time to come out to see diners and spoke to my wife and I about our night. The overall service is personal and attentive.
This is a Michelin star restaurant so I would say you have to try this level of food once in your life. Visiting Juni ticks this box and more.
Fantastic food and service.
When I politely asked a waiter where the Chablis we ordered was (towards the end of the course it was meant to accompany), the sommelier came back to our table and asked who was 'freaking out' about the wine he had forgotten. A disgrace for a Michelin starred restaurant.
A pity as the food was exquisite.
We had the pleasure of dining at Juni on Feb 28th. Shaun Hergatts cuisine is masterful. Artistic, aesthetic, and explodes with combinations of flavors that are a pure delight to the palate!
They were so kind to have special "Happy Anniversary" touches from beginning to end.
Every meal was artfully prepared. The service was friendly and knowledgable. The food was unique and delicious. We enjoyed every moment and they took care to make a special night for us , special .
What an absolute outstanding surprise this restaurant!
We visited the restaurant on February 27, 2015. The menu (choice of 4 or 6 courses) was wonderful.
Every single amuse (before starting with the real courses of the menu) felt like a gift: beautifully served like a piece of art and a real explosion in your mouth.
We will definitely come back to Juni when we will visit NY again and we would love to recommend the restaurant to all the people who know to value an extraordinary high-level cuisine like Juni!

The staff give an outstanding service. The food is impeccably delicious with unbelievable presentation. We had 4 courses of our choice- braised Ox tail being the best meal I have ever eaten- as well as 8 canapés prior to this. The cocktail equally as Devine! Overall just an excellent way to finish our trip in New York!
Juni is definitely the top most on my list now. The food is fantastic, the staff is extremely polite, attentive and knowledgeable. It was a perfect evening. From the bread to everything that they offered us on the house and our six course meals - delicious. They made us great mocktail drinks too! To top it all, Chef Shaun Hergatt came by to say hello to the patrons. I would eat here every day if I could!
We found the service and atmosphere outstanding, the food delivery outstanding, presentation outstanding. My partner being vegetarian thought the food selection though a little 'bland' or similar through the different courses but it did not reflect badly on the overall dining experience.
Pre booked this restaurant based on oprevious reviewsa and we were not disappointed. The service was fantastic and the
menu unlike anything we had tasted before. So many unusual flavours and he pre dinner canapes were a real treat.
The restaurant manager made each dish come alive with his description of the ingredients. The service was excellent - unintrusive
and informative in equal measure. A real find - it made our visit to NY and have no doubt it will achieve its goal of 3 Michelin stars.
Words can not explain how great this restaurant is; from the food, to the service, to the entire experience, go for yourself. It's a bit pricey so it many not be for everyone but not only is it worth every penny but even more than that just alone from the service and the experience, then you get the food which has to be some of the best food I've had in a few places I've been around the world. I will definitely come back whenever I'm in New York again.
What can we say about Juni that hasn't been said (deservedly) hundreds of times. This is the real deal, a restaurant that exceeds our expectations even though we've dined here 3 times before and have sky high expectations. It makes me think of Annie Hall when Woody is trying to come up with a word better than love to express his feelings (I loave you, lurve you, etc.), I'm not sure that we can come up with a word to express our feelings for Juni. Normally my husband and I have the Chef's tasting because we want to experience every morsel of Shaun Hergatt's scrumptious creatively exceptional cuisine. However, we went for Valentine's Day, a day when we normally avoid restaurants due to the overpriced and mediocre menus offered that day, but we knew that it would be special at Juni, and we were so right. They offered a 5 course menu (not counting the fabulous array of clever amuse-bouches) with a choice of 2 dishes for each course, and every bite was sublime. The wine pairings were equally enjoyable, delivered with panache by the knowledgeable sommelier Daniel. And as if otherworldly food was not enough, there's supremely comfortable seating in a serene atmosphere, a delightful team who cannot do enough to make your visit wonderful and of course Shaun, chef extraordinaire and just a darn charming guy. I know I'm gushing, but if you haven't tried Juni, treat yourself. You deserve it.
We went to Juni with high expectations and we were not disappointed. We had the four course option with accompanied wines. We were very pleasantly surprised with seven amuse-bouches who came in amazing presentations (including stones and driftwood in some cases). Will definitely come back!
Went on a Friday for brunch, had to book a fair bit in advance but the staff was extremely friendly, the menu was simple without hundreds of obscure options, instead it offered very interesting combinations of ingredients prepared in unique, artistic, and most importantly delicious ways that were just fantastic. It was a treat for the eyes and the mouth. Would highly recommend it, and when we visit NYC again it will certainly get another visit from us. Five stars.
Juni was a great surprise. I thought it was going to be good, but it was truly amazing. The food and the presentation were very special, but at the same time everything was very discrete - the service, the sommelier was helpful. It deserves a star and even more in the future.
Juni continues to excel. The food preparation is exquisite, with each dish not only complex and reflecting amazing combinations of ingredients and flavors, but each presentation is a work of culinary art. Chef Hergott continues to outdo himself, with all the more subtle and innovative presentations. I have been several times now, and have yet to be disappointed. This last visit the most exquisite item was a small leaf floating in oyster water that exuded the taste of an oyster in the mouth. The only weakness is the wine list, which is rather elementary, and the $50 corkage fee a bit high as a consequence.
Didn't like chef Shaun Hergatt's Wall Street restaurant, so I was skeptical of Juni, but I was totally won over by the gracious service and toothsome food. Juni's decor is reserved yet elegant in a reserved, modern fashion, and the cuisine is inventive, contemporary, and delicious. I've already made a reservation to return.
Sensational in every regard; cannot wait to return.
Came across Juni on an Internet search engine. Sounde nice so we booked for my daughters birthday.
We could not have anticipated our experience.
The service was impeccable and the food was some of the best we've eaten.
The chef has a well deserved Michelin star and is aiming for a second.
At least half a dozen amuse bouches preceded our 4 course dinner - though you could opt for 6 or 10 and petit fours followed - all for $90!
Not a place to go every week, but for a special occasion it was amazing!
The food is delicious as well as a work of art. Supreme, delicate, and seasonal is the menu. The restaurant has a bit of a business atmosphere but it is quiet and perfect if you want to talk and hear your conversation. The service is excellent. The staff is knowledgable and accommodated my food allergy without a hiccup. We dined at a leisurely pace and was not rushed out. I would highly recommend it. However, the price reflects the food and service so some may want to go only for special occasions. I am happy to go anytime.
