Julia's of Wallingford Ratings and Reviews
We were a party of 8 for Saturday breakfast/brunch, celebrating my daughter's 19th bday. I made arrangements ahead of time with Lauren, and she could not have been more accommodating, personable, and professional. A table was set up and ready for us upon arrival, service was excellent, the food was delicious and all meals were hot upon delivery. It was a terrific experience and we will most definitely return. Thank you Lauren and staff for making my daughter's birthday so special. See you next time. Cindy.
I enjoyed my visit to Julia's for lunch with a friend. The menu options included exactly what we wanted - a soup and sandwich combo for a reasonable price. There was one problem with my meal. The meat in my sandwich was a bit tough and stringy, but it was tolerable and I didn't want to complain. I was more interested in enjoying my conversation with my friend. We hadn't seen each other in a long time, so we had a lot of catching up to do. We appreciated having the opportunity to talk as long as we wanted to.
The service was excellent. Our server was friendly and efficient and he was available as needed without being intrusive.
As for whether the atmosphere was quiet, I would say it might have been a little better if the volume of the sound system had been a little lower.
Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience and I would be happy to go there again.
Service was slow despite the low attendance, the burger I ordered was way overcooked, the fries and hashbrowns were very undercooked, the English muffins in the eggs benedict was also not very cooked. Mimosas were ok if small. Very disappoint, won't be back.
I was disappointed that although I had put in a reservation via Open Table, the restaurant did not have my name down. When I made them aware, they put me at the bottom of the list of walk-ins then forgot that I was on the list! I would recommend calling the restaurant directly.
Great for families. When children pick a place it isn't always - as in fast food - a place where grownups would be happy. Julia's is. In addition to that, it has gluten free bread. And, since Taste discontinued its Reuben sandwich, Julia's is the only place in this end of Seattle which has the Reuben.
I've loved going to Julia's since it was the original Julia's 14 Carrot Cafe. The last couple of years the quality of the food has gone downhill, and it's a less pleasant place to spend time. Last Sunday was the last time we'll be going. I say this with much sadness, but the all the food for 3 of us was inedible. We could not cut the muffin on the Benedict with a steak knife, the crepes were gummy, the hash browns were mushy, the coffee was weak - we left almost everything on the plate, but the server said nothing, also no coffee refills. Service was quick: the instant we put our forks down the plates were taken away, and immediately all the water glasses were also cleared off. (There were empty tables the whole time.) Three breakfasts, three coffees and one mimosa ,and a tip came to $80. So disappointing, but won't be hoping it was a fluke and giving it another try.
I was hesitant to visit Julia's in Wallingford because of some of the negative reviews on their service. We were a little over a mile away so we risked it. Fortunately we were seated in Daniel's section. Daniel gave us 5 star treatment from the initial drink order straight until it was time to go. He was warm and inviting. We felt very comfortable there.
The food was great. He made sure that our order came out exactly as requested.
When I go back I will certainly ask for Daniel.
We all know it's all about the server and the food. 2 for 2.
Mother's Day breakfast (only it was on the day before to miss the crowds). Good pancakes. Sausage patties slightly spicy and quite tasty. Coffee was good and refills came often. My daughter said the hot chocolate was tasty. Wife had the egg scramble with tomato and feta cheese. Could have stood more of the feta but it was good. Nice ambiance and friendly, efficient service. Located in the lovely Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle. Have eaten at Julia's a few times over the years and it has remained a consistently good dining experience.
This was our second time at Julia's using an Open Table reservation. The first experience was not good as the service was very poor and portion of corned beef hash amounted to about a quarter of a cup... I did write up a rather not very complementary review. However, this second visit we ordered off the lunch menu and everything was good, not greasy or over sauced.. a good serving amount, and our waiter was very attentive and appreciative of a good tip whereas before the waitress told us that automatically 18 percent was added to the bill... and we sure wished we hadn't contributed that amount for such poor, slow service; we saw her one time and she had messed up the order because she really was not listening to what we ordered and didn't seem to care.
Anyway, that was then and like I said, everything went fine this last time. I don't see that we got credit on Open Table for two visits, however, so I sure would like that to occur!!!
My husband and I were a bit disappointed by the service at Julia's.. the waitress shrugged when asked about the corned beef and eggs so I was left with indecision; somehow she got the order wrong, too, as she wasn't really focused on what we were saying, I guess. We had to ask for water and coffee refills... the corned beef portion was about 1/3 c. with the tiniest pieces of corned beef and couscous sized pieces of potatoes.. some chopped peppers (thankfully) so I can see why the waitress didn't recommend it. It did come with 3 poached eggs. Anyway, the Louisiana egg scramble my husband ordered was a much better choice. Coffee $3.00? I could suggest better breakfast places!
My wife was returning after a 10-day trip, arriving at the airport at 1:30pm, so I booked a late lunch at 2:30. We arrived promptly at 2:25 to find Julias....closed.
I'm not sure whether I'm more upset at OpenTable or Julias. Open Table, which cheerfully took my reservation and sent me a confirmation, or...Julias whose front door posted their hours as being open until 3pm. And the person who came to the door to tell me they don't accept reservations after 2:00pm.
Had I known they closed at 3pm, I would never have booked a 2:30 reservation. But this whole experience was SUPER LAME for both Open Table and Julias.
We had a birthday lunch for my girlfriend last Monday which was MLK day. When we were seated (the restaurant was slammed) we were told that the menu was breakfast only. Well it turned out to be a blessing because the food was amazing! Our waitress was super rushed but had a great attitude and sense of humor. The bus boy was funny and said he worked somewhere else but came over to help the staff. Loved the servers and know they were working hard. Julia's owners should be proud!
I am sorry to say that this was not the Julia's that I remember from years past. The menu was a breakfast only menu at 12:30 and the breakfasts were not nearly as well-prepared as in the past. When friends asked if drinks were available, our waitress mentioned only juice, tea and coffee. Only later we saw that wine was served. The food was mediocre at best, the service was terrible. Our waitress was surly and never came by once the food was delivered. (No chance for dessert as the check was delivered before we could ask.)
I'm afraid this is our last visit.
Our friends flew in for a quick meeting and brunch together....Julia's popped into my head as it was easy to find, easy to find parking, great options foe brunch and we had a great 2 hour talk fest and then walked over to Wallingford building and talked for another hour! Lovely times and wait staff very accommodating . Thank-you!
I really liked Open table reservation system!
Julia's is a wonderful neighborhood gathering place, and we were lucky to come at a time when it wasn't crowded. My two companions had breakfast (a spinache omelet and eggs Benedict). I had lunch (chicken gyros). The food was hearty and tasty, the waiter was forgetful and a little surly. Maybe he was weary after the morning rush-he certainly wasn't the typical friendly waitperson we encounter there. Definitely we will return, but we'll hope for a happier waiter.
Terrific service from the host who seated us straight away in a cozy corner and checked w us, to the friendly waitstaff, who kept my coffee cup filled. My husband had the biscuits and gravy w eggs: best in town. I had the "just right" huevos rancheros. Good home style breakfast!
Great surprise find after our Sunday 1pm Matinee of Charlie Brown Christmas at Taproot Theatre.
Wish you were open later, as we reserved for 2:30pm without knowing you closed at 3:00 pm.
Host was gracious, but we and other 3 tables were a little rushed through our meal.
Next time, we will come earlier now knowing your hours. We will be back!
This was the first dinner out for my mother who recently went to live in a nursing home. It was Thanksgiving day and she was so excited to be able to get dinner out until we realized that Julia's took reservations even though they were closed that day. It was really devastating for my mom who had so looked forward to a holiday out with her family.
Only had brunch here, over the years. Food is consistently good, service is consistently questionable. Always amazed how long it takes to get the food, even when it's not busy. Very loud and hard to chat. That all said, it's a Seattle institution and a good weekend brunch option.
We like Julia's, in general -- the atmosphere is warm and light, it's family-friendly and good for get-togethers with friends, and they have a menu with plenty of variety and flexibility for meeting different dietary needs. On this particular visit, our server was pleasant enough, but not very effective, and there were a number of mistakes and missing items in our order. Still, we'll probably go again sometime, and hope that this was just a one-off.
Most memorable was the outstanding and super friendly service by the server from Hamburg, Germany. He had this contagious smile.
Food: the chorizo scramble was to die for. Well seasoned and perfect temperature.
Cons: yes - there is one. The potatoes could have been fried a little more to give them a little crunch.
