SPIRITED DINING AND DRINKS IN SANTA FE

In 1882, Abraham Staab, a European immigrant who became one of Santa Fe’s most prosperous merchants, built a Victorian mansion on property that now belongs to La Posada. Abraham’s elegant wife, Julia, entertained local society and visiting dignitaries in incomparable style. Legend has it that Julia so loved her home that she has never left it.

Today, we celebrate Julia Staab as our muse and honor her name and legendary hospitality with the opening of Julia, A Spirited Restaurant & Bar. The restaurant features innovative, locally sourced dishes as well as an extensive selection of fine wines and spirits.

We have eaten here a number of times... very nice. Then there was this past week. Took a dear friend for a special dinner. Special it was. Ordered a variety of things, but for myself, octopus followed by mussels was the fare. After a longgg wait the octopus arrived, lots of sauce, hard to fine the meal.... then the mussels finally arrived.... strange they should be cool.. never had them this way. Bread? No bread! My friend's noted similar. What are mussels without bread? We asked and after a long struggle between the refrigerator and oven a very small corn bread in a very hot iron pan arrived. That's were the heat for the mussels went. Clever! And the poor server who tried so hard, but it seemed like his first night and he was actually shaking as he bravely carried out the food.

Normally we love this place but with only 3 other tables occupied, it seems word had quietly slipped out and we were not on the informed list. Julia... get it together. raise the kitchen's standards by first advising them there are standards in Santa Fe... train the poor server and give him a chance to learn his trade before being subjected to the real thing.. and for God's sake
serve a proper bread with (warm) sea food..... The legislature is in town. Where is your pride?

The wait staff was very attentive and provided great service. The waiter made several suggestions and we each had his suggestions. The red chili pork short rib was excellent. The red chili sauce was perfect and the meat fell off the rib bone. The meat was tender and tasted great. The steak was prepared as requested and was tender. The salmon was also excellent.

Out of first choice; one tamale was great but the second one couldn’t be cut into it was so hard. They brought another tamale and it was as fabulous as the first one.

Food was mediocre- service was very poor- waiter did not even check on us to see if we liked our food- my wife had an issue with her meal and we had to wait almost 20 minutes for the waiter to come to speak with us.

Three of us had breakfast at Julia's Christmas Day. Great food, good service especially considering the crowd. Best hash browns I've ever had.

Christmas Eve dinner...seated over 30 minutes late, once seated...no wait staff, no water...nothing for another 20 minutes. We had to seek out and request wait staff. Served soup....no spoons. Entree cold and had to go back. Finished at 10:20...for an 8pm meal. Special Christmas Eve price fixed dinner...so very disappointed

The food was horrible and the service was even worse. We were very excited about celebrating Christmas dinner at this place but we couldn’t wait to leave. The dinner was a preset dinner and we had to wait for about 1 hr to get the appetizer never got the 3er course. Just not the best experience 😩

Xmas vacay! In beautiful Santa Fe. Warm smiling wait people, fantastic heritage architecture and inspirational art everywhere. 4 different Benedict’s to choose from, local gourmet ingredients for omelettes and black coffee with a pow! We had a great breakfast brunch.

Saw some reviews dissing the service and the food. That was not our experience at all; server David was knowledgeable, personable, and efficient. Food was very very good, and not the run of the mill selection. Some unique items and all nicely presented and extremely tasty. We have sure as hell paid a lot more for a lot less. No complaint at all. We'll go back.

Our sever Tanya was gracious and a joy. Made our experience lovely.
Food was very good just needed to be hot. Our group of girls just
had so much fun. Loved the art & the fact the home was incorporated

Terrible experience. Even though we had a reservation, we were seated 45 minutes after our reservation time. There were several empty tables so I can’t understand the reason for that.
It took a while for someone to notice us. They took our wine order, that arrived long after we ordered.
Nobody showed up to take our food order and in the meantime we noticed other guests complaining about food and service.
We decided not to extend our “suffering” any longer and decided to leave.
It was extremely disappointing. It was reservation only Thanksgiving dinner, with a pre -set menu. How do you manage to mess it up?

The family style on Thanksgiving night was a bad idea - for the waiters (double work) and for the customer. Had to wait 10 minutes for every additional item needed. Everything from serving spoons to veggies. Then the meat wasn't warm by the time veggies were brought.
Double the trouble, triple the dirty dishes and half the service due to shortage of waiters and food was not prepared/done at 6pm.
Would have much preferred ordering turkey, dressing and three sides all as an order.
We're told they only bring bread if we had asked for it, which we would have asked had we known we had to ask
