In 1882, Abraham Staab, a European immigrant who became one of Santa Fe’s most prosperous merchants, built a Victorian mansion on property that now belongs to La Posada. Abraham’s elegant wife, Julia, entertained local society and visiting dignitaries in incomparable style. Legend has it that Julia so loved her home that she has never left it.
Today, we celebrate Julia Staab as our muse and honor her name and legendary hospitality with the opening of Julia, A Spirited Restaurant & Bar. The restaurant features innovative, locally sourced dishes as well as an extensive selection of fine wines and spirits.

We are residents in Santa Fe and this is the second time we have been to Julia after a change in chefs. The quality of the food has been good overall but the service lacks the touches of a high end restaurant in Santa Fe. There are too many excellent restaurants in Santa Fe where the quality of food and service is exceptional. This is not the case at Julia’s. The food is really excellent, with an interesting menu. The Restaurant is in the La Posada hotel and compliments the hotel nicely.
It would not take many changes to improve the service with a change in attitude and proper training.
Have live part time in Santa Fe for 26 years. For some reason we never ate here. Perhaps because it was "part of a hotel". Big mistake. It was lovely and the food, ambiance and service first class. Yes, it was a Tuesday night and it was November, but even with this going against it the overall experience was a stand out even for Santa Fe.
The food, service and ambience were barely worth mentioning. Maybe we expected too much but when we arrived they were still sweeping the floor and chatting amongst themselves while we ate mediocre meals that were certainly overpriced for quality and presentation.
We will not return, there are too many excellent choices without wasting time and money on this
We found Julia on Opentable, and it seemed like the right place at the right time: straightforward New Mexican menu across from our hotel. The space is elegant, if a bit formal. Unfortunately, the food was just average, or only a little bit above, and didn't, in my mind, justify the bill at the end of the meal.
Service was good up until I ordered my pork tenderloin. It was actually raw in the middle. Instead of making another plate, they had me put the pork on a smaller plate to take back and cook it longer. After they brought it back, surprise. It’s still raw in the middle.
We have come to Santa Fe twice a year for many years. This was our first time to eat at Sazon. We ate there twice on this one visit (a new first for us). Our new favorite restaurant. Truly innovative food with old world service. Top of the list in a city with a number of great restaurants.
Since the Management changed the food has gone down hill & the manager told us the overall appeal is being set to a lower expectation to draw more people in. Julua's has always been our go to for a moderate dining experience. Being locals here in Santa Fe we are disappointed to hear of this decision & will unfortinately be taking them off our list of go to restaurants for guests, special occasions, etc...also we didn't receive credit for dining there last night. The wait staff are good, but probably won't survive this transition.
Overall: Disappointing & no longer a good value or experience
We went here for lunch and when I walked in there was one party only in the bar area eating. No one greeted the two of us. After 8 minutes we finally got the waitress' attention. We sat at the table in the bar with the couch. We ordered a burger with fries and my friend ordered two tacos. When we received the meals, the French fries that came with the burger were lukewarm and tasted old. The burger had overly burnt sweet bacon that tasted like shoe leather. The shredded onion rings on the burger were cold so I scraped those off too. Sadly I ended up with a patty. My friends tacos came with two small tacos with three dried up baby shrimp on each. These cost $5.00 each which was ridiculous considering it was the price of an average meal. We will not be returning to this resteraunt nor recommend it. It's a shame because the appearance of the resort and spa seems so elegant . They could use a new chef and or manager in your resteraunt!
We were hère for a birthday célébration. The patio is lovely and thé hôtel has a beautiful art collection. The indoor dining room was empty so we chose to sit on thé patio. The food was excellent but unfortunately, thé service did not match thé level of thé kitchen. Perhaps our waiter was having a bad night as hé had to take care of thé entire patio by himself. We did not receive a very warm welcome. No one bottered to tell us that thé bottle of wine that we ordered was not available until we had finished our first course. It was too dark to see our food and a request for tea candles was ignored.
We will never go back to this restaurant.
Our table for 4 was not set up when we arrived; in fact there was a stack of tablecloths on one table and some of the other tables were askew.
Among the dishes we ordered, we had 2 orders of mussels; both came out lukewarm. When we asked for some bread to sop up the liquid 3 times, we finally got 4 dinner rolls and were charged for them. We told the waiter we wanted to share 2 house salads among the Four of us, but instead four small plates came out and we were charged for 4 salads.
Service was lacking, food was not good and not worth the price charged.
We were so looking forward to dining at Julia and unfortunately were sadly disappointed. We were seated outdoors on the beautiful patio near gently rushing water and attractive outdoor gas firepits and we thought "this is going to be great." It took quite a while before we got any attention from the waitstaff, then a much longer delay before our drinks arrived, then a still longer time passed before our orders were taken. We were promised fresh bread which arrived after about 10 minutes. When one of our party's salad plate was removed by our waiter, the silverware went with it and was not replaced until replacements were requested as the bread arrived. Three of the four entrees were judged quite good and the fourth (a pork dish) was partially burnt. Although not the fault of the property, several young children were running loose through the dining area, their parents seemingly unconcerned about any others' dining experience--this didn't help us or people at a few other tables we noticed have a quality experience. The absolute worst part of our time there was our waiter's lack of interest in us. Long periods of time would pass before we got any attention from him even though we could see him eating and conversing with other employees for extended intervals. He was rewarded with zero tip money and a note explaining why. We will not be giving Julia a second chance.
As usual, the lunch menu was creative and hard to choose what we wanted to eat. Went with the street tacos today and loved them! A fun place outside on a lovely day with friendly service. Thanks.
Have to say, however, that I was soooo disappointed to learn that the fabulous kale salad with salmon in a cheese basket is no longer on the menu. This was such a creative and amazing plate and it is now gone from the menu.
We heard there was a new chef and we wanted to try it out.
Hadn't had much prior experience, but what we learned was that Chef came from Cape Cod/Martha's Vineyard, and he knows his fish! Between us we had scallops, salmon and bass. Everyone was very pleased. And, being in the desert, there aren't that many seafood restaurants here...although, as someone pointed out once: the fish arrives in San Francisco restaurants frozen and it arrives in Santa Fe frozen too.
The preparation and presentation were very nice.
The service was OK....I ordered a bottle of Sancerre from the International White section. It was red! On the good side, they replaced it quite quickly; on the bad side, the food was served before the wine and the wine wasn't cold enough. Perhaps a "make good" was in order?
The restaurant is in a lovely hotel. Chef has to cover 3 meals a day, banquets, room service, etc. That's a challenge. We wanted to sit on the terrace, but it was threatening and there were only table umbrellas (as opposed to the increasingly frequent tents at other SFe restaurants with terraces/patios. And, while we had reserved for the terrace, we weren't told that the restaurant had a function that night and they couldn't seat us there. So we wound up at a table in the bar which worked out OK, but when a restaurant confirms a reservation outdoors during the monsoon season in Santa Fe, something should have been done to be prepared for a downpour.
Prices were good, although there weren't many wines below $50.
Parking is on the street (which can be an issue depending...) or valet.
Bottom line: We're definitely going back for fish.
We have been to Julia's several times and always thought the service and the food was great. It's a lovely restaurant and because of our good experiences previously, we wanted to treat visiting family to a great meal and a lovely place. Instead the experience was a bit disappointing. The wait staff was much less engaging and attentive than we've experienced (except for the host who shared the story of Julia with us) and two of our four meals were bad. While the food presentations were attractive, the pork was tough and obviously cooked the day before and the salmon was overcooked, dry, and tasteless. We will be back because one bad experience is likely the exception but it was disappointing.
Waited at the bar for two drinks 25 minutes then the glasses were dirty so took 10 minutes to find our server... hostess told us our table was ready but did not have a drink and then figured if it is this bad to start -we left!
Fabulous and fun with outdoor dining and music with Nacha Mendez! Celebrating sister's 70th birthday. Service was excellent with server, Justin and Chef John and Manager Daniel stopping by table and giving special attention to every detail and special request. Food superb. Thank you all for lovely evening!
Service was lacking. I had to flag down two different waiters, after large (30 minute) gaps between visits from my waiter, in order to get service.
I saw a mouse scampering about, and although the setting was outdoors, I found it alarming.
With so many great restaurants in Santa Fe, I would never go back to Julia again.
Disappointed with service, took a long time to receive drinks and food order. It was our 30th anniversary, as I mentioned in the special occasion box, but nothing special was done. Hindsight - should have gone to a different restaurant.

I have taken multiples of guests to dine at lunch & dinner.
BUT, NO LONGER.................
It was my grandson's 22nd birthday. I bragged to the party of 5 how wonderful it was and how excited I was to take the group there for a fabulous dinner.
We arrived and were seated outside. It was very windy & cold. We asked if they could provide a fire or bring heat lamps. We were told the electrician was off on Thursday evening and no one was able to assist.
We asked to be moved inside.
We were seated in a long booth area. Right inside the door - It was actually colder in this location, due to the wind tunnel that the open doors caused.
We finally ask if the doors could be shut - since only 2 people were eating on the patio.
NO MUSIC what-so-ever, and we could hear all the kitchen help yapping their heads off.
When I complained - piped in music was turned on - very loud, as in order to punish us.
The restaurant was NOT busy at all - no reason for poor service...
Appetizer took 10 minutes to bring out - chips and dips - this was OK.
We were served a luke warm dinner one hour and 10 minutes later.
We were Never asked for a second drink order. We were forgotten in the corner.
Salmon was fishy tasting - I have eaten this many times before and it was great - However, it was chilly and tough. The other person having salmon agreed.
My grandsons curry was cool and disappointing.
I wrote on OPEN TABLE this was a birthday dinner so the restaurant would know -

When we were asked to order desert we all ordered - Nothing was said about a birthday wish or a desert.................
JUST AWFUL - THE ENTIRE NIGHT- We paid the 250.00 bill and I was so happy to leave
We have NEVER had such a succulent and perfect mixture of flavors served so eloquently --our entrée was Halibut and it was served with Israeli couscous and a delightful sauce with a variation of ceviche. Define and we will return for more! It was a very busy evening with special event so our table and the server were not up to par but that was no big deal, we had great cocktails and wine to enjoy.
Wait staff brought brought appetizers with entrees. Steak was cold. Medium request came as rare. Salad too small. Had to ask for TV off on wall behind us. Poor changeover of staff. Dirty menus. Ordinary. Name is misleading.
this was such a disappointing evening - we waited to be seated, there were no menus, no seats outside - when finally seated, the manager did make our evening better with a wonderful bottle of wine - the chili potatoes were great, but the only part of the meal that was good - the steak was tough, the Kale salad bland, tough greens and no candied pecans. The space is cute and great potential, sorry the restaurant could not deliver - I was going to give Julia's the benefit of the doubt, but I have talked to others who say that the restaurant has failed them time and time again - never again for us
Food quality overall was below average to poor Wednesday night. My Halibut was overcooked, as were the short-ribs ordered by my husband. We ordered sautéed kale as a side dish, but were delivered a small bowl of wilted spinach. We asked the waiter to return it and bring us kale. The kitchen dumped the spinach from the bowl onto a small plate and returned it to our table. I again told the waiter that we ordered kale and not spinach--he insisted what he brought was kale and left it on the table. It was definitely spinach.
The restaurant décor needs attention. We were seated at a small table opposite a wall with peeling paint, and a fireplace hearth that looked like it hadn't been cleaned for months.
