Juban’s was closed. I had reservations for 7:30 Saturday night and when I got there a sign on the door said it was closed until further notice. It seems Open Table should know when a restaurant is not open.
We enjoyed our dinner at Jubans very much in spite of the pandemic threats. My spouse had never been there and I had told him it was one of the finest restaurants in Baton Rouge and we were going there to celebrate his birthday. We felt safe withe masked service people and the distancing. The food was outstanding! We will look forward to them reopening so we can return!
Went during phase 2, so fewer tables and spaced out, but everything the restaurant could do to cope with the situation was excellent. Hate to see them close again, but will be back when they reopen
We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with our family. The meal was excellent and we had a wonderful time.
Always pleasant. Quiet, great ambiance, New Orleans french architectural appearance.
Wonderful. Waiter was excellent and very knowledgeable.
Great meal, great service, clean, prompt, social distancing, highly recommend
This could have been a 5 but for one major shortcoming: they totally forgot to bring out our salads. After the appertizers were served, we sat alone for some time before the entrees were brought out. Only then did our waitress discover the wedge salads had never been served. Otherwise, we had a very good meal and evening.
Good overall, I would return...portion size was decent and dishes were fresh, menu scaled back due to just reopening.
My husband loved his lamb dish but 2 days later I still feel ill from the salmon.
as always Juban's is one of my most favorite places to eat. they take good care of you, food is out standing. alittle different than before, but still excellent food.
We ordered from the Spring Special menu. The appetizer Crab Remick was incredible, with large pieces of crabmeat throughout. The entree was the potato crusted gulf fish. The presentation was beautiful and it was delicious. The dessert was Hallelujah chocolate cake with blueberries. Decadent, and not too sweet. Service was friendly, attentive, yet unobtrusive. Juban's never disappoints.
Excellent food and service. If you are
visiting Baton Rouge, put this at the top of your list to go and enjoy.
Our dinner was excellent. Service was spot-on. Redfish was prepared well, and the gumbo had a beautiful dark roux with rich flavor. We will definitely eat here again!
I was very impressed with the food and the service. A friend recommended Juban's and I must say it was a great recommendation. The staff was very accommodating and made sure I knew about all the options for brunch. The food really lived up to hype.
I want to start this by saying that the manager did try to make things right. I have eaten many special occasion meals over the past 25 years at Juban's, so it pains me to write this review.
Here is the short version: We went there for a belated Valentine's Day dinner, and I left without eating my entree.
Details: The restaurant had a team of servers. The waitress in charge of drinks appeared immediately, before my husband could look at the cocktail list. We got our drinks no problem, and he enjoyed his. While we waited, another waitress attempted to give us someone else's appetizer. After some more time passed, the waiter arrived and enthusiastically described their fish special. My husband ordered Veal Piccata (a regular menu item). I ordered the lamb shank special. He ordered their bacon spinach salad, and I ordered their broccoli soup. Soup and salad appeared as expected. My soup wasn't as creamy as I would have liked, and it was a bit too spicy.
After even more time passed (the dining room was far from full), our entrees arrived. Husband got his. In front of me, the waitress put... The fish special. I might have eaten it anyway, but the fish smelled old. And I didn't order that. Away went the plate. My husband ate while I waited. And waited. They offered me soup. I'd had enough soup. My husband stopped eating when he realized that my entree would not arrive anytime soon. Eventually, the manager appeared. I told him to just box my meal to go. He said they would take the entree off the bill, and that was cool. My husband sent his mostly uneaten entree to get boxed up.
A very long wait later, the manager brought us our go boxes. He added a dessert and comped us the meal. Like I said at the beginning of this review, he tried to make it right.
I have yet to find out if their lamb special was worth the hassle. By the time I got home, I had lost my appetite.
Sorry, Juban's, but I won't do any more "special occasion" dinners with you in the near future.
The best fine dining in baton rouge. We were able to meet chef Frederick who was very nice and respectful. The food was perfect. I enjoyed the lamb rack, med rare, would definitely recommend. My wife wife loved their original dish the hallelujah crab, impeccable presentation and taste. Overall the best place to go in baton rouge. Great wait staff. Great food.
Service & food is always impeccable
Really pathetic experience for what is supposed to be a premium restaurant. Long story short is that it took forever for our food to come out, and when it did, my food was cold, so apparently they forgot or messed up my wife's entree, since hers was hot. I sent mine back because of it being cold, so they apparently microwaved my fried softshell crab but did nothing to the rest of the plate. We had been there by probably an hour and a half by then, so I just tried to eat it and gave up about halfway through. Sad for a place that used to be so good.
Dinner was so delicious, I had the sea bass special and my boyfriend had the two bird dish. Both were extraordinary. We shared a bottle of jubans red wine and had such a nice time. The staff were very pleasant and attentive. We also were given a dessert on the house and it did not disappoint. We will go back again very soon!
Whole lotta meh. Nothing really wowed us except the creme brulee. Expensive for what it is.
The service was great. I ordered the pinion meneure which ended up being redfish. I guess I should have asked what kind of fish was in the dish before ordering. I’m not a big fan of redfish but some restaurants do an okay job making sure that it looks and SMELLS appealing. That was not the case here. My husband ordered the redfish Adrian and he was disappointed as well, again looked and smelled unappetizing. I did like my pecan rice but I left half of the fish on the plate. Too pricey for that to happen but it would have ended up in the garbage anyway if I had taken it home. Doubt we’ll be back. Way overpriced for what they’re serving.
Food and service was amazing. We’ll definitely be back!
They have some unique menu items and all is prepared very well.
Wonderful Valentines dinner!
Valentines and Birthday
Valentine’s Day date it was so great first time there and the food awesome the servers were great!!!
Dinner was terrific, the wine was great and the service was impressive!
Better than Commands Palace in New Orleans!
Made reservation month in advance, was never informed that they would be working with a limited/pre fixe menu for Valentine’s Day. They were not flexible in allowing a selection from the pre fixe menu to be selected a la cart, so the Fish we eventually selected was mushy instead of being firm and flaky. This was not the experience that I expected nor was it worth the amount of money that I paid. I don’t plan on going back anytime soon.
Limited menu for Valentine’s Day not ideal
After 21 years of celebrating the anniversary of our engagement, we’re moving on. Restaurant was only half full but waitress was very inattentive. The water guy finally took our order after sensing our frustration. We didn’t receive the complimentary sweet potato chips that my wife likes and the bread came with no butter. It had a nasty taste. The $38 crab cakes were delivered barely luke warm. Really?! The redfish Adrienne was wonderfully cooked but was presented on top of barely warm vegetables, mushrooms, crabmeat and sauce. If the food was delivered hot from the kitchen, I would not be typing this as we were able to work around the invisible waitress. Premium prices should result in premium service and premium (hot) food. Juban’s struck out all around.
Very sad to see a once superior restaurant go downhill like this one is apparently doing.
Never had a bad meal. Gumbo is outstanding
Excellent lunch enjoying wonderful soft shelled crab!
Great food. Decent staff. Good venue but needs some updating. So loud in our dining room we couldn’t hear the waiter or our own conversation.
Negatives: Went for my 35th birthday and we were seated so close to the next table that the waiter couldn’t get to my husband to serve him. The next table was extremely loud (65+ crowd) and we were so close that it was difficult for us to talk at a table of 4. The BBQ shrimp was so overcooked that they were impossible to peel, and the sauce tasted like “dirt” to quote my friend. The $38 red snapper dish came out lukewarm. My husband’s broccoli I was so hard that he was unable to cut it with his dinner knife. I waited 20 minutes for my water to be refilled, and it was only after I’d asked the waitress for water.
Positives: duck poppers and Tasso shrimp were a hit, and the hallelujah crab was exceptional as always. I’ve been here before and have had 5 star food AND service, so expectations were high. Spoke with the manager as we left and he promised to address above with the chef.
Note: it was restaurant week so it was much more crowded than usual. They must have been short staffed.
Terrific restaurant for a date nite.
Great atmosphere. Even though the restaurant had 2 private parties the service was quick and attentive. The food was excellent.
We greatly enjoyed every part of the meal! The portion sizes were ideal. There was a lot of flavor. The drink and when options were expensive. Our servers really took great care of us.
