Sushi
At Jū-Ni, we focus on the fish. Our name means "twelve" in Japanese. This signifies the number of seats around our sushi bar, and also the number of courses in our Omakase experience. Chef Geoffrey Lee and his team skillfully guide diners through twelve course of nigiri consisting of fish from around the world. The majority of our fish is flown in twice weekly from Tsukiji Market in Tokyo. Chef Lee combines old world technique with modern flourishes to create a memorable progression of flavors and textures in your Omakase experience. We hope that you’ll join us soon.

Please note, that we have a 48 hour cancellation policy.

This restaurant is fantastic. It is expensive, but, in my opinion totally worth it. Our chef was Steve Kim, and just watching him transform our meal right in front of us was like watching a show. Food is excellent -- fresh, unique and just plain fantastic. Honestly, while the price is high, we both felt that it was a night out with a show and excellent food. A must try for anyone looking for a spectacular night out. Thank you Chef Steve Kim!!

We are not sushi or sake aficionados so we cannot fairly rate our meal as worth the price. The sushi was delicious, uniquely prepared and seasoned to bring out the flavor of each fish. The sake was interesting - served in wine glasses - but seemed rather expensive (cheapest offering was $14/glass). The wine was definitely overpriced at $15/glass and $75/bottle for La Follette Chardonnay which we can get at Falletti's for about $20. If you are a sushi aficionado and have money to burn this place is probably worth a return visit. Not sure that is us.

Very personal experience with one Sushi Chef per 4 guests. We were able to talk with our chef continuously about the food and other topics. Obviously it is pricey but well worth it and on par with similar experiences. Every bite was amazing and we were very full by the end of the regular tasting menu, though we did see many others ordering supplements after. Great service and beautiful, memorable sushi.

The chef is very ignorant and does not know anything about sushi. He believes that "SF sushi is on par with Tokyo". He over seasoned a few sushi. He had the finger lime from Australia and added onto a nigiri. It has a good taste but he added way too much of it, overpowering the taste of the fish itself. Later on, I ordered a Toro nigiri after the Omakase was over. This gentlemen next to me ordered the same thing. However, the gentlemen cannot eat oyster so he didn't get the oyster in the beginning of our Omakase. Both the oyster and the toro has caviar on top for seasoning. At this point, the chef told the gentlemen sitting next to me "Since you didn't get the caviar from the oyster, i am going to give you more for the toro". For someone that knows sushi, that is total nonsense since you are suppose to add the optimal amount of caviar to make the nigiri taste the best. Adding more just makes us know you don't know anything about sushi, completely unacceptable. Not only that, the lady sitting to the right of me and the Chinese gentlemen on the left of me both ordered the Hokkaido deep sea uni. However, the chef was only kind enough to give the lady another small piece of Santa Barbara uni to see the difference; but he didn't do the same with the Chinese gentlemen. When the gentlemen asked for a small piece of Santa Barbara uni, the chef gave him and charged him a full sushi. Its not that the money matters but he shouldn't treat people who ordered the same thing differently. Totally unprofessional and unacceptable. The whole dining experience was a disaster and I will never want to go back again. I have had sushi everywhere (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, New York, Taipei, Hong Kong, Shanghai) and tried Jiro, Saito, Shikon, Masa, etc. many times. Of course, I am not comparing Ju-Ni to the best sushi restaurants in the world, but I still wonder how it got One Star to begin with. I found out later that the original chefs are mostly gone, that is why the quality plummeted.

Just okay. For a $400 dinner (for two people), I feel like the meal should be outstanding. I have had sensational meals at other places like Wako and Kabuto for half the price. The dinner was good but not great. The salmon and most of the other fish was farm-raised. We won't be back. However, Ju-Ni does have a very nice atmosphere and the overall experience was pleasant.

This was possibly the best dining experience I have ever had. Top three for sure. Attention to detail is the theme here. Not a speck of anything out of place. 1 chef for each four diners ensures a close interaction. Wait service and ambiance was impeccable. The food is the real star. Here is where the attention to detail shines. Each piece we were served was a lovingly prepared run through memories. I left here more satisfied by a meal than I have been in years. It is expensive, but worth it. I could not recommend mroe highly.

Sit back and enjoy the ride. Very exclusive and special experience with talented sushi chefs. Only 3 chefs and 4-6 people per chef and only 2 seatings per evening. We had a great evening with Patrick and you'll enjoy dinner at his station. He was charming, pleasant and informative. And still left room and space for a my wife and I to have a fun, personal experience. Great evening, all in all, looking forward to the next dinner there.

This particular style of Omakase is not for me. I like my sushi prepared without relying on torching the fish for flavor. It's a tasty bite but it hides the fresh flavor of the fish. The most tasteful bite was the Hokaido scallop.... It was dressed plainly with their house soy sauce. I prefer a more disciplined and restrained approach to dressing sushi.

Beautiful restaurant with excellent service. They had an extensive list of interesting sakes that I have never seen before, and the server was knowledgeable about the sake and helpful with making a choice. There are three sushi chefs at the bar and 12 seats, so a chef serves a maximum of four diners at a time. Each piece of sushi is a work of art, and the chef we ate with was a true artist. The prices were high, but the experience was worth it. Definitely recommend!

Modern Omakase Ju-ni is the most recently opened sushi hot spot in the bay and I can finally see why. Our chef was Daniel, who was very personable and attentive, while also maintaining focus when cutting and making the nigiri. Overall the sushi was all great, very different than traditional edomae such as Wako and Kusakabe as they use a mix of vinegar and brown sugar in their rice. However, while each fish is delicious and fresh, there was a banal use of soy sauce and lemon and japanese sea salt on almost every other piece. The most creative pieces were the ikura with shaved ankimo, keigani with miso butter, scallop and the seared and smoked katsuo. For $90 and $34 extra for the supplements, Ju-ni is affordable compared to other omakase restaurants, yet getting other pieces will quickly elevate the price commensurate with that of Omakase and Kusakabe. They have a decent sake menu, and our server was kind and not pushy. Will definitely return once the seasonality of their fish changes.

Great food, ambiance and service overall. We did the 12 course plus the 3 standard supplements plus the hand role and then ordered Wagyu and Tamago ala carte. We are not large people and the 12 course alone would have left us hungry with the supplements and hand role it was just right and the additional two courses made us very full, but not bursting at the seams. All of the 12 courses were also top notch, with about half of them being really amazing and half being just really, really tasty good. The supplements showcasing 3 standout items that are available ala carte as well were some of the best out of everything and the handroll was also fantastic. Definitely go for the Wagyu as well. Service was outstanding- our sushi chef was fantastic. One of our servers removed a sake glass that he had just a little bit left in for one final taste and was apologetic when we pointed it out and replace the glass with a generous amount of sake that was far and above more than what was needed, showing such a graciousness and sense of hospitality, that is reflected in the service. Most times, the service is so perfect, one doesn't even notice/realize that their water glass has been refilled or plates replaced. Though some of that may have been the sake talking ;-) The ambiance was great as well. The only real negative however, was the tall sushi chef in the middle station our night, who did not serve us, had a habit of loudly clapping his hands and speaking loudly as well which was annoying and intrusive to other diners not at his station. His volume just pierced through and shattered what was the overall tone and vibe of the place in a way that doesn't fit and was noticeable to myself and other diners who I noticed seeming annoyed by him as well at the other station.

Service staff was attentive and helpful when we entered to choosing out cocktails and throughout the dining experience. Unfortunately, nigiri sushi was just ok given the $400 price for 2 people (drinks + omakase) and our chef had an arrogant attitude, which was not appreciated - in the way he conversed about other sushi restaurants to the way he directed how we should consume some dishes. The uni and house special (frozen pate w/ salmon roe) were delicious but couldn't redeem our satisfaction with the overall experience. Will likely not return.

Fish was fresh and delicious, and some good selection of fish. But, in comparison to Waku and Kusakabe, some of the other similar high end omakase restaurants in San Francisco, I would opt to go elsewhere. I feel that their offerings were not as unique as these other restaurants and I find the value to price ratio not as competitive as the other high end sushi restaurants in San Francisco. But, if you are sushi aficionado, worth a try for yourself to decide. But be prepared to be hungry upon leaving and the dessert course was merely a palate cleanser in my opinion.

exceptional quality fresh fish. sushi chefs entirely focused on the guest and their experience, explaining the fish, the cut, and the treatment of the fish. toppings/preparation was tasteful and not overbearing. possibly the best "value" for omakase in san francisco (not cheap, but freshest fish with the best preparation and personalized experience shouldn't be). this is the sushi spot to watch.
