I was very excited about jsix offering organic food. It had great ratings, so I made a reservation. There were maybe 5 people in the restaurant...the first bad sign. I asked why and they said it was due to the baseball game. Every other restaurant I walked by in the Gaslamp was packed.
Food sounded good on the menu but tasted blah! Steak was burnt. Very disappointed .
Best hamburger I've ever had.
Wow! The food is incredible! Absolutely delicious and the best kids menu I've seen in California!
Consistently one of my favorite restaurants in SD. I've been coming for years and have never been disappointed. Service is always amazing and the food absolutely delicious!
Half price wine in Wednesdays is great value. The menu had some interesting options and the meals themselves were fine but there are more 'rave-able' restaurants in town. If you go, don't pass up the brussel sprouts.
My husband and I had dinner here while visiting the city recently. It was later on a Monday evening so it was quite quiet but the room was pleasant and the staff very friendly.
I ordered the salmon which was served on a potatoe 'cake' with a surprising kick. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the vegetables added to a delightful meal. My husband ordered to scallops. This was also cooked perfectly, tender and enhanced by a lovely spicy sauce. I would definitely go back.
Nothing unique or special about this place unfortunately. Food was just OK, Nothing special but not bad either.
My only disappointment was that it was not ideal for a business dinner for a larger group (8+), if real business is to be discussed, since the noise level was high and a large round table was not an option. I am being very picky with this aspect since most places might have this same issue for a larger group. Other than that Jsix was great in all regards, our server was incredible, very attentive but not disruptive (I wish I could recall her name to give her the kudos she deserves) and the food was great!
Cannot say enough about the food. Probably the best meal I've had in a really long time.
Small menu, competent wine list. Walking distance to theater. Tasty food.
We opted to let the kitchen choose our meal with the five-course "Chef's Mercy" option. It was the right choice. Every course was delicious, as were the wine pairings (with one really interesting beer pairing thrown in). We keep debating our choice for top course - certainly the lobster course was wonderful, but ending the meal with a house-made strawberry pie? That was definitely a great finish to a very nice meal. The meal was nicely paced and the service excellent - attentive but not intrusive.
If you like cold food and bad service this is the place for you!
We ended up getting a private room and had the greatest time. It was literally like eating at a good friend's home with butler service!! They did an amazing job and the food was outstanding. Highly recommend this for a guaranteed perfect event!
Went and the service was terrible and we waited forever for our food. We came when it was not busy and no one there. Out of 6 meals only 1 person was happy with their egg sandwich. It looks like a contemporary cafe (which I love) but was disappointed overall. I will however give their rooftop a try and see if my opinion changes.
My wife and I were hoping to share a beautiful Valentine's Day lunch before heading off for our afternoon/evening activities and take a break from the kids. I scoured all the top Valentine's Day restaurants and based on location and menu offering, I selected Jsix. All of our restaurant options for that day listed their menus as a Valentine's Day Dinner Menu, a Valentine's Day Lunch Menu, or Valentine's Day Menu. All the descriptions seemed self explanatory. Jsix described their menu as a Valentine's Day Menu with no indication that it was strictly a dinner menu. When we arrived, we were given the standard menu and told that the Valentine's Menu was only for dinner. We also discovered that this happened with at least three other couples that were there for lunch. Suffice it to say, our Valentine's Day meal consisted of a turkey sandwich for me and a hamburger for my wife. Jsix's resolution: 25% off our $30 bill. Thanks? I recall that most restaurants do a better job to make the customer happy when their meal is late or prepared incorrectly. Jsix misled customers either through incompetence or bad intentions. I was intending to spend over $200 in food and drinks and enjoy a memorable meal. Instead I overpaid for a basic lunch that I could find at most cafes.
I was extremely disappointed in my experience. We went there for my birthday and I will probably never return. 3 of my friends, on 3 different occasions, told the waitress it was my birthday. She also heard us make a cheers to each other for my birthday. No one said she needed to sing me happy birthday, but she didn't even acknowledge it nor bring out a candle for my friends to wish me a happy birthday or anything. The service was terrible. We ordered a charcuterie board AFTER we ordered drinks... The board came and wasn't even served with the wine. My one drink was so weak, and I am not one to take anything back, but it literally tasted like water. Instead of apologizing and accommodating me, the waitress argued with me and told me she saw the bartender make it... Whether he made it right or not, it didn't taste good and she should've smiled and taken it back like anyone else in the hospitality and/or restaurant industry would know to do. I used to love going to Jsix but this is my first time going since they changed it and after such a terrible experience, will not go or recommend it to anyone else again.
Our complimentary first course was heavenly. The service was outstanding. Bravo!
Everything was great except that the waiter never cameback after serving my meal.
There was a group of 12 of us. No-one greeted us for 15 minutes and there was barely anyone there. Took almost an hour to get a drink...food and hour and half later. Food was good, although most of us wanted the steak but they were all out. Service was poor all around.
Our group of six had a wonderful dinner at Jsix. We were here for restaurant week and appreciated that the entire menu was available. I ordered the Crab and Pork belly soup, Butterfish and short ribs and the Panna Cotta. Everything was delicious. The waiter was attentive and welcoming.
Fresh, delicious food that was served in style..terrific atmosphere and cozy, urban design. Our server was attentive and helpful with her suggestions. We Cabi girls come to San Diego each January and we will definitely return!
We ate at JSix several times during a stay in the Gas Lamp Area. Given the choices in that neighborhood, it is a reflection of the quality of JSix. We both fell in love with the Butterfish and Braised Shortribs--a wonderful dish. JSix also has a great wine list.
I would also recommend the Sunday and Wednesday nights special. Both are great values. The Wednessday night special is half-price wine: a great chance to try those high price wines about which you haved wondered.
A friend and I went to their NYE dinner for an early seating. I'm not really a New Year's Eve kinda guy but did want to have a lovely dinner. I wasn't disappointed. The four course dinner options were lovely and varied. Each one was prepared to order and really well balanced. Best of all our server Michelle was on top of things, charming and selected a wine for us for each course based on our tastes. Her wine game was totally on point. I would highly recommend Jsix.
Very good experience. They had couple thoughtful vegetarian options. Cool atmosphere and decor.
The ravioli was fantastic. Everything else was really good. The service was outstanding. We plan on going back during our next San Diego visit.
This is a nice restaurant. Food is nicely made and delicious. Somehow wasn't too busy at the Sunday night we visited. I do hope there are more people finding this is a nice restaurant.
You must go to the rooftop lounge while you are here!! It was wonderful for the bachelorette party we planned. Classy and fun!
My buddy had given us a gift certificate here...the service was great! food was good too! i would definitely go back.
My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at Jsix for dinner a few days ago and I will have to say it was one of the highlights of our trip to California! We shared the delicious poached asparagus for an appetizer and for our main course we were both delighted to have the ribeye steak salad and bacon wrapped tenderloin. The food was amazing, the staff was attentive, and the environment was the perfect mix of laid back Southern California and modern rustic décor.
This spot is a must stop for all people visiting the San Diego area.
Loved everything about this place. Great food, great service and great location.
Loved the squash blossoms!
The place was very empty although the neighborhood was pretty busy. Our starters were pretty good and service was great, but felt as if the same ingredients (mainly sauces and sides) were reused with the entrees and didn't really mesh.
Great food (could've been a bit hotter). Very good service. A bit loud.
We dined here and ate from the RW menu.
The fennel salami and burrata were a great way to start the meal.
My corn ravioli with chanterelles really hit it out of the park.
Swordfish with peas favas and lemon cream was outstanding.
Strawberry rhubarb tart was the perfect finish.
The food was great but sat 1 foot from the register so the ambience wasn't perfect.
The quality of the food (fine food) was the highlight of Jsix along with the very spacious comfortable tables. The pork wrapped in bacon as well as the swordfish were particular favarites. Service was very good--no complaints. Noise level was moderate although it was a Sunday night so hard to judge on a hopping Saturday night. Main problem was light level--even with good vision could hardly read menu. Regardless would definitely recommend Jsix emphatically.
The Brie appetizer had a great honey/chili dipping sauce. The "Mary's Chicken" main course was excellent as was the squash blossom appetizer.
We had a great dinner starting with a sampling of some small plate appetizers and ending with the JSix hamburger! JSix is one of our favorite restaurants. The farm-to-table organic restaurant regularly surprises us with tasty dishes.
Our service Was excellent! From the moment we walked in and were greeted to getting water and coffee. Our friends were late but out waiter was very attentive and patient.
