Jsix Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I was really looking forward to trying the menu at Jsix... But when we got there, the menu was actually one page of pretty unfortunate sounding items. I can honestly say I was very unimpressed. I ordered the Caesar and it was drenched in oil. We also got the pita and hummus. It was ok.
The first thing you're struck by when entering Jsix is the smell of chlorine. Maybe the hotel pool is located nearby. The decor is rustic industrial, nothing special but nice. My martini was strong, so I liked that aspect, but my wife's cosmo was average. The menu was a bit simple yet confusing, if that makes sense. I had the char-grilled opah, which was OK but was very expensive. My wife had the octopus. Again, nothing to write home about. We shared a dessert that was above par, but desserts usually are. The service was very good, but all other aspects were unimpressive. My wife and I don't make it into SD very often, so we always try to find a unique and overly satisfying dining experience. Jsix didn't fit the bill.
The food was great! My rib-eye was cooked perfectly and my wife enjoyed the Grilled Opah with risotto. That the restaurant provides validation for $10 parking at the hotel made it really easy to park on a Friday evening while the Padres were playing at nearby PetCo Park.
A quiet place to eat with Comic-Con craziness just outside the doors?
Yes, it's possibly. JSix filled the bill. The food was tasty and the service was excellent. People all around you, some in costume, some not, but all of us were having a good time at our respective tables.
My wife and I celebrated an anniversary here. We ordered the Chef's Mercy - a five-course meal with wine parings. The chef makes up what it will be daily depending on what is fresh and looks good. Ours was fantastic. Two of the courses I would order again in a heartbeat - some of the best food I've had. The others were very good, as well. Service was great - it took some time as the courses were individually prepared, but the server was friendly and knowledgeable. We will go back!
We arrived at 6:00 on a Thursday. We were the only people in the restaurant. We purchased the travelzoo voucher for $59, which gave us 2 drinks, 1 app, 2 entrees and 1 dessert. Everything was really good and had a good presentation. We loved the farm-to-table aspect. Good deal with the voucher, but would be fairly pricey without.
We were in San Diego for one night and wanted a place with good, creative drinks and healthy food choices. Jsix fit the bill perfectly. We had a nice, comfortable meal sharing many smaller dishes, a cocktail each and some nice affordable wine. The atmosphere was very pleasant.
Came here with a pre-paid coupon because I had heard a lot of buzz about this place. Was here from 6PM-8PM on a Tuesday night, and we were the only two people in the dining room that whole time. There were quite a few in the bar, but thought this strange. Must say we got a lot of attention from our waiter though! We shared a Burrata puff pastry dish which was OK (could have used less dough and more barrata though) although a little bland. My scallops were good and my friend's swordfish was also fine. We had a nice Pinot Gris as well, and finished off the meal with a flourless chocolate cake with banana gelato that we moist and tasty. Their website says they have valet parking available but no valets were found, and fortunately was able to find street parking within a couple blocks.
I was very excited about jsix offering organic food. It had great ratings, so I made a reservation. There were maybe 5 people in the restaurant...the first bad sign. I asked why and they said it was due to the baseball game. Every other restaurant I walked by in the Gaslamp was packed.
My only disappointment was that it was not ideal for a business dinner for a larger group (8+), if real business is to be discussed, since the noise level was high and a large round table was not an option. I am being very picky with this aspect since most places might have this same issue for a larger group. Other than that Jsix was great in all regards, our server was incredible, very attentive but not disruptive (I wish I could recall her name to give her the kudos she deserves) and the food was great!
We opted to let the kitchen choose our meal with the five-course "Chef's Mercy" option. It was the right choice. Every course was delicious, as were the wine pairings (with one really interesting beer pairing thrown in). We keep debating our choice for top course - certainly the lobster course was wonderful, but ending the meal with a house-made strawberry pie? That was definitely a great finish to a very nice meal. The meal was nicely paced and the service excellent - attentive but not intrusive.
Went and the service was terrible and we waited forever for our food. We came when it was not busy and no one there. Out of 6 meals only 1 person was happy with their egg sandwich. It looks like a contemporary cafe (which I love) but was disappointed overall. I will however give their rooftop a try and see if my opinion changes.
My wife and I were hoping to share a beautiful Valentine's Day lunch before heading off for our afternoon/evening activities and take a break from the kids. I scoured all the top Valentine's Day restaurants and based on location and menu offering, I selected Jsix. All of our restaurant options for that day listed their menus as a Valentine's Day Dinner Menu, a Valentine's Day Lunch Menu, or Valentine's Day Menu. All the descriptions seemed self explanatory. Jsix described their menu as a Valentine's Day Menu with no indication that it was strictly a dinner menu. When we arrived, we were given the standard menu and told that the Valentine's Menu was only for dinner. We also discovered that this happened with at least three other couples that were there for lunch. Suffice it to say, our Valentine's Day meal consisted of a turkey sandwich for me and a hamburger for my wife. Jsix's resolution: 25% off our $30 bill. Thanks? I recall that most restaurants do a better job to make the customer happy when their meal is late or prepared incorrectly. Jsix misled customers either through incompetence or bad intentions. I was intending to spend over $200 in food and drinks and enjoy a memorable meal. Instead I overpaid for a basic lunch that I could find at most cafes.
I was extremely disappointed in my experience. We went there for my birthday and I will probably never return. 3 of my friends, on 3 different occasions, told the waitress it was my birthday. She also heard us make a cheers to each other for my birthday. No one said she needed to sing me happy birthday, but she didn't even acknowledge it nor bring out a candle for my friends to wish me a happy birthday or anything. The service was terrible. We ordered a charcuterie board AFTER we ordered drinks... The board came and wasn't even served with the wine. My one drink was so weak, and I am not one to take anything back, but it literally tasted like water. Instead of apologizing and accommodating me, the waitress argued with me and told me she saw the bartender make it... Whether he made it right or not, it didn't taste good and she should've smiled and taken it back like anyone else in the hospitality and/or restaurant industry would know to do. I used to love going to Jsix but this is my first time going since they changed it and after such a terrible experience, will not go or recommend it to anyone else again.
