Joya Restaurant & Lounge
Food and service were great
We celebrated a birthday at Joya. I love this place and it was as good as the last time. I can’t wait to go again!
Service and atmosphere was great and the time with my wife was excellent. The tapas was very good but a bit bland as to what I had expected. On the other hand the Kobe beef mini-burgers were fantastic and worth the visit. We saw several people order their paella and had very positive comments about the dish. We will be back to try the paella in the future.
Very high quality of food and excellent service at Joya. Our server, Uriel, was fantastic and truly took great care of our party of 6 people. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone that asks for a top of the line location. Great ambiance as well. Absolutely a great experience!
The food here is absolutely terrible. The empanadas were cold and greasy so were the crab cakes. The coating was soggy and seemed like it just came out of a freezer. Everything we ordered came cold and it was so unflavorful. What’s up with the awful sauce in the empanadas?
The only somewhat decent dish was the lamb skewers.
Every sauce has mayo in it including the yogurt sauce that accompanied the lamb skewers.
I came here years ago and it was a decent place but man the food here has taken a turn to god awful.
One of the worst places we’ve eaten at on the Bay Area. Seriously sad.
We were greeted with a friendly smile and chose to sit outside under the heater. We ordered 2 martinis and when my friend wasn’t sure if she’d like it, our waitress said she could return it if she wasn’t happy. They were delicious! After quickly being served our ahi tuna, I asked the server for any of her favorite recommendations. We picked the chicken tostados and the seafood dish with yummy broth. They came quickly and were also very, very good. Our server then brought out our birthday dessert, we ordered a chocolate martini and our meal was complete. Another amazing dinner at Joya... end of story.
I arranged a work dinner at 530 for 12 people. The events coordinator was very slow to respond over email and sent me the old wine list to preselected the wine. After I chose the wine, I was told that it was no longer available. The banquet menu is overpriced and a very small selection so we decided to order off the regular menu. When we arrived, there was no hostess or bartender to be found to order a drink. The service was mediocre at best. The apps were good. I had the shrimp dinner and it was awful. I will not go back to Joya again especially for a client event. Overall, there are much better restaurants options in Palo Alto.
Service was pitiful. Although there were only a few tables occupied, service was slow, waiter took three tries to get order correct, then brought two entrees, both warm, ten minutes before he brought the third one, a salad. Only the ceviche was good. Tuna Niçoise salad was limp with excessive dressing, tuna was flavorless. Lamb appetizer was ordered rare and came dry and tough. Nice cocktail.
The food offerings were good, as was the service; but the noise level was such that conversation was nearly impossible.
We loved the food, presentation of the food, very friendly hosts and great timing. Highly recommend the sea food.
Service and food were both outstanding. We were promptly seated and the waiters and servers were quick to greet us and review the menu. Our waiter provided excellent suggestions for tapas and entrees which were enjoyed by all.
The warm dark chocolate cake was not so warm and the chocolate in the middle supposed to be creamy and it was not.
The Paella was OK - not super warm and the chicken was overcooked - it could have been better
We love to come here for special occasions! Great service ice and food.
It was the perfect place for our anniversary. Thank you
Wonderfully accommodating for allergy needs and delicious!
Wonderful meal - fun atmosphere, great food and excellent service.
Noisy. Waitress did not know the menu. We requested not spicy food and we're recommended food that was so spicy we had to send it back. Takes much too long for food to be served. We were told there was no bread in the restaurant, only to see bread served at another table. Wait staff needs more training. It was so bad I apologized to my guests for the bad experience. The ahi tuna and octopus were both excellent.
Waitress seemed a bit unhappy and overall not a great experience. We booked an early dinner for our anniversary and didn't even get a congratulations. Overall seems like the service and quality has diminished over the years.
The food was excellent. The service was a complete letdown. The server was clearly unhappy for some reason, never smiled, and was disappointing. I understand she was busy with four tables but she seemed happier serving the other tables. We were not rude and did not appear irritated with her service.
I would recommend the food - it was delicious, hot and looked good on the plates. The paella was wonderful.
Can't recommend the restaurant, though, because of the poor service. For the price, there are a lot of other places that will treat you with a smile and a pleasant demeanor. while providing similarly tasty food.
Wonderful service and the food and drinks were excellent! We were seated in the back area and there were some thick drapes so a little dark in terms of lighting, but otherwise we were very happy with our experience! Will return!
Love that place!!
This is one of the better restaurants in Palo Alto.
Waiters were not very friendly, didn’t offer the nicest tables even though there were plenty of options. Waiter who took our steak order wasn’t paying attention either when we said we wanted medium rare, the steak came fully cooked. We gave her the feedback only when she asked, and she didn’t respond with any apologizes nothing.
Not coming back here.
Food is only so so but excellent drinks
Excellent food. If you get small plates food is incredibly fast but dinners are the opposite. We had two people get small plates and two get steak dinners. The small plates people were done eating for well over 20 minutes before our steaks ever came out. The steaks were worth waiting for but it was really slow.
Our server was MIA most of the night. We had to keep asking the busboys to find him
Server added items to our bill that we didnt order. When we flagged him over, he simply said "extra items" on the bill. I think he thought we wouldn't notice. Service was fine at the beginning but slow while waiting to pay the bill.
Overall, we had a very good experience. One server didn't destroy that!
We stopped in for dinner while staying for a few days in Calistoga. The atmosphere is very comfortable and we were able to walk in and get a table without reservations on a Saturday night in August.
My husband enjoyed his duck... he said it was very good. I ordered the mussels... they were a little over spiced for me. And I was not provided a soup spoon with it... I could have asked but just didn’t. Service was alright.
It was a nice restaurant and for its price and being french, it was good. But not 5 star or even 4 star worthy. But solid, French fare.
Food was very good. Started off with the Joya salad with candied walnuts and feta cheese. Paired with a sparkling wine it was delicious! Then ordered the grilled octopus, it was delightful. Then the queso fundido with chorizo, another star. paired this with the Argentinian Malbec, great selection. Finally the lamb skewers, delectable, also paired with the Malbec.
For dessert chose the blackberry sorbet, very fresh.
The food was delicious, the drinks on the expensive side.
Will be back.
My experience he was great the food was great and the atmosphere It was fantastic
Brought some people from work. Excellent food. Will come back again!
We weren't able to bring with us the left over delicious foods that we asked to be boxed for to go!
Great location the food was great but the service was lacking we waited around trying to reorder drinks couldn't find our server ordered it with someone else and it was never brought to us but it was on the end bill and we had to point it out
Salmon was excellent . Vegetarian Paella was bland and needed some protein ie tofu. Unfortunately the birthday girl was the one ordering the paella. Free dessert was a nice touch but they did not ask the birthday girl her dietary needs so they brought out a high dairy dessert and she is dairy free
Restaurant was slowing down for our 8.45 reservation. Great food and service. Prices on par for the area. Great spot to try a bunch of different bites in a trendy and chic space. Our favorite was the yuca fries!
Dined at the restaurant for a business lunch. The location and atmosphere were perfect. The food was flavorful and very well presented.
Great location, great food with a good variety and tasty choices, and good service.
Good service. Excellent location. Clean and well-maintained. Food quality varied. Excellent crab cakes and grilled octopus. Empanadas weren’t great. Calamari was good, too. Expected more Spanish fishes but offerings were a combination of Spanish, Latin, Italian, California.
Service was really bas
Went to Joya on a Friday after work with my wife and son. I made the reservation not knowing the decor of the resturant and we were a little nervous when we arrived because my son is only three. The resturant is quite nice and might be considered high end. However the staff was very welcoming to my family and were seated right away in a nice table by the window.
We had a great time and the food was amazing. Make sure to try the empanadas and the poppers...truly amazing. Also make sure to plan for dessert;)
