About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
Joule, the first restaurant from celebrated husband and wife cooking team Rachel Yang and Seif Chirchi, is re-located in October, 2012 to the innovative, newly developed the Fremont Collective in Seattle’s Wallingford/Fremont neighborhood. From its original opening in 2007, Joule has cultivated a loyal dining fan base and captured the attention of an admiring local and national media captivated by the couple’s unique, modern perspective on Korean cuisine. Joule, the mature sibling to Yang and Chirchi’s restaurant, Revel, highlights Korea’s love of beef featuring unconventional cuts accompanied by distinctive and shareable side dishes.

Joule takes reservations for 1.75-3 hour time slots (depending on party size). We do our best to accommodate as many guests as possible and ask that you are considerate of other diners at the end of your meal. If you feel that your party requires more time, please let us know in the notes and we will get back to you with our available accommodations.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Rachel Yang

From the OpenTable editors: This neighborhood charmer from multi-James Beard Award-nominated chefs Rachel Yang and Seif Chirchi is where you go for refined Korean steakhouse fare with a Pacific Northwestern twist. Dishes like Gochujang lamb adobo with green curry pea puree exemplify the wife-and-husband team’s bold flavors rooted in classic techniques. Watch them work from an open kitchen in the inviting space, complete with handmade wallpaper and communal seating that make every meal feel like a lively dinner party.

The food is phenomenal - I can never skip the beef tartare, spicy rice cake, and that shortrib steak, but there's always something new to try. I love all the waitstaff. You could not ask for kinder people. Joule is definitely my favorite restaurant in all of Seattle.

We went to Joule on a Friday evening, and it's a wonderful Korean-American fusion spot. Drinks For drinks, we ordered the Summer Fling and the Blackberry Barley Bramble. The Summer Fling was delightful—citrusy and fruity. It's a great refreshing and vibrant summer drink. The Blackberry Barley Bramble is more on the sweet side, very rich with ripe blackberry fruit flavor. Both were delicious! Dishes For appetizers, we ordered the Kimchi Trio, which included turnip, traditional kimchi, and beetroots. We liked the beetroot kimchi. It was surprisingly balanced between sweetness, tang, and a spicy sauce. The turnip kimchi was less flavorful for us. I didn't really like the raw, earthy taste and fibrous texture of the turnip. For our main dishes, we had: Spicy Rice Cake: This was definitely a highlight! Both the rice cake and the meat were charred really well, giving them a nutty, toasty flavor and crisp texture. Short Rib Steak: The steak was tender and the sauce was very nice, but the real highlight for us was the grilled kimchi side. It was charred perfectly, and its toasty flavor paired wonderfully with the spiciness. Kalbi Burger: This was very juicy, like a typical good burger. Another highlight was, again, the side of pickled vegetables! They weren't too sour and were balanced very well. Octopus: The octopus was charred nicely and complemented the vegetables and sweet sauce underneath. Overall, it's a great place with excellent service. Our server gave us really good recommendations on both drinks and food portioning.

We ordered the Chinese scallion pancakes, black garlic noodles, octopus and the short rib eye steak. Everything was delicious, well presented and timed, and the service was impeccable. Strongly recommend this spot.

Joule is a great restaurant in Seattle with awesome vegan and vegetarian options. I loved the rice cake with mushroom substitute, which was really tasty. The summer squash with Sechuan sauce was amazing - the flavors were perfectly balanced and not too overwhelming. Our server Tiger was super helpful and gave great recommendations that made the meal even better. The menu has something for everyone, and I was impressed by how creative the plant-based dishes were. If you're looking for a solid dining experience with good food and friendly service, Joule is definitely worth checking out.

Family time with two kids-they ate the steak, tofu and ‘pizza’ like flatbread. Adults enjoyed the kimchi, tasty rice cakes (mochi) not too spicy, steak and mackerel. It was awesome. The most amazing banana pudding ice cream sandwich, omg. Enjoy

We always enjoy Joule. The service is always great and the servers always seem to make an extra effort for us to have an enjoyable experience while dining. The food is wonderful. My favorite was the octopus which was a generous portion and cooked to tenderness. We’ll be back!

Food is good but the only dish that was particularly mind blowing was the Kalbi. The level of service does not match the price point though. It took us a while to get greeted at the host stand even though the person was right there and we were pointed to our table instead of being walked over. It took 10 minutes for us to be greeted by the server and to get water. Servers and runners did not know who ordered which drink (a very simple system can be set up for this). Water was often not filled. Plates were not cleared when empty. It just lacked an attention to detail and hospitality that I would expect at this price point.

The rice cakes and short rib steak were both absolutely incredible. Our waitress was wonderful, and we wish we would’ve listened to more of her recommendations! I would send every friend in town here
