Joshua Wilton House Ratings and Reviews
We go for Sunday brunch whenever we need a pick-me-up and the Joshua Wilton House never fails to deliver. The front-of-house staff couldn't be more welcoming and attentive, the wait staff are consistently outstanding and the food exquisite. Thank you for treating us as friends coming to your home to share a meal.
Absolutely wonderful evening of good food, good wine and good friends. Service was top notch. We had cocktails before dinner and the bartender, Ben, is phenomenal. We will continue to stay at the inn and dine at Joshua Wilton House whenever we come back to visit our Alma mater, JMU. Go Dukes!
We celebrated the 1st anniversary of our little boy, and couldn't find a better place for family dinner.
Everything - a cozy and warm ambience (including real fire place), excellent service provided by Jake, and of course a delicious food - was great, and deserts were just outstanding.
we will definitely do our best to return.
This was my first time dining at the Joshua Wilton House. I had heard great things about it over the years and they certainly did not disappoint! The atmosphere and jazz music was very relaxing. Our waiter, Jake, was very friendly and cheerful; displaying attentiveness without being intrusive. He was also very knowledgeable about the offerings as he described them. The food was superb. The a la carte pricing was perfect because, instead of being restricted to a strict multi-course meal, it was possible to enjoy multiple appetizer and entree offerings for a wide range of taste experiences. Lastly, it was nice to be able to eat and talk at our leisure without feeling like we were on the clock. From start to finish, the experience was top rate. A perfect way to celebrate the holiday season. Highly recommended.
Incredible experience. We make it to JWH once a year or so for special occasions and date nights and it never disappoints. Tonight, we got there a bit early and stopped by the bar prior to our table being ready. Both cocktails we ordered (Wilton Widow for my wife, Cane and Thistle for me) were spectacular: smooth, refreshing, and relaxing. I’d recommend both.
Our meal was wonderful. I ordered the butternut squash soup and it was tremendous: creamy, peppery, and a warm taste of autumn. We enjoyed a crisp, clean bottle of Pinot Grigio (on the recommendation of our outstanding server) with our entrees of scallops and salmon. Everything was perfectly prepared and delightful. JWH does not disappoint.
this was a great dining experience! My husband and I took my daughter, a student at JMU, here while we were in town for a game. Attentive service, pleasant staff, nice outdoor area to eat, (except for the customer who decided to come out to the patio for a cigarette) and absolutely fantastic food! Our waitress was attentive, professional and helpful. Would most definitely recommend! The filet mignon was outstanding as was the salad. And the desserts are not to be missed. A++!
With no prior knowledge we found a very nice restaurant being run by very nice people. We shared a salad with an unobstrusive yet flavorful vinaigrette - mix of cheese and pickled carrots came off very well. We both had venison tenderloin which was prepared to perfection and served with red cabbage, parsnip puree and blueberry gastrique. These items tastefully decorated the plate. But, most important, it all tasted good! Will return when in the area again.
We celebrated our anniversary and had a great time. The service , food and décor were just great. We cannot say one bad thing about the whole evening. I highly recommend the Joshua Wilton House. Fine dining at it's best. We plan on returning next time we are staying in the area.
We have been here several times before. I was a bit dissapointed with the menu selection again. What they advertise on their web site and their menu for that evening is always different. The service is great and the atmosphere is quiet. Not sure if we will return next year.
Excellent Again. Our second visit during one of our occasional trips to the Shenandoah Valley. Worth the drive again. Service was good, the food very good, and the pricing on the "date night" menu exceptional. One of these days, my wife and I will stay at the B&B part of the house, too.
My husband and I had an amazing experience here. It's definitely upscale. We felt very special. My husband and I are both craft cocktail drinkers. Being pregnant means that I, of course, cannot partake. The bartender was kind enough to make me a really delicious mocktail while we waited for our table. The host anticipated our desire for a date night and asked if we were interested in waiting a few extra minutes for a table in one of the other rooms, as the table we were originally meant to have was in a room with a larger (louder) party. Our waiter was fun and extremely knowledgeable. He was so willing to make suggestions based on our preferences. And the food! It was utterly fantastic. I had the fish special. I can't wait to have the chance to go back.
My wife and I enjoyed our 1st year anniversary here (10 years together). We had dined at this location once before and was unaware of making reservations. So this time we did it right. Very nice set up, quiet table by front window. I had the Filet and she had the quail, both delicious choices. Plan on $100 for two to eat, but, well worth every penny if you want to enjoy fine dining.
