We saw this place when visiting Harrisonburg several years ago, and so when we found ourselves staying over after a weekend visit to the mountains, we made a reservation. It is a beautiful and well-preserved old mansion on the town's main street with several intimate dining rooms. We sere served by a charming and very knowledgeable young woman. The menu was reasonably creative and there was am extensive wine list (but with few Virginia wines). We each had opening courses, a mushroom bisque for me and mussels for my friend. They were excellent. The entrees were a bit disappointing. My filet mignon was rather tough and served with a gluey potato dish best left off the plate. She had a duck breast, nicely prepared and served boned and whole but with a chewy, undercooked topping of kale that, too, would best have been left in the kitchen. With the help of our waitperson we found a good red wine from a nearby producer. Without other drinks or desert we paid $135 plus a tip.
This wasn’t our first time and won’t be our last. Excellent as always.
Unbelievable service, delicious unusual cuisine. Always fresh and presented beautifully.
Great meal and excellent service!
Still the best food in Harrisonburg. Would have given 5 stars again, but our server was a bit lacking this night. Forgot the amuse-bouche to start the dinner.
Service and food were excellent. Would recommend for special occasions or nice dinner.
We had another great brunch with friends who are new to the area. The shrimp and grits special was wonderful.
Food was exceptional. Service was great although it took a while for drinks at the beginning of the meal and wine wasn’t brought until after the entree was served.
Wish I could eat here every day!
Food was amazing, I had the Duck and my wife had the Fillet Mignon. This was our second time coming and was much more impressed with the food than the first visit. Atmosphere is nice and quiet great for a date night. We will definitely be going back, next time will be to try out the brunch.
Fantastic food for a great value. Best food I have had in Harrisonburg.
Always a wonderful experience; food, service and atmosphere!
Great food and service in a lovely setting. Wide number of Handcrafted cocktails which we all found very tasty. Fish was outstanding as was the soup and the pork belly appetizer. A bit pricy but worth it.
A third visit for my wife and I, and another great experience. It's rare when a place continues to meet expectations from past occasions, but JW did. Food, service, table, all was good. We will give them another try on our next visit to the Valley.
We went to the Wilton House for our anniversary. The service and settings were great. We had a great quail appetizer, followed by filet mignon main course. Fun and neat presentations, great cuts of meat, accompanying veggies great too! We were really appreciative of out desserts having "Happy Anniversary" written on the plate in chocolate syrup. The server was attentive and accommodated our needs expertly. We had a nice table with a view of main street! We will be back!
We go for Sunday brunch whenever we need a pick-me-up and the Joshua Wilton House never fails to deliver. The front-of-house staff couldn't be more welcoming and attentive, the wait staff are consistently outstanding and the food exquisite. Thank you for treating us as friends coming to your home to share a meal.
Absolutely wonderful evening of good food, good wine and good friends. Service was top notch. We had cocktails before dinner and the bartender, Ben, is phenomenal. We will continue to stay at the inn and dine at Joshua Wilton House whenever we come back to visit our Alma mater, JMU. Go Dukes!
We celebrated the 1st anniversary of our little boy, and couldn't find a better place for family dinner.
Everything - a cozy and warm ambience (including real fire place), excellent service provided by Jake, and of course a delicious food - was great, and deserts were just outstanding.
we will definitely do our best to return.
This was my first time dining at the Joshua Wilton House. I had heard great things about it over the years and they certainly did not disappoint! The atmosphere and jazz music was very relaxing. Our waiter, Jake, was very friendly and cheerful; displaying attentiveness without being intrusive. He was also very knowledgeable about the offerings as he described them. The food was superb. The a la carte pricing was perfect because, instead of being restricted to a strict multi-course meal, it was possible to enjoy multiple appetizer and entree offerings for a wide range of taste experiences. Lastly, it was nice to be able to eat and talk at our leisure without feeling like we were on the clock. From start to finish, the experience was top rate. A perfect way to celebrate the holiday season. Highly recommended.
Very poor service. For a "fine dining" restaurant, they have missed this crucial component to the dining experience. We will not be back.
What a great Sunday Brunch! I went for a birthday and had such a wonderful time! Our waitress was wonderful and extremely helpful as there were dietary restrictions for one of us. The restaurant is so quaint and was definitely worth the trip!
My wife is non-gluten and dairy intolerant. They did an excellent job taking care of her needs!
Do not like music played at Sunday Brunch. Inappropriate & loud.
Can't say enough good things about this restaurant and hotel.. Loved it!!!!
The food was a little pricey for the small portions, especially the venison dish. The service and wine was very good, Jake was our waiter.
This is a lovely old Victorian house in a quiet area. The service and food are what you would expect of a first class restaurant.
As always the food was excellent and the service very good. This is the place to go for a special evening, or brunch.
The duck was excellent! The Wilton House is always a great experience.
Creative cocktails in the cozy bar was a great start to an evening with old friends. The food (especially the fish special) and wine for dinner were amazing, and Jake provided perfect service. JWH is always one of our favorite places!
I had the best filet I’ve Ever had at the Joshua Wilton House! The ingredients of the entire meal were fabulous. I will be back the next time we are in town.
Incredible experience. We make it to JWH once a year or so for special occasions and date nights and it never disappoints. Tonight, we got there a bit early and stopped by the bar prior to our table being ready. Both cocktails we ordered (Wilton Widow for my wife, Cane and Thistle for me) were spectacular: smooth, refreshing, and relaxing. I’d recommend both.
Our meal was wonderful. I ordered the butternut squash soup and it was tremendous: creamy, peppery, and a warm taste of autumn. We enjoyed a crisp, clean bottle of Pinot Grigio (on the recommendation of our outstanding server) with our entrees of scallops and salmon. Everything was perfectly prepared and delightful. JWH does not disappoint.
Amazing as always! But please bring back the cinnamon rolls!
this was a great dining experience! My husband and I took my daughter, a student at JMU, here while we were in town for a game. Attentive service, pleasant staff, nice outdoor area to eat, (except for the customer who decided to come out to the patio for a cigarette) and absolutely fantastic food! Our waitress was attentive, professional and helpful. Would most definitely recommend! The filet mignon was outstanding as was the salad. And the desserts are not to be missed. A++!
The only small issue was the portion size of my wife's entree. She had a venison tenderloin dish which would have benefited from at least one more medallion on her plate. All else was great! Our server, Cort, added to our nights enjoyment.
Always fabulous food, service, atmosphere. Love this place. Have dinner every time we're in town to visit our child at college.
A little pricey, but a great place for special occasions. Bartender and waiter were friendly and very professional. Food was quite good, but not outstanding.
We celebrated our 47th anniversary at Joshua Wilton House. Everything was perfect. Great evening and dining experience.
Outstanding!!!! Would rate one of our top restaurants ever!!!!
The food has gotten worse over the years and the duck was way to salty. Given the cost of the dish this is not acceptable. The other dishes were good, not amazing. For the price it is very over rated and not a very good value.
With no prior knowledge we found a very nice restaurant being run by very nice people. We shared a salad with an unobstrusive yet flavorful vinaigrette - mix of cheese and pickled carrots came off very well. We both had venison tenderloin which was prepared to perfection and served with red cabbage, parsnip puree and blueberry gastrique. These items tastefully decorated the plate. But, most important, it all tasted good! Will return when in the area again.
