Joseph's Steakhouse of Iowa City Ratings and Reviews
Josephs is know for their quality steaks but we were disappointed. My daughter ordered her New York strip well done and it was cooked rare. When she sent it back the outside appeared well done and the inside still too red. My husband’s steak was also under cooked. For the price it was disappointing. I do recommend the bacon macaroni and cheese. It was delicious. Our waiter, Peter, was very professional and polite.
We recently splurged to celebrate our Anniversary, and went to Joseph’s. I was excited for lobster tail but it was very dry and over cooked. My husband thought his grand filet was fine, but expected a little more pizzazz for $50. I did however LOVE the Berkshire pork chop! My mouth is still watering just thinking about it. We appreciated the complimentary dessert, which was really kind. If a friend hadn’t offered to pay most of our bill, we wouldn’t have gone there otherwise. But I’ll go back for the pork chop!
We have been coming to Joseph’s for years for a special meal after football games with long time friends. This time it felt like the restaurant was a little off its game. The food as always was very good. We had a large party of 16 and asked to split the check evenly by couple - no special math required. They have always done this in the past for us but said it was too difficult to do. We said we had a birthday and asked for a surprise dessert. Our server went right to the individual and let the cat out of the bag. And last the service was sluggish. I recognize large parties can be a challenge so they probably should have had a second server.
We’ll be back I’m sure but really expect a better experience.
This restaurant was phenomenal! My husband and I took our daughter and her boyfriend here when we visited them on a football weekend. There were many wonderful options on the menu, it was hard to decide what to order. The wait staff was very attentive and quite knowledgeable about all the entrees on the menu. When the food arrived, the presentation was amazing. We loved the curtains that separate the tables, giving us privacy. It was a beautiful and quiet restaurant where you could actually carry on a conversation and hear each other speak. We will definitely be going back here. It wasn't that expensive. No more than any fine dining restaurant worth going to in a bigger city.
I booked my reservation online and it was very simple. I was greeted at the entrance with a welcome and a smile. I took a seat at the bar and the bartender greeted me in the same manner. After the rest of my dinner party arrived we took our seats and our server Noah greeted in the same manner. Love to see the consistency within Josephs. I had the rib-eye and my business partner had the salmon. Both plates were excellent and I would recommend this to anyone. I have been to Josephs before and had the same great customer experience. If you are in town and looking for a great dining experience for any occasion, this is the place to go.
My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary, we both got French onion soup which was a little too salty for the both of us. He got the rack of lamb and I got a ribeye, both ordered medium rare and both of our meats were way underdone. I ordered a glass of moscato which was delicious. Because the food service was a little slow we were comped two desserts, which was very kind of them. Our waitress was wonderful and very attentive.
It was late so the place was all ours, meaning so was the service. I ordered the chicken Marsala and my husband had the ribeye. We split the loaded hashbrowns. Those were good but nothing very special. Probably wouldn't order them again since I'm actually more of a creamed spinach girl anyway. The space is nice with some privacy for each table and the service was really attentive.
Joseph's is perhaps one of the best restaurants I have been to. I am from NYC, and am spoiled with quality food/beverages. I have recently visited Iowa twice and have been to Joseph's three times. Their steaks, carpaccio, scallops, chicken Marsala are some of the best food I've had the pleasure of having. Service is impeccable. I must mention that Martin, Peter, and Noah, are phenomenal and so well versed in their jobs. You will not regret it. Worth every penny!! It is my go to place from this point forward.
Waitress less than capable for a restaurant of this caliber
Food good but not warm enough
I believe a capable wait staff could have made this a memorable meal
The way it was
It was over priced for the value
This was s very important dinner for us as we had special friends fir a very special occasion and she just dropped the ball at every moment of specialness
Even though I specifically called ahead to say we want the bill
She brought two bills!!!
Joseph's Steakhouse is a good option for up-market dining in Iowa City. The steak is consistently excellent, although most of the appetizer and dessert options are fairly standard steakhouse fare. The cocktail list is surprisingly good, with some interesting options, and the wine list is decent although dominated by young wines.
Best part of the meal was the appitizer. Unfortunately, we were let done with everything from that point on. IMO the experience was extremely overpriced and the products seemed of poor quality. I'd save some money and hit up another establishment downtown Iowa City.
