About Joseph's Restaurant
Joseph's refined style and atmosphere make it a popular spot for business lunches, as well as Downtown classic. But don't let the fancy setting fool you—behind all the elegance is an excellent and authentic Italian kitchen that churns out rustic dishes reminiscent of the old country.
Joseph's staff takes the Italian reverence for abbondanza (abundance) to heart, and won't let you walk away from your meal hungry. Pasta, chops, chicken, salad—everything on this menu bears the true taste of Italy.
The main courses at Joseph's are often accompanied by vegetables and potatoes, and there are family-style platter options available if you are ordering with a group. If "Italian food" in the Financial District conjures up thoughts of chicken parmigiana subs from a pizza place, it's time for a step into the elegance and flavor of Joseph's.

Joseph's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I absolutely loved this restaurant. I was in NY on business and wanted a quiet Italian dinner. This was the perfect spot. Great wine and food, and exceptional service. I ordered the special--lamb shank osso bucco with gnocchi. It was awesome! Next time I am in NY, I will be sure to stop by.
We're from out of town and found Joseph's via an online search. I was very pleased! The food was fantastic! My daughter and I had the seafood over pasta and it was perfect. We also had the fried calamari, which was perfect. My picky son loved his steak and even ate his broccoli. I also heard the lobster ravioli was great. It was a Tuesday evening and not very crowded, so we had a room to ourselves. Due to the stonework, I can see it getting quite loud, but it wasn't bad with just us (and we're a loud crew of 7). I gave the staff a 4 because they were too good. I felt like we had 5 waiters constantly checking on us, it actually got annoying! =) I highly recommend and would go back in a heartbeat!
This place has been around a long time, but has retained its excellent quality Northern Italian food. The smaller dining room is great for group lunches. Unlike many Manhattan "traditional" hangouts, you can actually have a conversation without screaming to be heard.
Very disappointed in the entire evening. I checked out the restaurant in advance and it looked very nice, white table clothes, very charming room.
Several people were at the bar, but the restaurant was empty at dinner hour.
The waiter was rude, gave me the wrong wine and actually argued with me that it wasn't the wrong wine. Very limited wine by the glass.
We both ordered veal dishes, which were not veal medallions as on the menu, but veal cutlets, which would have been ok, but not prepared or presented well.
I love to cook and and though the ingredients sounded great, the meal was not good at all.
I have been to Joseph's many times. One of NYC's best fine dining Italian restaurants. From Osso Buco to Eggplant Parmesan to Pasta and Fish along with excellent nightly specials you cannot go wrong at this long time classic.
I had a business dinner at Joseph's and found it to be a good option for a quiet dinner. There's nothing fancy about this place although the interior exceeded my expectations (it's below street level but not dark and musty). The food was good but nothing really outstanding. For lower Manhattan at night, this is a good option if you don't want to be meeting in a pub.
We live right across the street from Joseph's and have been excited to try it for some time now. We went on a Friday night at around 7PM and we were seated right away. The food and service were both fine.. however the crowd was terrible! The restaurant had many open tables but the two tables that we were seated next to had large parties with very inebriated patrons. They were so loud and obnoxious and really ruined our meal. We couldn't wait to eat and get out of there. We were a little disappointed that the restaurant did not try to quiet the other tables or offer to move us further away. Will not go back.
A friend who grew up in the Bronx Italian community and lives downtown told me this was the best Italian food in FiDi. Could well be. Really, really good classic upscale Italian. Started with an octopus and burrata with balsamic reduction on greens, superb veal piccata and a shared plate of classic ricotta cheesecake and panna cotta. Back Room's a little hokey (the fake fireplace) but ignore it and savor the food exquisite food. We'll be back.
Although it's far from the theatre district, we went to Joseph's after a Wednesday matinee and we weren't disappointed. I had a wonderful haddock dish - great sauce, veggies and potatoes. My friend had the pasta with meat sauce (her absolute favorite at this place). We had the Banana Flambe (their version of Banana's Foster) for desert. With drinks, the bill was $150 which I think is fairly normal for diner in that area. I would definitely go back.
Authentic Italian. Everything you this about for a traditional Italian restaurant . Great wine . Great food. Friendly professional service - truly a beautiful restaurant in the Italian traditional upscale setting with an " your at home " feeling of service , friendliness "home- made" food .
The quality of the food and service is consistently exceptional. Their Buratta Chese is some of the best anywhere. They are on the expensive side so I usually go there for business lunches on expense account but the experience would be well worth it for an occasion restaurant as well.
