Mixed experience at Josephine. On the positive side: restaurant ambiance lively and fun; hostess was friendly; bartender made excellent cocktails; snap peas with mint side dish very tasty; dessert (peach cobbler with ice cream) was delicious; price for the meal was fair. On the negative side: waitress served the white wine from the bottle (which should be cold) at essentially room temperature, and when we mentioned it that we expected it to be cold, she explained that the wine was kept at a certain temperature purposefully, and that she would now put it on ice; that did not help with our lukewarm glasses of white wine that were already poured and was not the answer we were looking for. So, we asked for some ice and put it in our glass of wine to turn it into a spritzer. Not a good start to the meal. We had a lobster dish on lettuce as an appetizer and it was very salty. The halibut entree was overcooked and dry. I would still recommend Josephine though because there was enough that is good, and will give it another try some day.
Very creative dishes that are prepared to perfection. Do not miss the beef tongue appetizer! It's one of the best things I've ever eaten!
Loved everthing. The snap peas, cheese tray and roasted chicken were outstanding! We will be back!!
We love Abby- she’s a great server, the food is fantastic.
Only thing is ... y’all got rid of the Beautiful Persian rugs! They added such ambiance and were great at keeping the noise down.
Pro Care would’ve been a great option for professional cleaning services
Amazing restaurant! The service is incredible and the food is out of this world! Will definitely be recommending!! Its also a must to repeat!
I had a great meal at Josephine's. I live nearby, but I had not eaten here in a while. I was excited to learn they have discounts for neighbors who dine with them on Mondays and I believe they have half-priced bottles of wine on Tuesdays. I really liked the roasted beets which were a side option. I told my waiter this and the next thing I knew the chef came to greet me and provided me a handwritten recipe of the beets and the honey lavender vinaigrette dressing! I will definitely be back more often...and you should too!
There were four of us and we each loved our dishes! Halibut, seared scallops, hanger steak, all were delicious. We pretty much closed the place down but the wait staff made us feel so welcome that we were in no hurry to leave LOL! We were even handed little packages of molasses cookies on our way out. Overall a great experience and the next time we’re in Nashville we will be back!
Outstanding from start to finish!
Wonderful service and DELICIOUS food! I picked this restaurant from a goop list and it exceeded my high expectations. The hostess even gave us a coffee cup when they learned our daughter's name was Josephine to give to her back home. It was such a sweet gesture! Highly recommend!
I thoroughly enjoyed my birthday dinner here on a Saturday! Many thanks to all of you for such a delightful experience for my friends and me.

Great meal, great atmosphere. Josephine did not disappoint.
This was our first visit to Josephine's and will not be our last. The front door staff was very welcoming and promptly sat us as a nice table by the front window. Our server (forgot his name) was extremely knowledgeable about the menu items and their preparation. We ordered the cheese plate, which was delivered promptly. It was a little disappointing - would have like to had some grapes or other fruit in combination wit the cheese and toast points. My husband and I shared the beets, which were amazing. The dish included pistachios which gave the dish a nice crunch.
For entree's, we had the scallops and pork chop. The scallops were perfectly prepared and the blanco sauce perfectly complimented the scallops. My husband had the pork chop and must say it was the first time he has received a pork chop that wasn't overcooked - he only wished it had more of a sear. The coleslaw was tangy, but complimented the chop.
Overall a very nice visit and we plan on returning to try some other items on the menu.
Exceeded expectations as always!
Josephine is a very nice restaurant. True menu is interesting though not amazing.
We had the lettuce wraps which were very good and the portion size was pretty large.
We split the chicken which was just ok. I wouldn’t really recommend it.
Overall it’s a pretty good place for a nice meal
The J has a decent atmosphere but far more casual than their prices suggest. The proportions were ridiculously small and my entree (the pork chop) was 30% fat and relatively flavorless. This is our second trip to Nashville and 4th and least favorite restaurant. The cocktails were nice and I’d suggest getting pre-dinner drinks there if you wanted to simply check out the restaurant, but dine elsewhere. With tip, our bill for 2 (only 1 cocktail each) was $190. For that money, I’d certainly expect to be satiated and have had one of us enjoy the dinner. Sadly, not the case.
The noise level is perfect. I at 25 and feel drowned out at some restaurants and Josephine has the perfect ambiance. In addition to that, the food and cocktails are excellent. Rotating menu makes things more interesting. Good imagination too with some of the appetizers.
It was my birthday and they went out of their way to make it special. The food was excellent also.
Everything was excellent as usual! Brunch was especially delicious.
Fantastic food, great service, and quiet enough for casual conversation.
Excellent, would highly recommend
Engagement/birthday dinner and it couldn’t have gone any better. The team made the night unforgettable with so many little touches. We can’t wait to go back!
Josephine is always excellent! Service and food are both great.
Perfect for our anniversary, thank you for attending to details to make the evening special.
Everything was great! Our server was wonderful. Informative. The hash outstanding. My girlfriend got the halibut and was talking about it the rest of the night! I got the strip, and while it was very good, I would have liked it less cooked (I ordered it medium rare) and maybe a little more salt (just my preference). I would recommend the restaurant to anybody.
The restaurant is gorgeous. The cocktails and presentation of all food was superb. Our servers seemed mildly interested in anything we had to say and weren’t very enthusiastic listeners. As a native Nashvillian, frankly, I expected better. I understand it’s a busy evening and weekend, but a smile and chuckle go a long way in making a party more fun.
The quality of the food was very high however the service quality was not high. The restaurant appeared to be understaffed. Several of our dishes were provided to the table without serving utensils. Often our silverware or plates were removed and not replaced for the upcoming dishes. Had to ask for silverware twice during the meal. Drinks prior to our meal again took a long time. I think all of these issues are related to staffing and not the quality of the servers, who were friendly but often seemed distracted.
always a great meal . it’s got to be in our top three restaurants in town. always new items on the menu. great attitude!! will always modify a dish to your own desires. chicken for two is really for three!! every fish dish is outstanding...
The food is simple but delicious. The cocktails are excellent. We had a great time and love the atmosphere. The cost was high but worth it for special occasions.
While the corner window table was a nice touch to celebrate a special occasion and our server was somewhat seasoned, it paled in comparison for the dining experience we anticipated but did not receive. The service was slow, they were out of a signature item, the food was extremely salty (replacements for all dishes came out after we finished our main), one main wasn't cooked to order and the guest had to leave the table (rare instead of well done)...no need to go on. To amend for this they brought a complimentary dessert for the guest of honor without asking for dietary restrictions and the guest could not eat it. We usually give second chances, but will make an exception this time.
Above all the food was outstanding. We had several courses and all were exceptional. The swordfish may have been the best piece of fish I have ever put in my mouth. Food showcased robust flavors, but never was the integrity of ingredients eclipsed by too many complexities. The atmosphere was simple, yet sophisticated, and a perfect fit for the fare. I was very impressed with the non-pretension that Josephine delivered compared to so many of it's contemporaries in town, whose food is not equivalent. I have already recommended this restaurant and we will be back.
Josephines is my fav Nashville restaurant and the Littles some of my favorite chefs here. I go there when I NEED it and I'm never disappointed. Taking some good friends there again, soon. It is a combo of a neighborhood restaurant, and innovative food restaurant, and a pleasantly run (staff and atmosphere) place where we feel comfortable. People have on shorts or fancies and everyone is happy, including me.
I had been to Josephine previously for dinner, which I also highly suggest, but this was my first Josephine brunch experience which was equally impressive! I definitely recommend. I went with a small group and we all loved our dishes! We had a great table by the sunny window and the music was just the right noise level giving us an additionally great experience on top of the food. We had the Biscuits & Honey/Apple Butter starter which was a huge hit for the table! I had the J’s Basic plate which sounds so simple but was SO yum! Accompanying my meal was a Bloody Mary with the right amount of spice and flavor to help kickstart my Saturday. The Duck Confit & Sweet Potato Hash and the Benedict were also table favorites! Can’t wait to go back!
Good, unique dishes. Great service and ambience. Not a good place for groups because it is so loud.
Fantastic food and service.
The restaurant was very stylish and had a nice look to it. The menus looked good and had a variety of options for every palate. I was disappointed in the Benedict which was very rich and a little cold. The prosciutto was good but the scrapple was cold and mushy. Added toast to eat the eggs and enjoyed the salad. The other entrees and sweets looked good
Law school mates went out on the town in Nashville for 3 nights and then we found Josephine’s, the reunion was made by this find. Best bottle of wine so far this year, the food was proper and Abbey, our server, the best in town. What a great night at Josephine’s.
Was a bit disappointed in the size of the entrees. I had a pasta selection and actually left the restaurant hungry. Also, one of our party found her entree to be spicy. The waitress brought some bread, but it took longer than it should have.
this was a great experience for brunch. service was outstanding. our quiche was not warm, they immediately prepared new one and chef brought to our table. i love when kitchen brings items to table after being redone. great smoked salmon salad with frisee and arugula. quiche was excellent. we started with pecan sticky buns-they were outstanding. i highly recommend for brunch. they even have complimentary valet parking which is nice for a crowded area. Nashville is fortunate to have some great restaurants. this is one of them
One of our last brunch stops in Nashville, and it was our favorite. The biscuits were amazing, the smoked salmon salad was amazing, and the Benedict was amazing. Well done Josephine.
