Joseph Tambellini Ratings and Reviews
It was a Tuesday evening and not too busy. We were seated in the bar area which isn’t as nice as the other room but it worked out fine. The food was as good as I remembered from my previous visit. I had one of the salmon specials and it was wonderful. My friends were also pleased with their veal and chicken selections. It’s a bit pricey but nice for a special occasion.
Our server was so attentive, we could tell he was busting his butt to wait all of his tables, but he did this without leaving any tables out. As for the food, amazing!! Everything was amazing. From the bread, to the side salad, to our meals, and to the creme brûlée for dessert. Overall 10/10
I always look forward to going to Joseph Tambellini's, I love the building, atmosphere, and especially Joe's cooking. It very much reminds me of my own Italian brand of cooking; homemade pasta, great sauce selections, superb steaks, great salads and all served in an authentic Italian style, simple with great ingredients, perfecto! Melissa and Joe are approachable in a "your my guest in my home", kind-of-way!
Cozy neighborhood gem...great food and very attentive service...excellent and reasonable wine list. A bit pricey -- fried calamari app was small for price, parm shavings for salad and toppings for veal chop were extra upsell, annoying when you're paying $52 for the chop. But all forgiven since everything was so yummy.
Very good, authentic Italian food. Perhaps a bit overpriced. The house salad was delicious. The fried zucchini strips were disappointing. Our entrees were quite nice but there is a hefty, un-noted by us (is it on the menu?), fee for splitting entrees. The special of butternut squash ravioli with sage cream sauce was delicious but the ravioli were perhaps rolled a bit too thick as they bordered on chewy. The crushini fritti were a lovely way to end the meal...not too sweet. Plenty big enough for two or even three.
Another’s outstanding evening enjoyed at Joseph Tambellini with great service, awesome food served in a leisurely manner with a cozy ambiance. We were warmly greeted as soon as we entered and the personal yet professional and attentive staff make this a restaurant not to be missed! The food is so well prepared with creative touches provided by Joe.
Several visits here have all been excellent. The food was very good and they made efforts to accommodate special needs in our group. The server was very good without being intrusive.
Noise level was higher on this visit than on previous visits, but this may have been due to certain circumstances on this night.
Had heard all the rave reviews and been in Pittsburgh for 15 years and finally tried it for my birthday. It was average. Nothing to write home about other than the hand made pasta--it was excellent! Very small place and felt like I was having dinner with the people one table over. Very cramped and wouldn't recommend for an "intimate" dinner. Since the tables are so close together, you heard the entire conversation of the table next to you. I had the grouper special--it was average. Hubby had the chicken piccata and said it was average. We've both had better. Cold bread. If I'm paying this much for a meal, please give me warm bread. Seems more of a local joint. (Everyone coming in knew each other.). Perhaps it's a local gem for some but when driving all the way from the Pittsburgh airport area, we probably won't go back. Definitely not worth the drive, in my opinion.
We had greens n beans, meatball parmesan, and malfada with meatball and sausage. The food was great as always! Mixed drinks were good, too.
Reservation was for 7:45 but didn't get seated until after 8. It felt like we got passed over because we waited outside to be out of the way and many people that came in after us were seated ahead of us. That was disappointing. I eventually had to go inside and ask for status and both times a host went to check and never came back. I'll probably make sure I choose the early seating next time.
The waiter was exceptional. I've always had great service, here.
We really enjoyed the meal. The food was a creative spin on traditional Italian cuisine. Our party was a little confused about the seating of our party of four. We were shown the to the second floor dining room where we were seated directly next to another table in the corner. The small space required the wait staff to squeeze in between one of our chairs and the table next to us. It was very annoying to my sister in law. Keep in mind, the rest of the second floor dining room was empty. Perhaps another table would have been more comfortable for us. But other than that issue, the food and the atmosphere was lovely.
All 3 of us knew the Tambellini name, but this was our 1st visit to Joseph Tambellini's. Our service was lovely and the chef stopped by to check on our dinners and even offered to bring a few more bites! Famous fried zucchini appetizer was delicious as was the sole special and shrimp scampi and the tiramisu! Generous servings gave us a chance to take enjoy some at home. Will definitely return.
