Joseph Tambellini's became our favorite Pittsburgh restaurant years ago. Quite simply, people go to a restaurant for the food and Tambellini's has been top notch every time we are there - from their everyday menu to their daily specials...excellent fresh ingredients, homemade dishes with that extra special touch. We have probably tried almost every dish on the menu and they never disappoint. We are partial to having Adam as our server, but know that all the employees are friendly, responsive and knowledgeable. We highly recommend this Highland Park gem.
The food was delicious, with such appealing daily specials that it was difficult to decide between our regular favorites and something new. The service was beyond outstanding! As always, most of us took leftovers home because the portions are generous it was all too good to leave behind! This is one place that never disappoints!

Best Italian Restaurant in the city! Fantastic service! The waitress was friendly yet professional. The food is to die for. Exquisitely deliciousness. I lived in Highland Park for approximately 60 years and Joseph Tambellini ‘s is by far the best restaurant to grace the park. Even though it is not near us now, we travel the distance to indulge ourselves with such a delectable feast!

The food was excellent; the service superb! Adam is impeccably professional and makes the experience worth it all. You can tell that Adam loves his job and because of this, the dinner is even more fantastic!

Food and establishment was excellent, but the special menu for Valentine's Day had prices above he normal based on the online menu and was more limited. Had sign on door that limited time at table due to Valentine's Day. This was a turn off. Also, was called in advance to confirm, and told if I had not returned the call, they would have cancelled by reservation. A bit unusual. Did reservation online on Open Table and had a reminder from Open Table of the reservation. Thought that was all I needed to so.
My all time favorite. It's like going to your brothers house for dinner. Joe & Melissa are great down to earth people who will do anything within reason to make your dinner night enjoyable
This place was incredible! I booked a reservation for Valentines Day after reading reviews of different restaurants in Pittsburgh. They had a special menu for Valentines Day, which I was unaware of ahead of time. We ordered the Twin Crab Balls and they were absolutely incredible! Our entrees came with a side of tomato basil pasta and either a salad or soup. Everything we had was fabulous. We will definitely be back!
We started with an assortment of appetizers since we had a party of 6. The sautéed calamari was excellent. We also had the bean, sausage & spinach and the crabmeat appetizer with a very generous portion of lump crab on top. My wife had the veal chop which was the best we have ever tasted. I had the lemon piccata veal which was so tender. The house salad is very nice & I added Gorgonzola cheese. My wife had the buratto salad and that was very tasty. We also had some excellent wine one was a Mercury Head & the other was a Napanook. Chef Joseph even came out at the end of the meal and thanked us for coming. He is definitely a fantastic chef and has spent his life learning from his father & uncle who had famous restaurants. We will definitely go back!

My wife, son and his girl took me to my favorite spot for my birthday and as always, Joe didn't disappoint! The beens n greens were delicious and the arbiatta calamari fantastic as our appetizers. Then two of us had NY Strip steaks and the other two had the speical: Beef medallions with sausage, roasted potatoes and banana peppers in a wine sauce that was out of this world! Then Joe sent out my birthday dessert - and that put the topper on a special night, made even more special by the friendly staff along with Missy and Joe! Can't wait to go back!
We've lived in Pittsburgh now for 6+ years and always heard how great this place was, but we never managed to remember to go there for some reason. What a mistake on our part. This will now be one of our top go to restaurants in Pittsburgh. The place is really nice, very comfortable. The service was excellent. I had the scallops for dinner and my wife had veal romano. It could not have been better. Looking forward to going back as soon as possible.
I would recommend this restaurant because of the food. The sauces are terrific, and that is high praise from me. However, I have a few comments. First, if you are from Pittsburgh and you were familiar with the other Tambellini's "famous" fried zucchini appetizer, this isn't it. That was battered in a beer/egg white batter and flash fried in whole paper-thin strips. This is small squares of thicker zucchini that have been breaded. The are still good and served with a wonderful marinara sauce, just don't get confused. I found the service I received to be "spotty," however. I heard a different waiter list in detail many specials, but mine did not mention them. Good thing I eavesdropped! And certainly, the prices are high, but I knew that as the menu is online, a good thing. My husband's chicken piccata entrée came with a salad, as did mine. I just ordered the salad of the day, and it was included as it should have been. However, when asked what my husband wanted, he said he would like a Caesar salad, and the waiter said nothing. There were notes on the menu that said you could upgrade your pasta side dish, which I did, for $2.00. However, my husband was not informed that by specifying a Caesar-style salad, his included salad would disappear and instead he would be charged $10.00, which is what happened. So, be very proactive at this restaurant or your bill will be much higher than you expected. Also, ask what the specials are and the price - one great-sounding special was actually $54.00. Great place if you are aware!
Very nice atmosphere, great decor. Service was excellent--waiter was more than accommodating. The sponge cake dessert was unreal. Would definitely go back!

Absolutely doesn't get any better than this. Joe's food, combined with a fantastic wine and cocktail selection, is simply the best around. I can't endorse Joseph Tambellini enough. Go, go, go. Consistently the best food in Pittsburgh, with outstanding service, and a cozy, comfortable atmosphere. Love it.
We visited Joseph Tambellini for the first time for my birthday dinner. The ambiance is quaint, Italian decor. The zucchini appetizer was delicious. I enjoyed the veal piccata (very good). My husband ordered the veal chop and requested the chop to be cooked "medium". Unfortunately, when our entrees arrived my husband's veal chop was rare at best in the center. The waitress did take his meal back to have the chop cooked further. However, THREE people checked in on our table to ask how our meal was and were informed of the "veal chop situation". At a restaurant like Joseph Tambellini, you would have thought maybe an appetizer or dessert would have been compensated as a result of the poorly cooked veal chop. When you are spending this amount of money on a meal, you expect it to be almost perfect, which unfortunately, it was not.
This was a retirement party for our dear friend. What an evening! Our server, Jamie (?), was wonderful. The room was busy, but she treated us as if we were the only people in the room.
We were greeting by the manager with a warm greeting as we entered the restaurant that made us feel welcome. The food was incredible, the wine excellent and the atmosphere warm and inviting. It was a very special evening and we cannot wait to return. You have to make this your go to restaurant you will not be disappointed.
Best food and service in the city. It’s not pretentious, just down to earth great food. One thing to consider when talking price, Tambellini gives a creative salad, side dish, and vegetables with entrees. Almost unheard of this day and age. Portions are large, quality is top notch, but most of all it’s Always consistent!!
Very quiet place with excellent ambiance. Food was above average but way overpriced. Service was outstanding.
In summary, the place is a very quiet, very nice place. The food is well prepared, and while it was good, I didn’t think it rose above other comparable restaurants in Pittsburgh. And for the price, there are a dozen places I would prefer. If you decide to try it, especially steer away from the seafood platter, it is way overpriced.
Lovely meal, great food and service. A little old school but everything was well executed. Relaxed and enjoyable meal.
We had the scampi and pasta with meatballs. Both delicious with leftovers for lunch.
Started with sausage stuffed peppers and ended with pecan ball.

The food and service were amazing! We had a quaint table on the side in between the two rooms. We heard people talking, but it wasn’t loud at all. The food was very fresh - definitely farm-to-table. The cocktails were amazing, too! Our waiter, Adam, was very attentive. He refilled our beverages and kept our bread stocked. He gauged our dinner courses perfectly and brought them out at just the right time.
