Joseph Tambellini Ratings and Reviews
This beautiful restaurant is the gem of the Highland Park neighborhood and really, the city. The decor is beautiful, the food perfect, and it is quiet and sophisticated. Our waiter, Adam, was excellent: very personable and knowledgeable. The chef/owner works very hard to produce a varied, interesting, and delicious menu. It was all perfect. We look forward to dining on the outdoor patio. We have been a few times and it is always special.
The food was all really tasty, and I was surprised how much I was able to eat before feeling like I was full. I think this is a quality of good food. The veal chop was ridiculously tender. As a group of 6 eating family style, we all tried at least 5 dishes and none were disappointing.
The service is outstanding. From the moment you enter, you feel welcomed. There was never a moment that I had to seek out a waiter... he was always ready when we were.
The only quirk to the ambiance that we joked about was the music, but even that wasn't so bad.
The food here is spectacular! Great Italian food, and I travel every week sampling from restaurants around the country. The atmosphere is cozy and the service is quite good--attentive, but very relaxed. We would dine here every week if it was in our neighborhood!
This is the best Italian food in Pittsburgh. Always start with the calamari arrabiata, but I prefer switching from sautéed to fried calamari. The pasta dishes are all excellent, and the chicken parmesan is delicious. I like the atmosphere as well, it being a smaller restaurant with a home feel. Keep in mind there are two floors of seating, so you may have to walk upstairs to your table, and the ladies restroom is on the second floor.
Beautiful setting -- we were seated upstairs and it was cozy but we had plenty of room, great value -- the entrees all came with soup or salad plus pasta instead of everything a la carte which is the trend at a lot of restaurants now, the drink specials and most wines by the glass were $10 -- delicious meal.
My wife & I went there for our anniversary and it was wonderful. We began with shared calimari and two ceacser salads. For our entrees my wife had the eggplant parmigiana and I had the veal chop. Both were excellent.
As good as the food was the service was equally as good. Adam was our server and was both knowledgeable and very attentive. This was our 2nd dinner there this year and I can honestly say we’ve never had better service anywhere else.
I’d recommend it for anyone who loves traditional food served with terrific service.
I was so excited to be finally dining here after hearing rave reviews from friends. I was a bit disappointed. I loved the space, and did not feel crowded. Our waiter was very attentive, but I felt the meal was rushed. My entree was tasty and hot when it arrived, but two members in our party of four had lukewarm entrees, one of whom sent it back to reheat. My burrata salad was outstanding; the best part of my meal. I am generally easy to please when dining out and rarely complain. My expectations were possibly too high based on all of the hype from past diners. I most likely will not return.
If I had to pick only one food to eat for the rest of my life it would be Joe Tambellini's marinara sauce. By far the best that I have ever had. the rest of the food is superb as well. The our of us loved everything that we had.
my only two complaints are that someone in my party is a Penn State fan so i had to hear about their sports programs all evening;)
And my bigger complaint is that we had the second seating, and there is very little area to wait in while they are preparing the tables.
Next time we go we will go for the first seating.
Joseph Tambellini's provides a friendly environment from the moment you walk in the door and are warmly greeted and welcomed. The wait staff is always on top of things, attentive but not intrusive. Joseph Tambellini’s is a restaurant that never disappoints. Our meals are delicious every single time! We enjoy dining here again and again!
We always enjoy eating at Joe Tambellini's. Missy and Rick were so gracious and welcoming when we arrived and we had a great table at the front banquette. We had veal dinners -Picatta and Marsala, which were prepared perfectly. We love that Joe still serves a salad and a side of pasta with his dinners. Joseph Tambellini's ratings as one of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh is well-dersreved.
The food was fantastic, we sat upstairs in a cute little dining area, and it was perfect for my parents' 30th wedding anniversary. The waitress was very friendly and even wished them a happy Anniversary. My whole family loved this dinner and will definitely be coming back ❤️
My wife and I live in Texas and go to Pittsburgh about once a year. We wouldn’t think about a visit to the ‘Burgh without a meal at Joseph Tambellini’s. Joseph and Melissa know what a neighborhood real Italian restaurant should be and they execute it to perfection. It’s so good that some people go just to experience one of Joseph’s special meatballs. Unbelievable. We love Joseph Tambellini’s and recommend it highly.
It was a Tuesday evening and not too busy. We were seated in the bar area which isn’t as nice as the other room but it worked out fine. The food was as good as I remembered from my previous visit. I had one of the salmon specials and it was wonderful. My friends were also pleased with their veal and chicken selections. It’s a bit pricey but nice for a special occasion.
Our server was so attentive, we could tell he was busting his butt to wait all of his tables, but he did this without leaving any tables out. As for the food, amazing!! Everything was amazing. From the bread, to the side salad, to our meals, and to the creme brûlée for dessert. Overall 10/10
I always look forward to going to Joseph Tambellini's, I love the building, atmosphere, and especially Joe's cooking. It very much reminds me of my own Italian brand of cooking; homemade pasta, great sauce selections, superb steaks, great salads and all served in an authentic Italian style, simple with great ingredients, perfecto! Melissa and Joe are approachable in a "your my guest in my home", kind-of-way!
Cozy neighborhood gem...great food and very attentive service...excellent and reasonable wine list. A bit pricey -- fried calamari app was small for price, parm shavings for salad and toppings for veal chop were extra upsell, annoying when you're paying $52 for the chop. But all forgiven since everything was so yummy.
