Joseph Ambler Inn Ratings and Reviews
The menu and food is consistently wonderful. We started with a caesar salad, then NY Strip Steak and Swordfish with nice side dishes and completed it with creme brulee and warm bread pudding. The house specialty drinks were great, but the other mixed drinks left a little to be desired. We have never had a meal that we didn't enjoy here, even at busier times (Valentines day, etc). I am going to go back and check out the Thursday night seafood night - sounds interesting
Excellent, attentive service. Many different food options from seafood to pasta and steak. We had small room to ourselves which made the occasion even more special. Menu a little pricey so more a special occasion night out but good sized portions. No one went home hungry.
New Years Eve and fixed price menu. We arrived for an early dinner 5:30 and requested a quiet table. They placed us in one of the smaller rooms with beautiful china plates. Service was excellent. Our server Colleen was able to explain various items on the menu and make suggestions. Four courses and very good food with nice portion sizes. Our only flaw to our anniversary/new years eve dinner was a couple who showed up halfway through and were seated in this small room. Everyone else was talking in muted voices and we could not hear conversations. This couple was loud and by the time we left we realized how rude they were. They talked very loud and were showing each other loud things on their cell phone. In addition, they kept wanting changes in the menu and didn't want to order all the first three courses at once. Each time the serve staff would leave the room they made some comment. I felt bad for the servers trying to do their best. Otherwise an excellent dinner.
Very disappointed. We've been here several times before and this time was terrible. From when we arrived we did not feel welcome or attended to by any of the staff from hostess who hesitated to seat us " because her feet hurt," to inattentive busboy and waitress. We had 8 pm reservation and it was not busy at all. Yet, we waited a ridiculous amount of time for our waitress then another 20 minutes for bread that we had to ask for it twice. Due to food allergies we requested white bread and were told they didn't have any.Never got the lemon requested with our water. 3 or 4 busboys were standing together talking, waitress was rarely seen. We were celebrating the New Year early and we disappointed with our whole dining experience. We don't plan a return trip.
Overall the experience was good but not great. We were disappointed with our baked brie (came out cold), salad (was 95% arugula), my husband's rabbit was tough, my fish was good but not great. The best part was the bread pudding, which was delicious, but the rest of the food was forgettable or regrettable. This is unfortunate because it's one of the few higher end restaurants left in the area.
We dined at Joseph Ambler Inn to celebrate our anniversary. It did not disappoint us. We enjoyed a leisurely meal of good food with attentive but not intrusive service at a time of day when the restaurant was not too busy. The noise level was low and we were able to converse in normal tones and hear each other. Altogether a lovely way to celebrate together. Thank you Joseph Ambler Inn.
I'm torn for this review. I dine at the Jos Ambler a few times a year and always enjoy it: great service, food and ambiance. Last Sat. was the exception to the rule and it was the first time my sisters and brothers-in-law experienced Jos Ambler. I'll give them another chance; my family may not.
It was mom's 89th and we looked forward to lunch in the dining room. When I made the reservations there was no mention that the only seating was in the modern pub . . . bummer, but not a show-stopper. We arranged to have flowers on the table . . . nope, no flowers.
It just went downhill from there. Glasses went unfilled--water, wine, soda or tea--all empty. My sis ordered filet rare, I ordered medium. Apparently she received mine (overdone) and I received hers. When I pointed this out to the server she giggled and said "sorry."
When we ordered coffee, one of the pots was defective--it leaked all over the tray. She still served it to me, it leaked all over the table (it could have leaked on me if I had not been more observant). When I suggested they retire that coffee pot she again giggled and said "sorry."
No servers ever checked back to see how the meat/fish were cooked.
We felt ignored and, for the first time in a long time, tipped less than 20%.
We came for a last lunch. We’re seated in a nice quiet small room but it was too cool for comfort .
The lobster roll was much improved over last one but still had a long way to go to equal the lobster rolls of Maine. Soup could have been hotter.
We will try Thursday seafood especially for the dollar a shuck oysters.
On my wife’s birthday we thought we would try something special. Something besides your ordinary steak house or fine dining restaurant. It had been many many years since we had been to the Joseph Ambler Inn so we figured let’s try. It turned out to be very special. The atmosphere was country farm with a warmth that you rarely find today. Food was delicious and service was excellent. The Xmas lights and decorations were a bonus We will be back.
We have been to JAI several times and always pleased with everything. This time we asked our Sister and Brother-in-Law to dine and stay over with us to celebrate our anniversary. The inn is decorated for Christmas and out on the lawn is trimmed with cut out carolers, just lovely.
The food was excellent. Everyone enjoyed the meal. I had the Rib steak, cooked just a ordered. My sister had the Champagne chicken.
From the moment we arrived we were greeted with very friendly people. Our 7:00 Table was ready on time, and our “hostess” seated us and took our drink order. The drinks were exactly as ordered.
Our server was friendly and knowledgeable.
The meal was excellent including dessert.
There were lots of people partying, but the noise level was fine and not challenging.
Will def return.
We took a friend for lunch and the ambience is lovely. The service was attentive in the beginning but the food was lackluster. The bread was very good. I chose the lobster roll and found it very small. The fries that came with it were literally cold. The cucumber salad was microscopic.
My two partners had salads with salmon and I heard no complaint. When it came to dessert, we ordered from the menu only to find what we ordered was not available. A little disappointing for a birthday luncheon.
We had going to JAI for dinner in July and had a nice evening so we will probably give it another try sometime in the future.
I was at JAI earlier this week with 2 friends...one friend was over an hour late (due to traffic from NJ) - we had a wonderful waitress who checked in with us periodically and ensured our comfort as we waited for our friend... Food was excellent as was the service and atmosphere...we will return
Quiet, relaxing atmosphere. Lunch menu was varied with many different type choices. Tomato crab soup excellent. We all had the crab & asparagus with melted cheese omelet. It came with a large delicious salad.
Service, provided by our waiter Joseph was perfect. Food was all the right temperatures. Joseph was attentive but discreet.
We would definitely return & request Joseph to be our waiter.
This is our go-to restaurant for a get-together with friends a few times every year. We have never been disappointed! The servers are wonderfully attentive (but not too attentive) and you never feel rushed. Sometimes I think this is the only restaurant in the Bucks-Mont area where you can actually have a conversation unhampered by a lot of chatter/noise. Best of all...the food is terrific!
This restaurant is not good for handicap and is difficult for almost anyone to enter since the exterior lighting is poor (told the hostess and she said they were told that before but have no plans to change) path leading to door is brick and uneven - no place to let someone off close to entrance. Food was very good but not worth taking a chance going with any one who needs any kind of assistance.
Our lunch at Joseph Ambler Inn was all that we expected. We ordered the three course prexe fix menu. The shrimp cocktail were huge and very good, lots of choices for the entree and dessert had some very nice choices. They offered filet mignon the day we were there sometimes it is the New York strip steak, but the whole experience was so worth it. Of course we will come back
Well, I'm not really sure what to say here. Not sure what was worse-- the atrociously slow service, the Ok food or the mice running underfoot in the private room. After having a 'meh' experience several years ago we decided to pop in last night (Monday) for my wife's 48th birthday. We had a group of 8--my wife's family. All appeared to be going well: they had given us the back private room, there was LITERALLY no one in the restaurant so hopes were high for good service but that was not to be the case. We could barely get our waitress's attention (at the end of the meal, left the room to get the hostess to try and find her and she replied after I waited 5 minutes, "Yeah, I don't know where she is..." I decided to go to the bar to get a drink while I waited and he was absent too. It's as if the whole staff was off somewhere watching Monday Night Football.
While we waited the nearly hour for our food to arrive (again, there was NO ONE in the place) our now extremely hungry child screamed cause a mouse was in the room with us and running around. This led to my brother-in-law chasing it out to the main dining room. Very appetizing.
The food was OK (unfortunately my wife, a bit of a branzino aficionado, said it was some of the worst she's had), but not worthy of the wait and although I love the atmosphere, I'm pretty sure that this will be the very last time we ever go there. I never write Yelp reviews because I get that places can have off moments, but for nearly a $500 bill, I'm down right angry AND feel it was not the gift I wanted my wife to have on her birthday.
We were there on Friday night when it is bring your own wine. They also have three course specials but my husband and I ordered just the entree part of the three-course special. They were both delicious--crab stuffed sole and prime rib. We are never disappointed at Joseph Ambler. The ambiance is great and the buildings are on such beautiful grounds. We even saw the end of an outside wedding taking plce there. Very romantic setting.
I loved here. My husband and I had a great time. The only thing I would add is some vegetarian options on the menu that are equivalent to the meat entrees, not just stir fry or pasta primavera.
Other than that, my favorite thing about it was the service. Everyone was attentive and friendly.
