Joseph Ambler Inn Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant is not good for handicap and is difficult for almost anyone to enter since the exterior lighting is poor (told the hostess and she said they were told that before but have no plans to change) path leading to door is brick and uneven - no place to let someone off close to entrance. Food was very good but not worth taking a chance going with any one who needs any kind of assistance.
Our lunch at Joseph Ambler Inn was all that we expected. We ordered the three course prexe fix menu. The shrimp cocktail were huge and very good, lots of choices for the entree and dessert had some very nice choices. They offered filet mignon the day we were there sometimes it is the New York strip steak, but the whole experience was so worth it. Of course we will come back
Well, I'm not really sure what to say here. Not sure what was worse-- the atrociously slow service, the Ok food or the mice running underfoot in the private room. After having a 'meh' experience several years ago we decided to pop in last night (Monday) for my wife's 48th birthday. We had a group of 8--my wife's family. All appeared to be going well: they had given us the back private room, there was LITERALLY no one in the restaurant so hopes were high for good service but that was not to be the case. We could barely get our waitress's attention (at the end of the meal, left the room to get the hostess to try and find her and she replied after I waited 5 minutes, "Yeah, I don't know where she is..." I decided to go to the bar to get a drink while I waited and he was absent too. It's as if the whole staff was off somewhere watching Monday Night Football.
While we waited the nearly hour for our food to arrive (again, there was NO ONE in the place) our now extremely hungry child screamed cause a mouse was in the room with us and running around. This led to my brother-in-law chasing it out to the main dining room. Very appetizing.
The food was OK (unfortunately my wife, a bit of a branzino aficionado, said it was some of the worst she's had), but not worthy of the wait and although I love the atmosphere, I'm pretty sure that this will be the very last time we ever go there. I never write Yelp reviews because I get that places can have off moments, but for nearly a $500 bill, I'm down right angry AND feel it was not the gift I wanted my wife to have on her birthday.
We were there on Friday night when it is bring your own wine. They also have three course specials but my husband and I ordered just the entree part of the three-course special. They were both delicious--crab stuffed sole and prime rib. We are never disappointed at Joseph Ambler. The ambiance is great and the buildings are on such beautiful grounds. We even saw the end of an outside wedding taking plce there. Very romantic setting.
I loved here. My husband and I had a great time. The only thing I would add is some vegetarian options on the menu that are equivalent to the meat entrees, not just stir fry or pasta primavera.
Other than that, my favorite thing about it was the service. Everyone was attentive and friendly.
We were very disappointed this visit. We have been to this restaurant in the past and enjoyed it but this time, the food was terrible. The grounds are beautiful, the staff is fantastic, very friendly and accommodating. But the food was poor to average. My husband had a very tough steak and potatoes, my fish was flavorless and the quinoa a bit undercooked, just very disappointing. For the price you pay (entrees ranged from $20-40), we will be visiting other restaurants in the area.
Beautiful place, very nice and attentive waitstaff, but a boring menu and weak food execution make the experience not up to the standards expected for the pricing. Crab bisque was smothered in a chopped unknowngreen that the waitress couldn't identify for us. She should know the food she serves. My veal scallopine was not seasoned at all, deep fried hard. The foie gras was tasty, But poorly pressented. The creme brûlée was also run of the road. Nothing exceptional there either.
The service was subpar. We could have went anywhere to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary but we chose here. The service was not welcoming or friendly. I don't mind paying money for good food and experience but here I felt that we didn't get the service that was expected at a restaurant like this. The food wad decent but not for the price they charge.
Ended up here by a happy accident. My wife and I wanted to splurge as we were celebrating our 24th anniversary. We had a gift card to another inn but I confused the names and reserved here by mistake. Very glad I did. Food was very good, especially the vanilla bean creme brulee we split for dessert. It was quiet enough we could actually converse and the service was pretty good. A couple of minor gripes - an overly long wait to get the check and lemon with my iced tea after I explicitly asked for none. Portion sizes were not overly large but quite adequate when paired with a salad.
Had a wonderful meal here with my boyfriend for a Sunday night dinner on Labor Day weekend. Atmosphere was quiet, we sat outside and the setting was nice and relaxing. Wasn't too crowded I guess because we ate early and it was a holiday weekend. He had the veal scalloping and I had the small filet. Food was prepared and presented very nicely. Waitstaff was very attentive and answered our questions about the menu, etc. Will def go again.
We had a lovely meal on a Friday evening . We were fortunate that the night was pleasant enough that we could eat outdoors . Be advised, however, a large party was waiting for their table and went out on the grass to smoke...
My husband opted for 2 appetizers,; lamb chops and clams.. Both were yummy. I had the bruschetta , which was on the special menu ( price not listed) and the organic chicken dinner.
My bruschetta was good, but not worth the price. The chicken was very well cooked and came with a mushroom risotto .
Of course, the drinks 2 glasses of wine each, greatly added to the check. I noticed that on Friday and Saturday evenings you can bring your own wine. Do it!!
I have been to Joseph's Ambler Inn many times for lunches and dinners. My friend and I have the tradition of celebrating our birthdays together, her August birthday and my April birthday. I also had my daughter's birthday dinner here 2 years ago in July with outdoor dining, kid friendly for my two young grandchildren. My husband and I have celebrated our anniversary at Joseph's. This is one of my favorite restaurants.
We enjoyed our dinner on their great outdoor patio. The indoor portion of the restaurant was a little less enjoyable, as it seemed a little more formal and stuffy. Our server was great. I'm sorry I can't remember her name to give her the credit. The food was very good, but a little on the expensive side. We would probably only dine here for special occasions. The inn was a beautiful location to celebrate our anniversary.
I enjoyed dinner there with my husband. It was our 1st year wedding anniversary. We were married at Jos Ambler Inn on 07/24/2016 and I was so happy with everything. I am so happy that we had dinner there. We also received free dessert and the chef wrote a special note on our plates, Happy Anniversary! That was very thoughtful. I would highly recommend the Jos Ambler Inn to my friends and family. Thank you. Keep up the great service!! Nancy Kelsey
We were celebrating a recent engagement, and the Joseph Ambler Inn fulfilled our expectations, with delicious food, attentive service, and a pleasant atmosphere. On Friday and Saturday evenings, they have BYOB, with no corkage fee, which can save a lot of money. The grounds of the inn were really attractive, too, so we walked around a little after dinner. I was surprised that many of the patrons the night we were there were elderly, but that may just have been that particular evening. I think it's a lovely place for younger patrons as well.
The ambiance was country and quaint. The food was tasty for the most part. My steak was done perfectly but the accompanying vegetables were bland and tasteless.
The wait staff was very robotic and not engaging. Cleared out dishes separately so my husband was still eating and they cleared away my plate so it made me uncomfortable to sit there with nothing in front of me.
Overall just an okay dining experience.
Based on Open Table comments we requested seating on the terrace and were very pleased. However, the in-door area also looked very appealing. Overall, our experience with the food quality, service and atmosphere was such that we would return. However, we feel the service was not as good as the food quality and atmosphere.
