Joselito's Ratings and Reviews
We went to Joselito's as prelude to Decanso Gardens and to celebrate our friends birthday. We were happy we had reservations as there was a number of people waiting to be seated. Food and service was very good. I am sure we will return to this wonderful restaurant.
We went to joselitoes for Father's Day brunch. There were 7 of us. They gave us a very awkward table with giant benches with wheels that didn't work with a split in a table that was not easy to negotiate. And half our party was locked into a banquet an so far away on a too long table.! To add to the joy the meal took over an hour to arrive without xplanation. When we asked we just got a shrug and a chuckle. Our waiter was nowhere to be found. The busboy did keep the champagne flowing which was nice We had two small children in our party who were pushed to the limit of patience by the time our food arrived. We were told there was a huge takeout order. That they fulfilled before ours. Who does that??! Well all in all it was a huge disappointment for our first time there. Food was ok. Who cares anymore after waiting over an hour?
A good meal. I got a call from the restaurant soon after I made the reservation because of a note I left on my form. Staff was very polite and helpful. Downtown Montrose is an active area, lots of families walking dogs and younger people out and about. A good setting for an evening meal outside. Drinks were timely, dinner and little slow but it was good.
Our favorite Mexican restaurant over many years in the Montrose-La Canada-La Crescenta area, family owned and run, with a cheerful mexican staff and good food and standard margaritas. Family and kid friendly. Upstairs is the bar with a couple sports screens. No screens downstairs, just a cute "la palapa" decor. Try the enchiladas Lito, served with strips of avocado on top.
We enjoy Joselito's very much, and have spent the past 5 years enjoying the Montrose Halloween fun seated on their patio. Although I used Open Table last year for our reservation with no problem, this year was different. I booked our reservation on Open Table about a month early, and put a note in that I was interested in patio seating. About a week before Halloween I received an email saying they were trying to reach me. When I called I was told they could not guarantee patio seating. I mentioned I had included a note, and made the res. a month earlier. I was told, they don't always see the notes, and a few people had made their res. 2 mo before. They said they could seat us inside, which was not what we were interested in. I kept the res. and we arrived before our time and checked in. We were told they could seat us immediately...upstairs! No thank you. They did work with us, and about 40 min. later we were able to get a table on the patio. They actually put two tables together for us, which was very nice, and we were most appreciative. Although I love the idea of being able to make a res. on my phone, from now on if it is for something special I will phone the restaurant directly. Next year I will book directly with Joselito's. If they are not going to read the notes where you indicate something special, what's the point?
The great thing is that we could get a party of 6 in on a Saturday evening. The hostess was friendly and accomodating when we needed to move times around. We were seated in a quasi-booth that felt a bit like the high back Haunted Mansion ride seats. Very private, but so claustrophobic. This is the reason for the 2 stars for ambiance. Every time the wait staff showed up we were surprised as we couldn't see anyone coming- (visualize a high cubicle. ) We had a tight time deadline and advised the waiter of such. I believe he tried to keep things moving but we ended up having to leave before everyone was finished due to time compression. We allowed a an hour and fifteen minutes but this was insufficient on a Saturday. The food was OK; typical Los Angeles Mexican food. This would not be a place I would drive out of my way for, but portions were hearty and preparations predictable. Location is fine and parking was available at the bank down the street. Prices were reasonable.
